I took a nasty spill two days ago that left bruises across the front of my thighs, my upper left arm, and my right forearm. Plus I blew out the veins from my right first and second fingers to my wrist.
Did not hit my head but ever since yesterday morning, I've had a constant headache. Thought it was sinuses but meds don't have any effect.
I have my six month brain mri scheduled for this Friday, I'm thinking I just wait because I'm not nauseous or any other signs of concussion. I go see my neurologist right afterward so he'll tell me if he sees anything funkier than usual.
Could it be a concussion or just aches and pains from the fall?

I'm am not sure, am not a doctor or even play one on TV, but I believe I read once that yes you can. From the brain shake/move/hit skull inside, I think. Off to google ETA: What is a concussion? A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). It can occur after an impact to the head causes the or after a whiplash-type injury that head and brain to shake quickly back and forth. Concussions are usually not life-threatening, but they can cause serious symptoms that require medical treatment. A concussion is a traumatic injury that results in an altered mental state that may include becoming unconscious. link

Yes you can. Think Shaken Baby Syndrome. Honestly I'd get it checked out ASAP and have an imPACT test done. Often nothing will show on a CT scan or MRI unless there is a brain bleed. But then, I had a son who played football, so I was taught to take this VERY seriously. And ironically, his severe concussion was from snowboarding.
There isn't a lot you can do. The treatment is basically to do nothing. DS laid in a dark room for 2 weeks listening only to audio books. No screens.
Brain trauma is generally very exhausting. You may be crabby and irritable, sleep a lot or irratically. Your short term memory can be affected and may have trouble concentrating. You do not have to lose consciousness to have a concussion.
Good luck!

My dd got a concussion...she was at gymnastics for cheer and was flipping into the foam pit. She missed the pit and landed on the side on her butt...her head whipped hard enough that she had a mild concussion with a small case of whiplash.

You don't say how you landed, but if you fall hard on your bottom, the jarring can shake your brain in your skull in the same way as if you hit your head. If you're worried, please go and get checked out. Feel better soon.

Nothing to add that hasn't already been said; just wanted to say hope you feel better soon.

Yes, even though your head didn't strike a solid object, your brain could have whacked your skull hard enough to be a concussion. I would treat it as such.

My son had a concussion without a direct hit to his head. He was tackled playing high school football, it was an extremely hard hit, one of those ones that you can hear in the stands and everyone gasps. He was fine after a couple weeks.

Yep, my sister did. Much like the others said, whiplash induced concussion. She was pretty ill for several days and then some lingering effects for a while after that.

Went to my regular doctor today. He said it didn't look like a concussion, but an injury to the muscles going into my neck.
He said I'll need to notify the MRI tech to have additional support during my scans. :/

That's what happened to my friends teenage daughter a few weeks ago. She fell, didn't hit her head, got bruises on her arm, and headache for a few days. So she went to the dr and they said she had a concussion. She is concussion prone, so they said it sounded like a concussion. It's her third concussion in 5 yrs. She goes to school half days a few days a week. She can watch tv, workout a little, and be on the computer, but can't read. I thought the computer would be worse than reading a book, but none of my kids have been officially diagnosed with a concussion, so I don't know much about it.
