I do not want my weight on the flyers. Just saw one pop up on facebook and thought is it really necessary? Most of us weigh between 100-200 lbs, do you think knowing the exact number is going to help identify someone better?

Yes I think there's a very noticeable difference between the two extremes. I'm 5'10 and even 15 lbs changes the shape of my face slightly.
Basically if I'm missing - just find me. I'll worry about being embarrassed later!

Honestly...it can.
I can get gruesome if you'd like but I'd prefer not to.

Yes actually. There is a big difference in the appearance between a 5'6" woman who weighs 100lbs and a 5'6" woman who weighs 200lbs.

Well yes obviously I know that, but I don't think people are specially looking for a 100lb woman, I think they remember the face on the flyer, not looking at the body to make sure it matches.

There is presumably a proven reason for including that info. As well as remembering a face people will be looking for a large or a smaller woman, in simplistic terms.

Not necessary, it may just be routine, like posting the birth date which can lead to identify fraud instead of just posting the age. Some places have switched to just age but I still see some flyers with full birth date.

Losing 150 pounds made my face completely unrecognizable, so I do think it makes a difference. I'm 4'11" though and 10 pounds makes a difference in my tummy. I can look 5 months pregnant over a bloated tummy I get what you are saying though, weight is an embarrassment for a lot of people. Heck, I didn't dare speak my true weight when I was heavy (even now it's hard to admit).

Almost all of us are between 5' and 6' tall and yet that makes a heck of a difference in visual appearance. Why wouldn't the relationship between height and weight be significant in identifying someone?

I'm assuming the victims will look close to the photo of their face shown.

Oh - also, while iPhones and Snapchat filters have encouraged many people to have their photo taken, I'd bet there are a lot of instances where it's hard to find a current photo of a missing person.

for me, don't use my weight on my Drivers License. that's a lie for sure. and quite misleading to the search party too.

I think if I'm missing, my vanity is the least of my concerns. You never know. Just to be safe caption one of your selfies "Missing Photo". That way your family will know which one you'd prefer used. One less thing for them to worry about when they are trying to find you.

What if someone beat your face so badly it was hard to identify? Or you were in a car accident and your face smashed in? Or someone dumped your body into a body of water and it was weeks before they found your bloated decomposing body and face?
I think that you are placing way to much faith in having your face being identifiable if you went missing. The more physical information included on fliers, the better - if being found is more important to you than vanity.

I'm 4'11" and lost 30, and people keep asking me if I'm sick (which I am, but that's not relevant right now).
As for the flyers, yes a standard LE description usually includes some type of indication of weight/build. (ex. they're chasing someone they'll give the gender, race, heavy/medium/slight build and clothing/other). I can see where a more specific weight could be helpful on a missing persons flyer.

Not everyone has recent, nicely posed, full-body shots of themselves without other people in the photo that could be used on the flyer - and many of them to choose from! I mean, if you do have lots of those photos... then your weight probably won't be needed as a descriptor. But who has lots of those photos laying around? Oh...

It's sad we live in a time where someone is more concerned about their weight being on a flyer than say, being cut up in pieces along the highway.

If I go missing, find my fat ass. I don't care if you have to tell people my weight, where my freckles are, that my teeth are a little crooked...just find me. Just in case this is my view:

I hear ya. Although I don't think I have to worry about that. Being over your upper figure, it would be REALLY hard for anyone to abduct me. :-)
In all seriousness, though, giving a weight could also be very misleading. My BFF works on a farm and is all muscle. She weighs 185 and looks like she weighs 120. If they gave her actual weight, people would be looking for a person who appears much heavier.

I get what you are saying. If there is a recent picture, that is a better way to let people know what they are looking for than to say height and weight. Although if I was actually missing it probably wouldn't bother me if people knew my weight as long as it helped them find me.

I am with Annabella- and while pudgy-I do not think my weight is easily guessed so I do not think it would help the search for me! And I am guessing if I am missing against my will- my weight is going to change....I do not think my 'captor' is going to make the same food choices/indulgences I make for myself. Hopefully none of us will ever have to worry about this- and if my face is somehow not identifiable, not sure if the roll around my belly (front bum as my sister calls it!)or my underarm wings would be enough to say yup- that is Diane!
When I saw the title of the post- I thought this was going to be about peas I would miss! And yes Annabella- I would miss you--- you make me think and I love your fashion sense!

If you go missing, you're gonna have bigger shit to worry about. I know, right? but for me, it's not vanity, it's accuracy. if the police go off of what's on my license, they will have to go back to 1987 to find the girl that matches that weight.

I just wish the world had a realistic idea of what women weigh. From most of what i see, people seem to think any female edging toward 140 is a damn heifer. As a young woman with a pretty damn fine body i weighed 150. I'm tall, but not that tall (5'9").

Don't worry, no one probably even knows your true weight. They'll go by your driver's license, so you're safe
