We had a thread about foundation a couple of months ago and a few peas recommended some foundations that I really wanted to try. I am sure I bookmarked the thread, but I can not find it anywhere! I have not been successful in a "search" on the new board. So, can anyone recommend a foundation that is light and doesn't settle into fine lines. Whenever I try a new foundation, I notice lines that I didn't know I had!  So I feel like I waste so much money on foundation. I would like to try Sephora after Christmas (I asked for a gift card), but for now, I would like to try a drugstore product. I do have freckles that I would like to conceal a bit as well. I believe someone recommended L'Oreal Infallible, and I saw it recommended on the Today show this week. My other issue when I pick out foundation is trying to pick the right color! As you can see, I am clueless about make-up! |

I am 44. My favorite "going out" foundation is Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. For everyday, I wear Jentry Kelley tinted primer. I think the key to not settling into lines is wearing a primer.

Do you have Bourjoir brand there? I have a light, liquid illuminating foundation which I sometimes use, although its not something I use daily because....well, I just don't feel like I need it every day:grin:

I've just started the IT CC cream.....I like it but feel it looks just a bit too heavy, so I tend to wear it more for "going out" and stick to my cheap Walgreens brands otherwise! Like IT too, I haven't found it to be heavy, but do use very little. I also have one from Tarte that I like a lot. |

I mostly wear Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer but love the Laura Mercier Candleglow for a little bit more coverage.
It's lovely. I think it blurs the fine lines because it's light and almost luminous.

I recently picked up a tube myself just to try. It's more my "everyday" foundation, for a quick run to the store or whatever. I like a heavier coverage so I prefer Revlon Colorstay Whipped if I'm sing a full face, for work or social events. It's my favorite out of anything I've tried, high end or drugstore. Flawless coverage, no settling into lines, not drying or aging. I love it. |

I like a heavier coverage so I prefer Revlon Colorstay Whipped if I'm sing a full face, for work or social events. It's my favorite out of anything I've tried, high end or drugstore. Flawless coverage, no settling into lines, not drying or aging. I love it. I am also a Colorstay fan. |

I don't wear full face makeup often, and I don't like or need anything that provides really heavy coverage. I tried a couple of different BB creams that ended up feeling too heavy for me. Until the angel at Sephora recommended Smashbox's BB Water. It's very lightweight and provides perfect coverage for me. The bottle sucks - it's glass and I've heard of a few people breaking them, but that's about the only negative I see. You can usually get a few samples at Sephora if you're not sure. Tell the salesperson what you're looking for and ask for a few samples. I was never really into makeup as a teen, but now, as I stare my 40th birthday in the face, I love it. I guess I need more help now  |

Are you using primer first? If not, try that. I use Makeup forever smoothing primer. My favorite foundation for the last decade has been MAC, but the last couple bottles, somethings changed (not sure if they made it new and improved or if it's skin tone is changing since I'm getting older. Anyways, I stated seeing a line around the edge and the foundation looks a shade or two too dark. I was using the lightest shade for that formula. While I still love, love, love the quality, the coloring is so off. I tried a couple of the other MAC foundations, and liked them but didn't love them. One was too matte, one was too sheer. I went in Sephora one day, and the clerk asked if I'd like a sample of the new Urban Decay foundation. So, I got a sample of the lightest color. I used it twice and like it so much, went back and bought a bottle. It is more matte, so I use that first, then put a sheer layer over it of the sheer MAC foundation. So, to answer your question: I am an almost daily make up wearer, don't leave home without it. I'm High maintenance! I like a heavy coverage. Creamy and smooth. Currently this is how I achieve that. (If you don't like a heavy coverage, then this is not for you). I use Makeup Forever smoothing primer, then Urban Decay All Nighter 05, then MAC Studio Water Weight NW13. |

I use the It CC cream and love it. I love the IT CC cream too. I'm used to powder foundations, so I use the CC Cream for more of a concealer or to even out my skin in certain areas and use the Celebration powder foundation for my whole face. Very light but great coverage! I just started using IT products in the last 60 days - love them! ETA: you can go to Ulta if you have one nearby and they will apply either the CC or the celebration powder foundation on you. That is what my SIL did to try it out before buying. |

I am 51 1/2, have lots of freckles, and rosacea. Lucy Minerals with primer underneath is all that works for me. Works amazing. My avatar is only a month or two old with no touchup. Rimmel Clean Finish , 100% poreless. The only foundation I use now. It's perfect for skin with fine lines and such. I have tried all sorts all price ranges and years ago I stumbled upon this foundation and never looked back. Most of my other makeup is from sephora but I just can't beat the cheapie drug store Rimmel. I have tried a couple in their line and they are all pretty good but a true flawless pourless matte finish comes from the Clean Finish foundation.  |

Well, it isn't a drug store product, but I've never had a foundation I love as much as this one. Dior Airflash. It looks airbrushed, covers my freckles, lasts through a work out, and lasts all day.

I used to use Lancôme until they discontinued it. Hate that when you find something that works and they quit making it. I tried another Lancôme foundation but it just made my face break out.
A very nice gal at Sephora recommended Dior Star and it has worked pretty good for me.

DD also wears the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation for weekends/going out. For daytime, she now uses the L'Oreal True Match. Several blogs have touted it as being the closest match to the Armani and it really is close. The other duplicate she found is the Maybelline Touch Lumi Concealer to replace the YSL Touche Eclai. I switched to the Armani Luminous Silk about a year ago. Prior to that I wore one by Laura Mercier. However, they changed the coverage as well as the color so I made the switch. The Armani has the best coverage I've found with the most natural look. The best thing is that it can be layered with looking cakey which enables me to add just a bit more to the areas that need more coverage. It also lasts all day, even through workouts and the Houston heat/humidity. Save |

I alternate between Bare Minerals and Estee Lauder double wear. The Estee Lauder lasts ALL DAY. If you get drops on your sink, it's very difficult to wash off - I am going to say it's nearly waterproof.

Exclusively wearing MAC makeup for over two decades, until forgetting my makeup pouch when vacationing across the country last year, I discovered L'Oreal Infallible ProMatte is a dupe for MAC Studio Sculpt. It is the same gel-based consistency, but offers better coverage, color match, & longevity for me.
Although I have combo skin & rosacea, the Infallible ProMatte doesn't cling to the dry patches, settle into fine lines, disappear, or need to be touched up all day! It's lightweight, evens out my skintone, looks natural, & comes in a no-mess tube. Also, I like that it can be purchased at Target & does not require a trip to the mall.
HTH, & you find a foundation that works well for you.
ETA: The most challenging aspect of wearing any drugstore foundation is finding the right color. For reference, I'm pale with cool undertones & wear L'Oreal Infallible ProMatte 102 Shell.

Do you have dry, combination or oily skin?
Do you like a more matte finish or dewy finish?
Do you use a primer?
Do you want sheer, medium or fuller coverage?
How old are you, and do you have deep wrinkles? Fine lines? Large pores?
Foundations are really about finding what works best for your skin. I like a very matte finish because I have such oily skin, so my favorite foundations wouldn't work for you if you have very dry skin. I don't like CC creams bc they basically melt off within 1-2 hours on me unless I cake on powder--which I hate. I also use an oil free primer everyday. I find that drugstore foundations don't work for me either. I like to get samples of makeup and wear them before I commit. I like the one on one attention of trying on foundation at Sephora or Ulta or one of the many makeup counters at the mall.
For my oily, large pores I like Makeup Forever Matte, MAC Pro Long Wear, Diorskin Forever, and Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting (not for summer though!), I also like Estee Lauder Double Wear and DW Light, and Kat Von D Lock It.
I've tried many others, too many to list, but these are my go to for long wearing everyday and nights out.

Wow, what a great response! I am going to take these ideas to Ulta and see if they can help me choose one and pick a color. I appreciate all the suggestions! The peas are great! Do you put on primer first, let it "set" for a couple minutes, then put on foundation/CC cream? Or mix primer with foundation? Want to make sure I do it the right way! |
