I am looking for a new vacuum. I have a bad back and the Hoover Progressive we have is pretty heavy. If I get a new vacuum, I could have one on each floor. I have been hearing a lot about the Shark Navigator Lift Away bagless Upright Vacuum. It seems to have good reviews, but I love the peas input as well! I have a German Shepherd so I need something that is good with a dog that is always shedding!

Funny you should ask, mom and I were standing in the vacuum aisle talking about the Navigator the other day. A lady happened by and was singing the praises. She said she has one and uses it more than her $$$ Kirby. She's got 4 dogs (we asked because that's a consideration for both of us too), and she said that it's only 8lbs. She even said her husband has taken to using it (the Kirby was his idea because "we'll never have to buy another vacuum again" lol!)
I'm hoping "santa" (mom) will put one under the tree for me this year... My stinky bagged vacuum has GOT to go!

I hate mine, it tips over all the time. I don't like the hassle of using it as a cannister style. I really hate it as an upright though because it tips over all.the.time. Every use. Boom! There it goes.
For that reason, I say NOOOOOO

I just got this one last month: Shark VacuumSo far, I absolutely love it. When I first saw the head, I thought it was going to be too small, but it pivots into little nooks between and under furniture so well. The suction is amazing. It picked up the matted pile in traffic areas on our 15 year old builder grade carpet. I have hardwoods and tile as well and it goes from carpet to bare floors with the flip of a conveniently located switch. The tools are stowed right on the handle and they actually stay put unlike my old vac where they constantly fell off. There's also another head for upholstery and stairs that works very well on my carpeted stairs and also a microfiber head for bare floors. I haven't used that yet. I don't find it heavy at all. I don't have a dog, but I have a bird and it's sucks up his wayward feathers and seed very well in a carpeted area including along the edge of the carpet. I remember seeing a Shark with pet features/tools when I was shopping for this, but since that wasn't a big need for me, I didn't pay a lot of attention to those reviews. The downside: The base tends to tip over when you remove the handle to use attachments. I think this will become less of an issue as the hose stretches a bit from use. This is my second bagless and it blows away the Bissell I had before this. I also own a Miele canister and I inherited a Kirby which I truly despise. Suction is poor and the thing weighs a ton. Not worth having it serviced to me.

I'm thinking about getting one because the Dyson Animal that we have is terrible for stairs. It has dang near killed me a few times already when I try to stretch the hose just a *little* too far when vacuuming from the top down. Ouch. That thing weighs a freaking TON!

We love ours. It is lightweight so it is easy to haul up and down the stairs. I like being able to pop out the canister and vacuum around the corners of the room or the heating vents. Our dogs don't shed but the cat does and it does a nice job on the cat hair.

The one I mentioned is on sale for $133.99 at Best Buy right now, that is the cheapest price I have seen.

I adore mine. It maneuvers easily, picks up everything (we have 3 dogs) , the attachments are easy to use and the light shows every tiny piece of dust. It works great on carpet as well as hard serfaces. Oh and it goes under chairs, sofas, end tables, etc quite far so I don't feel the need to move furniture as often as I needed to in the past.
ETA steps are much easier because I can use it as a canister and put the super duper small twirly sucky thing on the hose and it does my whole staircase.

That's what I have.
I have a boxer and a yellow lab that sheds a ton.
I really like it.

I'd love it if I could relegate that thing to my basement studio forever!

I just realized we have a Consumer Reports Guide and it ranks a different Shark the highest. It has their number one vacuum the Shark Navigator Powered Lift-Away NV581 as the best and it is $300 but on sale at Target for $199. Not sure which one to buy between the NV360 (the original post) and the NV581.
Does anyone know what the big differences are between the Shark Lift Away models?

I have this one from Costco. I love it. It is so much better than the Dyson I owned before purchasing this Shark.

I have one, bought it a couple of years ago. It's my firstbagless, always had a Hoover before. It's pretty amazing at how much it pulls out of my carpet. I don't like emptying the canister or cleaning it or washing the filter...

I love the Shark. Maybe even better than my Dyson because it's lighter and very affordable. For that price, it's worth a try!!

There it goes. For that reason, I say NOOOOOO Yes- mine tips over, too every time I use the wand- drives me nuts. It does have good suction, but I loved my Dyson so much more! And so bulky. Also to me, the cord is on the wrong side- I'm right-handed.

I ended up buying the Shark Navigator Powered Lift-Away NV581, it was on sale at Target for $199 (reg. $299). It was rated #1 by Consumer Reports and got good reviews on the Target site. So many love their Sharks, but I didn't realize there were so many Sharks! I guess they are all pretty good. Can't wait to try the new one!

There it goes. That's why I hate ours too. Or why I hatED it. DH bought it in May when we moved into our new house because of how heavy our Dyson Animal is. After 5 months, it stop sucking. (Which, ironically, makes it suck. Oy.) So the Dyson came back out, and DH (who does 100% of the vacuuming) feels it does a much better job. It's just too bad it's so flipping heavy (as we have a 3 story townhouse, so there are a LOT of stairs to schlep it up and down).

I use a Shark Navigator Professional. It works well with German Shedder hair. I'll never go back to a bagged vacuum again.

I have the shark 3 in 1 and it's a great vacuum. WAY lighter than the dysons and you can choose whether you want an upright or canister or you can pull it off the base and carry it down the stairs by the handle. It looks like they sell the canister base separately now.

Part of the reason I got the new one is so we can have one on both floors and to have a lighter vacuum. I always have the kids help me carry the Kenmore Progressive up the stairs. My husband and I have bad backs and don't lift much.
