The thread title about scrapbook dieting brought this to mind. I've seen a few peas mention starting fitness and diet plans when the new year rolls in. It's a great time to start fresh and make some changes. Accountability really helps! Would anyone be interested in a thread to share goals and accomplishments related to health, fitness, and weight loss even though it's off topic?

I already started....Although for the last 2 years hubby and I have been one what we call a "healthy eating plan" and we only took the holiday season T-giving - Christmas Day to splurge. But we are getting back on track. I don't weigh so it is hard for me to quantify my progress, but I am all in for a healthier eating plan in the new year. Good luck everyone.

Wonderful! There are so many ways of going about this. It could be about making healthier choices, becoming more active, dropping pounds. Or a combination or something different. Maybe you have an event or a milestone that you want to look like a hot mama for. Whatever it is for you, think about your goals and share them with us here on January 1st. That's only 5 days away!

There is far too much scientific research showing that most New Year's resolutions don't really work (in the long run) and demonstrating the psychology behind them for me to even bother with any. However, I applaud anyone trying. Personally, I didn't wait until January the 1st for changing/starting to change a couple of habits I didn't particularly like into better ones. But support, both in real life and online, is always a great tool. To anyone wanting to set goals to "start fresh" as 2017 comes into view, may I suggest this article? It gives you a few steps to help you make your goals more achievable and turn them from wishful thinking into better prospects for success. The "You Might Also Like" suggestin list on the side of the article leads to several more entries about this particular topic. Excerpt: Best of luck, RefuPeas!

I stopped making New Year's resolutions several years ago because my enthusiasm and motivation never lasted long. Instead I choose a word and a quote to inspire me during the year - for 2017 I've chosen (or perhaps more accurately it chose me) Health as my word and "Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live." as my quote. I'm looking at my BIG goals and breaking them down into smaller daily and weekly goals and have found an accountability partner who is working on similar goals that I can touch base with daily. I'm hoping that support here will also help. I KNOW that I'll backslide and have challenges....heck my word this year was Joy and I struggled ALL year with it but looking back, even though it was hard to find joy among the anxiety and sorrow, it helped that I was trying to.

I agree about the resolutions. Moderation and balance work best for me. That, and like you said, acceptance that I'll have bumps in the road but they don't mean failure. I've learned that after too much pizza/cake/nachos I have to pick myself up, dust myself off, move on, and not dwell on it. The good news is that I can still make progress and get healthier even with those bumps in the road.

The good news is that I can still make progress and get healthier even with those bumps in the road. Christmas has been a bump in the road for me and we have plans for New Years Eve that probably will be also - our holidays are healthier than they were in teh past but I still eat too much of the wrong things. So early January once the leftovers are gone, is a natural reset time for me. What I've been seeing is that even when I backslide, I'm starting from a better place and I'm not sliding as far back as I used to...so while I'm not making the progress that I want to make, I AM making progress

I'm in.
I don't consider it a New Years Resolution to be healthier. I consider goal planning, realizing that bumps, breaks, and life get in the way and I'll need to assess and reassess goals throughout the year, taking the right steps to realign goals or replace if necessary. For all my goals. But I do like setting my goals on a calendar year basis. As I set up my planner for the coming year.

I'm in too. I just signed up for Cathy Zielske's FIT class. I need to do things like this with others. Going on my own has never worked well for me.

Would anyone be interested in a thread to share goals and accomplishments related to health, fitness, and weight loss even though it's off topic? It's not off topic if you journal your progress
