Happy new year everyone! I started a thread about this ages ago, so thought I'd try again. Has anyone purchased or received a Silhouette Curio for Christmas? I want to buy one and hope that it's improved since it came out. Yeah or nay, what say the peas, please? Thank you in advance for any advice!

I got the Cameo 3 from Santa. I just barely plugged it in so far, but it has some great new capabilities. I owned the original Cameo until now and I can't wait for the Autoblade. There is a deal for the Cameo 3 bundle on Woot today. I posted it in another thread.

I considered getting one but decided against it for now. I have a Cameo and love it. The Curio reviews, however, made me reconsider purchasing the Curio, which is intended as a supplemental machine, although it can stand alone. Also, it is a smaller machine, and has a smaller mat. Considering what it is intended to do, this is not that surprising, but that is one reason why is is not intended to replace the Cameo. If you want to do a lot of etching, etc., it could be useful, but I decided that I would not get that much use out of it.

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering about this vs the cricut. I need a main machine. I don't do enough nor have enough room to acquire several machines at the moment. It also seems that the Cricut can do several things I'm officially that the Cameo can do can anyone speak to that? I'm referring to etching and embossing things like that.

I actually ought the new Cricut Explore Air 2 right before Black Friday, but I have not really had time to find out all that it can do.
I will say that electronic machines do not emboss as deeply or clearly as embossing folders do, so I prefer the folders. I had a Gazelle, which could emboss, too. Electronic machines simply cannot emboss as well due to the way they emboss compared to the way folders emboss.

Thanks for all your replies. What I'm interested in doing is cutting shrink plastic. I haven't been able to do it with my current Silhouette, so I've ordered the Silhouette 3 machine. The idea of the Curio is wonderful, I've just read such lousy reviews about it.

I'd probably do a double cut and slow the cutter down, but the plastic isn't that thick.

Anniefb, thank you very much for posting that tutorial! I was trying to do some intricate cuts in shrink plastic and not having much luck. In the end, I opted to get the Silhouette 3 hoping it will cut deeper. We'll see, and I'll keep you posted.
