I would like to use this design and make it probably 6x6 inches or maybe a little larger and cut it with vinyl. It is going to be used on the cover of a mini album. The vinyl is going to be adhered to paper. Should I purchase the vinyl the Silhouette store sells. It is now 20% off.
From googling, I've figured out that Oracal vinyl is good. Should I purchase the 651 (outdoor) or 631 (indoor) vinyl for the above project?
I've not used vinyl before so I am not sure what to purchase for this project.
Thanks.

I use Oracal 651 for almost everything! Oracal 631 is meant to be removable from things like walls. I don't personally care for Silhouette vinyl at all. I prefer Oracal. Don't forget you will need transfer tape too.

Htstepper, thanks for the reply. I am going to google and find some Oracal 651 and transfer tape and get it ordered.

If you're sticking it to paper, it shouldn't matter whether you use Oracal 631 or 651. Both will be permanent enough on that type of surface. The main difference is that the 631 comes in more decorator colors and it has a matte finish. The 651 I believe is only glossy and comes in fewer colors overall. So if you happen to find the perfect color in 631, I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Crazy4scraps, thanks for replying. It's getting too late tonight to google for it. But, I think it's narrowed down to purchase the Oracal brand.
Does anyone have a good brand of transfer tape that they buy?

I use clear contact paper that I get from Walmart or the Dollar Store. Some folks will have a hissy fit at that idea but UT works great for me.

I buy oracal in rolls - trying to remember the place I go through - I think it's US cutter. I use transfer tape from Amazon but the stuff is super sticky, annoys me and would never work with paper.

Crazy4scraps, thanks for replying. It's getting too late tonight to google for it. But, I think it's narrowed down to purchase the Oracle brand. Does anyone have a good brand of transfer tape that they buy? It kind of depends which vinyl you're using and what you're putting it on. I have tried several brands and various levels of tackiness and haven't been 100% satisfied with any of them to be honest. The problem with the 631 is that it has a matte finish which looks really nice but it's a little harder to transfer without the right tape. The masking type tapes don't seem to stick to the surface of it very well, and the tackier tapes don't release very well. The best one I've tried for 631 is the clear R Tape brand. I know you can get it at Sign Warehouse, not sure where else you can find it. The 651 has a glossy surface so most of the transfer tapes work a little better with it overall and since the 651 has permanent adhesive there is less of a problem with it staying stuck to the project when you're applying it. I like the clear tapes better than the masking tape type tapes in general especially for layering and positioning on the project.

Htstepper, Crazy4scraps, Gramma, Mely, and Nicolep, thanks for giving me information about vinyl. I think I am going to order a few 12" x 24" sheets of the Oracal 651 from Expressionsvinyl.com. For now, I am probably going to order whatever transfer tape they sell. (Unless someone posts on here that is not the best of plans.) I need to see how this goes before I get into ordering vinyl in rolls. Nicolep, I agree with you, I've also learned a lot from this board. Somewhere on the Internet I saw a mini album made with a vinyl title on the front and thought that would be neat to try. I had no idea what kind of stuff I needed. Thanks everyone.

I think it'll make a neat mini cover! Please share when you're done (if you'd like)!

My plans are to make two Winnie the Pooh mini albums for two different friends. It's going to be a while before even one gets done. I tend to get distracted into too many tangents. If they turn out ok, I'll post a picture back on this thread.

Is there a particular reason you want to use vinyl since it's going on paper? I would be afraid of the transfer tape tearing the paper. If it's going to be the cover, I would lean towards cutting it out of paper and then Mod Podge or sealer over top.
