It's already December 1st? Time flies when you're waiting for Santa. Last night I was going to make tacos, but dh wanted take-out Chinese. So, I think tonight will be taco night. I don't know if I have the energy to bake cookies, but if I do I'll try a new recipe that might go into the holiday boxes I make for friends and neighbors. Not sure which flavor or I'd post it.
What's on your menu?
Have a happy Thursday.

We are having crock pot beef stroganoff tonight. We are having a cooling spell right now and it just sounds warm, cozy and yummy for tonight.

I was thinking pork chops, but I may be changing my mind to one of Aldi's fresh bake pizzas. That seems easier. LOL!

I went with pizza last night, so tonight is the last of the leftovers! I have a small schnitzel and some spätzle in the fridge, and I'll do some mixed vegetables to go with.

I made spaghetti with a cheese sauce, bacon and a green salad. Raspberries and cream for dessert. And now I'm baking chocolate chip cookies with DD.

Pork chops for us. I requested baked potatoes as well. I'm sure he'll cook a veggie too!

I'm not sure yet. I do know I'm going to Raley's to buy a tri-tip for the weekend as they are on sale for $4.99 a lb. Maybe I'll make some soup to eat and leftovers to freeze. There is nothing betting on a cold winter day than being able to pull already-made soup out of the freezer!

I'm making chicken florentine pasta and taking some extra to my friend who has breast cancer. She finished up her chemo at the end of October but is undergoing radiation every week day until January. I take a meal to her and her husband every couple of weeks to give them a break from cooking.
I've also got some crusty bread baking right now in my cast iron Dutch oven. It's so easy and good!

Tonight we are having tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. I still haven't gone to the grocery store, not sure how long I can go without something different from the store. LOL

CarefreeSadie - best meal ever. Enjoy! We still have leftover delicious soup - kale, quinoa, chicken, veggies, some Penzey's herb mix, made from turkey bone stock. Really good. We had it with cornbread last night and tonight, with sourdough. I need to get salad fixings because of a deep hankering for salad, for some reason. I also made Christmas cookies, but they are for my charity quilt group tomorrow morning. Well, dh will steal a few. Thanks for the thread.

Change of plans ~ not that I really HAD a plan to begin with. Bought ribs for tonight, tri-tip for tomorrow, clam chowder for DH and me on Saturday as DS will be at D&D and on Sunday, I'm going to teach DS how to make homemade chicken noodle soup.

If I had any pride, I'd probably be embarrassed to admit this (again), but we are having leftovers again. I picked up an extra tutoring session this evening which leaves no time for a proper meal.

DD10 is crazy about this rice dish made with green enchilada sauce. I don't care for it, but I make it for her, and have a salad.
Our oven has been out of commission for 4 weeks. The digital buttons to control the oven temp stopped working, except the 4. It took this whole time to get someone out to look at it, figure out it will cost $700 to fix (yes, $700!) and then decide we won't spend that and order a new oven and have it delivered. It came this morning, it is bright, shiny and lovely with a griddle on the stove. Anyway, I promised DD she would get her rice dish tonight.
So that's what she is having and I'll have a sald.

Smoked turkey tetrazzini. Or some close approximation thereof.

Yay Julie W on the new stove!! $700 bucks to fix an oven seems like an awful lot and I would have bought a new one too!!
I am planning on making Chicken soup tonight (maybe with dumplings) unless dh has a better idea. We are empty nesting it for the next couple of days.
I looked at the Kerry Irish butter at the store today. $5.39 for 1/2 pound! I was going to buy it to make some yummy shortbread cookies but, not at that price.

ugh! It's half that price here, at Costco or Trader Joe's. Still expensive, but I buy it for eating, not baking. We are headed out to Black Angus for a birthday dinner for my new daughter-in-law's mom. Last night the 7yo wanted burgers, so I guess tomorrow I'll try to get spaghetti made with the rest of the ground beef plus some Italian sausage I cooked already. Or else I'll shove all that meat in the freezer and just eat potato chips all weekend. LOL

Ok, remember when I had you all cross your fingers the other day?
Well it worked.
DS got his stuff together and finally finished his paper work, had his scoutmaster conference Monday, met with the committee chair for the final signature Tuesday, and yesterday turned in his application for his eagle rank. Today he got his verification and we went to pick his packet back up. ( by the skin of his teeth with the deadline btw, only 2 days to spare if there had been something he missed )
So since DH isn't home tonight I just stopped wherever DS wanted to on the way home, sort of a celebration. Especially since he had band at 6:30 to get to.

@nicksmom ---as much as I LOVE to bake and cook, I'm shocked that I've never tried to make homeade bread. I'd appreciate it if you could share your recipe lucyg--ooooh, potato chips all weekend sounds GREAT! Don't forget your fave dip ! (mine is green onion---it's SO good, so I DO NOT buy it anymore!) LOL! Hubbs finished the lasagne --I think this was his fourth (?) night in a row!? I had a rueben sandwich and cole slaw for the second night in a row. I'm looking forward to simmering some type of homeade soup for the lovely, extra COLD** and frosty weekend ahead ; I've seen SO MANY good recipes here for soup, it's hard to decide which one to make! **can I just say how much I LOVE winter !?!??! I feel bad for people who hate it, and i totalllly understand, and driving on ICE is horrible & terrifying, but when I worked, I just left the house about THREE HOURS before I had to be there, and drove verrrrrry slowly !!! Cold weather (and SNOW!!! ) not only make me happy, it gives me SO much ENERGY!!! In the heat of summer, all I want to do is hibernate inside!! (unless I'm swimming!!---otherwise----I HATE the heat !!!)

Nicksmom ---as much as I LOVE to bake and cook, I'm shocked that I've never tried to make homeade bread. I'd appreciate it if you could share your recipe This is so easy, it's almost embarrassing. But you do have to remember to start it the night before so the dough can do its thing. Crusty Bread in a Cast Iron Pot 3 cups flour 1 3/4 teas salt 1/2 teas yeast 1 1/2 cups warm water Mix the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Add the warm water and stir until there are no dry spots. It will look like a shaggy mess. Loosely cover and let sit on the counter for 8-24 hours. The dough will puff up and be very sticky. When you're ready to bake, preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Place your cast iron pot (lid included) in the oven and allow to heat for 30 minutes. While the oven and pot are heating, sprinkle flour over the dough and shape into a loaf. Place it on a greased cookie sheet or parchment paper sprinkled with flour. After the pot is heated, carefully remove from the oven. Drop the dough into the pot. If it gets misshapen, it's okay. It will just make it look more rustic. Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the lid and put back in the oven for 5-10 minutes until browned. Place on a cooling rack and allow to cool for at least 30 minutes before cutting.

I haven't made bread in years. ETA is that the quick yeast you're using? And you aren't greasing the cast iron pot?

I buy a big ol' block of Fleischmann's Instant yeast at Sam's and use that for all my breads. My pot is seasoned well, and since it's really hot when the dough goes in, I don't have any problems with the bread sticking. But you could wipe some veg oil in the pot before you heat it.
