I was really excited that my side of town FINALLY got a craft store (besides a tiny J's that doesn't sell much scrapbook stuff). The new store (local chain) is less than a mile from my house (versus their other store in town which is 12 miles away), yay!
Then I found out the yarn store, across the parking lot from the new craft store, closed because the craft store "drastically undercut and aggressively targeted" the yarn store. There is mention online of the big bad box store (which is really only a chain of 8 stores, not like an M's or something) taking out the "little guy" etc etc. They do sell yarn, but it's not the "good" stuff...
Why can't I have both a LSS (or at least close to a LSS ) and local yarn store? Is it so much to ask to have one of each?
We also lost our local sewing store (Hancock Fabrics) when it closed not that long ago as well, about 5 minutes after I decided to learn how to sew...
It's like whac-a-mole, one opens, the other closes, a new store opens, there goes the first store...

I'm sorry. It stinks. It's such a niche market that it's hard to have more than one store selling the same type of things, but it really sucks for the buyer. And it sucks that a store would drastically undercut one tiny bit of its competition. I'm sorry.

Our Hancok also closed. Did they go out of business?
Sorry this keeps happening. It will be sad if it reaches the point we can only shop online if we want more than one choice. It is a tough market out there these days.

Ugh that sucks. It's so hard for any stores to survive now.
