So, we've had owls and foxes, and flamingos, and cacti - oh my!
Gold foil, and banners, and hot air balloons and kites.
Pink in every paper pad and kit.
What are you hoping to see?
What are you hoping to NOT see?
What will be the new on trend item in 2017?

To answer my own question, I'm hoping for panda bears.
How about texture being the thing? Instead of glitter or foil.

Not saying it's in my cart and I will be hitting buy this week or anything. I like your idea of texture. Hmm. I usually have a prediction or two but right now I got nothing. I hope mustaches are done and gone. I think triangles. We had the hexagon, circles. So why not give triangles there 15 mins

The color trend using brown or navy as base colors with contrasting light or bright color seems to be gaining momentum. Shimelle did it well with her lines, but others such as Photoplay and even Simple Stories have had some real color misses IMO. I understand they're trying to be different and get away from pink, but look at the beautiful color combinations from Bo Bunny or Carta Bella in comparison.
I think we will continue to see plaid until we are sick to death of it. Don't get me wrong, I like it, especially Lawn Fawn, but the bandwagon has just begun on this one.
The trend in tiny stamps and stickers for planners will be around for some time, as will brush lettering on EVERYTHING. Both are things I like for now, but maximum overload will occur at some point in 2017.
I'm not a fan of cartoony animals and children, but those are here to stay, especially in stamps. Gotta put those Copics to good use!
I'd like to see more artistry and pretty color combinations. I miss Basic Grey and October Afternoon *sigh*, but even they lost their way chasing the trends toward the end. There will always be room for illustrators, artists, and real graphic designers to add their talent to this industry.

This is a great question!
I would love some more lines that I guess are more...basic? Not sure is basic is the right word but some lines WITHOUT pink first of all. How about some greens, blues, greys, browns, oranges...etc! Please just give us some choices sans pink.
I would love some papers and embellies with geometrics, stripes and designs that are not drenched in frills lol.
And you know what...I would like a collection where I want every single piece. Not just where I kind-of-sort-of like a few papers here and there. A FULL collection!

Not sure what to expect. As to what I would like... I like nicolep's idea of more basic, less frilly. And LavenderLayoutLady's idea about texture. And scrappington's triangles. I would also throw in less retro. More images of modern dads & moms, in jeans & teeshirts, doing the kinds of things they do with their everyday kids. Cars that have been manufactured after the VW van? And car seats. And kids in seat belts. Let's throw in Gramma sans button up housedress & Grampa sans pipe or mustache?

Hoping for men's-suits-inspired patterns (eg herringbone, pinstripe, plaid) & colors (eg black, charcoal, grey, navy, red, white), mature/non-cutesy sports collections (including non-revenue sports, such as track/field, lacrosse, swimming, etc.), lines featuring medium to dark purples, & more manufacturers entering the industry.
While pink is my favorite color, & I've included more than a fair share in our son's childhood albums, I'm hoping NOT to see more predominantly pink & feminine collections or random icons or clichés on everything.
I hope the new trend is classic, masculine, textured, & quality supplies (& my annual wish for a resurgence in popularity of various textures of cardstock in every color imaginable)!

Purple. I'm not sure what the anti-purple scrapbooking thing is about but I'm going to have a kid at a school with purple as one of their colors in a few years so bring on the purple!
I also would love to see more navy and way less pastels and definitely no more coral and gold!
One more thing I can never get enough of if my house full of nerds is science/science fiction stuff...

I think the 'wallpaper' florals that have been making their way into collections the latter part of the year will be continue to gain popularity in 2107.
Personally, I'm so over gold and the watercolored everything look.
I would love to see some collections with a true white as the background in patterned paper instead of cream or the off-white that is so commonplace.

I don't mind the pink/coral/gold but I don't need to have it in every collection. I could definitely do without the random animals/icons (please no more glasses!).
I've noticed butterflies have started to make a resurgence in recent collections and I'm expecting we'll see more of those.

I love PaperAngel's wish for more masculine. Along that same thought, I have a tween boy and as much as I love orange, I am over it for boys. Give me something other than blue, green and orange combos.

BTW has there been a line lately featuring health and fitness? I see some Peas are thinking of tracking their fitness journey, and what could be a better way to track it than scrapping it?

Do you all remember years ago when Heidi Swapp predicted bows would be an upcoming popular item and nobody could believe it? While I still can't use those bows to save my life, everytime I look at them I'm reminded of her saying that. Did she start the trend?
I have no idea what the new trend will be, but because I seem to be a year or more behind on trends, I have time to really pay attention! I just now have begun to LOVE what I can do with washi. I probably have at most ten, and luckily I don't plan on purposely collecting more. How far behind am I on that huge trend?

Hunter green is back. I predict more of it and plaids showing up in the last half of 2017.
I am another vote for more basic lines as well, but I'm super picky about fonts. Fonts will make or break a product/line for me. I don't care for the preschool looking handwritten font Elle's Studio used in a lot of their kits this year. I also don't care for most of the fonts used in the Pinkfresh "Mix" line.

I agree that plaid is hitting it big now, but I don't know if that will hold up with spring and summer lines.

I think we will see less pinks and a move towards 'earthy' colors: blues, greens with a little peach thrown in. Maybe a deeper turquoise?

Texture and pandas/exotic animals would be great. I'm also hoping craft cocktails are coming onto the scene. Whoops, wrong thread 😊

Based on the Pantone color for 2017, I'm hoping more earthy colors and leafy (vs floral) prints will be around soon with a clean, crisp aesthetic. I'm already tired of the big florals. And maybe this is just because I've been looking at December Daily inspiration lately, but I'm seeing a lot of "collection" photography - a grouping of similar or related items on a bright white background. I think this hasn't seen it's peak yet, and it's gorgeous to look at. I think handwriting and lettering will continue to be a trend for a while, but right now I'm loving the vintage logo/label look of word art and I hope to see more stamps and cut files, like this:

I predict watercolor, brushstrokes, pink, blue and gold foil will not die. I don't know what will be new because I haven't paid much attention to newer trends. I'll say sloth because I think that's an animal that hasn't been done to death. I would like to see more lines with primary colors with a bit of a muted tone. I'm always on the lookout for retro kitchen papers that would work for a recipe album. A birthday line in above colors.

Yes, American Crafts seems determined to make pink, gold and watercolor THE colors of scrapbooking don't they?

Scrap stuff is always several seasons behind on interior design trends so, normally, if we're being logical, then I presume 2017 might finally: - catch up with the Scandinavian minimalist aesthetics (black, dark grey, loads of white, simple graphics) - give us rose gold foil all over the journaling cards and specialty papers - make big bold typography the star feature If (and that's a big if) the scrap industry magically manages to keep up with the overall visual trends, then 2017 should bring us: - loads of fresh green ( Greenery is the Pantone colour of the year 2017) - bold but simple designs (with really bold shades, nothing faded or low saturation) - return to nature (so mom's earthy tones predictions would be true) - classes focusing on documenting the realest of your life, spontaneity, the true everyday, in medias res photography

I'd like to see more neutrals - grey, beige, greige, and maybe some navy, soft greens and mom's suggestion of peach for some color. I'd like to see fewer collections that look like they were inspired by children's books. I know they're great for those who have little ones, but I don't have little ones anymore. I'd also like to see less of the white on white one white on white trend. I like pink but I'm starting to see why so many are asking for less of it.
