I went to Joanns today with a return and a problem with my receipt from Black Friday. I realized when I pulled the receipt for the return that I never got the 25% off Black Friday coupon credit. When I went to checkout the clerk told me she could not credit the missing coupon since it clearly states that it is not valid on "all papercrafting machines, cartridges, dies, printers and accessories" and what I purchased was an "accessory" The 3 items were on sale, not a clearance item or a doorbuster, and according to the coupon valid, except for the 'exception' the clerk insisted was the 'rule'. When I asked for a manager to clarify this 'new rule' she told me she was a manager. Anyone else ever been told that ALL papercrafting items were ACCESSORIES and therefor a coupon can not be used? I also spent 2 hours in Sam's Club so I might be a bit cranky

By accessory, it means to the previous items...like ink for a printer, a cutting blade or plate for a die cutting machine (silhouette, big shot, etc). That person is dumb.

Was the item a Silhouette or Cricut branded item? They generally won't apply a coupon to anything branded Silhouette or Cricut. If it was something like a DCWV paper pack or Tim Holtz item or clearly a non-cutter related item, I'd call their main customer service number. Or...just stop back when there's a different manager working. You can always quietly ask someone in cutting or another place in the store when you can find a different manager, you had a problem and this one isn't helpful.
Good Luck. Our Joann's is usually excellent, but our Michael's sucks, and omg...I hate ever returning ANYTHING to our Hobby Lobby. The company won't go to an itemized receipt--but our store will argue nonstop that the item you bought isn't the one listed on the receipt for whatever random reason.

Ugh. So frustrating. I'd call their corporate office and ask them what the story is. That's crazy!

The 25% off your total purchase coupon on Black Friday always excludes doorbusters at JoAnns. All of the papercrafting stuff being 50% off was a doorbuster so that's why your coupon didn't apply.

I swear Michael's & JoAnn's coupons are becoming so hard to understand. I like Hobby Lobby. The coupons are simple.

I agree - I don't bother with JoAnns or Michaels coupons any more. They always have an exclusion. Or, the item is on sale for 40% off, so I can't use my 50% coupon.
The worst has to be Xyron refills. They won't let you use a coupon, at least at JoAnns, because it's a cartridge. Ridiculous.

I despise my local Joann's and their stupid coupons. I have twice won discounts that I couldn't use because there was literally nothing in their store I wanted that wasn't an excluded item. One time I bought a roll of packing tape... because that's all I could find that I needed/wanted. (It doesn't help that my local store was in need of a freshen-up renovation about 10 years ago and that their shelves are always empty. I honestly don't know how this particular store stays in business.)
The sad thing in your case is that the manager didn't give you the discount anyway, for goodwill's sake. Of course they had you over a barrel because you'd already bought the thing for the non-discount price. But really, would it have killed them to give you a few dollars off and make you happy? Instead they made you mad and you told a bunch of other people how horrible they were. Smart business strategy, Joann's.

I missed closing at the 800 CS number so I wrote an email...I'll give them till Tuesday before I call. A friend said I should have asked for the store manager who might have been surprised to find out one of his/her cashiers was 'also' a manager!!!
