Have you found all the required reading materials?
Here is the list from the MSU class:
Required Materials:
Little House In The Big Woods, Laura Ingalls Wilder, HarperCollins, 0060581808 Farmer Boy, Laura Ingalls Wilder, HarperCollins, 0064400034 Little House On The Prairie, Laura Ingalls Wilder, HarperCollins, 0064400026 On The Banks Of Plum Creek, Laura Ingalls Wilder, HarperCollins, 0064400042 Laura Ingalls Wilder: A Writer’s Life, Pamela Smith Hill, South Dakota State Historical Society Press, 097779556X
Recommended Reading:
Laura Ingalls Wilder's Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Edition, Pamela Smith Hill, South Dakota State Historical Society Press Young Pioneers, Rose Wilder Lane, HarperCollins, 0064406989 Of the three non-Wilder books, I can only track down the first one in the required reading. Has anyone had luck tracking down the recommended books?
Thanks.

I hadn't heard about this, but just signed up. Sounds like it should be really interesting.

Thanks for the information. That's pretty much what I found as well. The store I normally deal with is not carrying these books, but I'll keep looking.
I am really looking forward to this class.

Try here -- Laura Ingalls Museum, Walnut Grove, MN I didn't compare your list to their offerings, but even if they don't list it on their website, it might be worth calling them. They may have a stray copy or two in the store that they don't list on the site. My grandparents' house was just a few miles away from Walnut Grove and the site of the dugout. The museum is tiny, but we went at least once a year when I was growing up.

Thanks. I'll check that out. Getting these books is not as simple as I thought it would be! I see shipping charges in my future!

what is this class of which you speak?? I love Laura Ingalls Wilder! I would love to know too! Maybe my DD#3 and I can take it together. She now cannot head to college as she has buldging discs in her back that need to be taken care of. This could be a good thing for us. Would love info. Thanks!

I can't get things through American Amazon and the Canadian version doesn't have them. Makes no sense, but it's true. I really appreciate all the help, I'll track them down.

What a neat class. Thanks for mentioning it here. I love LIW so I just enrolled as well. I know my mother has one or two non-Wilder authored books about the Ingalls, so I will check to see if she has any of the 2 available ones. But I have all of the others already.

I'm enrolled but the reading list isn't there when I log in - weird. I have all the LIW books, I'll see what else I can pick up between now and end of September when the class starts.

I signed up for the class too. So cool, thanks for posting the information.
None of her books are available for the kindle! I find that so surprising. Her books are so popular I thought for sure they would be available as ebooks. Now I will have to dig my paper copies out of the attic! I better go do it now in the daylight, much easier to find! LOL.
Whoa, the Pioneer Girl book is going to be $40 and is a hardback book. I'll have to find out if we really need it.

you should also read The Wilder Life...woman follows all the books to their locations, tries stuff in the books, and looks at the reality vs the books. really good.

I just signed up for the LIW class and also the Ozarks History class. My dad grew up in the same county that LIW lived in and we used to pass by her farm on the way to my grandmother's house. Laura died a year after my grandmother died, so she was living there and we were driving past her house and I didn't know it.

I recently re-bought the entire set, but haven't read any of the other ones (or if I did, it's been years). I know I've read some about her 'real' life, but don't remember much of it. My LIW knowledge is more from driving through Wisconsin, Lake Pepin (where the Little HOuse in the Big Woods was). Never been to the museum there, though. Not sure if I'd be up for a real 'literature' course- it's been way too long since I've been in ANY classroom setting, lol, but I might check out the other books and see.

I'm signed up. I miss literature classes from college and I think this will be fun. Her books were my favorites as a tween.

My school library only had about 3 of her books, but I read them all. I know I read Little House in the Big Woods, On the Banks of Plum Creek, and The Long Winter. My daughter got into them in 4th grade and read them all. Later, I reread the 3 I knew plus the others, and later still, when I was working as a Children's Public Librarian, I planned a unit for the home-schoolers I called, "No WalMart on the Prairie" and used her books as a jumping off point. I reread them all again. Then when my granddaughter got old enough to read them, I gave her her mother's set and then wished I had some of my own, so I purchased them at Half Price books until I had once again the whole set, at which time I read them again. I have visited her home in Mansfield 3 times, and in 1996 my sister-in-law and I visited the sites of the Little Houses in Kansas, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, making a loop of the midwest. If I've already told that story, I apologize for repeating myself. I have also read Susan Wittig Albert's book A Wilder Rose, which details the role her daughter had in helping her write and publish the Little House books.
