I wouldn't buy any storage until you know what you have and how you will organize it. I have done complete re-organizations twice.
1. I really liked doing this: If possible, I would take out everything at one time and decide what you will keep and I'd have boxes to put things in by type. I'd be really hard on myself and honest and destash as much as possible. Once I got a look at what I was keeping, I would make storage decisions, taking into account how I use my supplies and tools. This is how I did things once. I have two Expedits. One is for scrapbook supplies and one is for stamping and "other." I keep fabric, as well as ribbons and trims on the stamping Expedit. I also made a couple of zones for specific tasks.
2. I have also re-organized by going through one category at a time.
I have made the mistake of buying storage first ... a couple of times and always end up with stuff that doesn't work or that I do not use. If you think about it, we don't really want "storage" per se, we want holders that we are using, kwim? Once I did the organizing first and purchases storage items not on how it stored things but on how I used my supplies, I cut out a lot of things that didn't work and now save myself a lot of money by not buying first.

ellewood when you get a chance, would you mind telling what the interior dimensions of the tall Alex drawers are? I have the low one and love it. The tall ones would help by taking up less space, but I am wondering the dimensions. I don't think it will fit anything 12x12? I've searched online, but couldn't fine. Thanks! (These measurements are approximate, as I am not great with a tape measure) The drawers are all 17" deep x 11 1/2" wide. The top 5 drawers are just under 3 1/2' tall and the bottom 4 drawers are 5 1/4" tall. Just a bit too narrow for 12x12 paper! My 9x12 PP fit perfectly and you can put thicker sheets side by side. I'ts great for corraling smaller embellishments. It works for me because I have little bits of a lot of different stuff.

l love the way Jenn McGuire stores her stamps. Thanks for that reference. I currently have mine in binders. Not my favorite way to store. May have to think about changing it up.

I reorganize about once a year. I have a craft room. I've been reorganizing the past couple of days. I started with my desk area. Then moved on to my Expedit. I still have a closet and several drawers to go through. I am out of room in my area so it's purge time! I filled a box and gave it to the local elementary art teacher. (I substitute teach there a lot) I need to start another one.
I'm considering reorganizing my embellishments by color.

ellewood thanks so much! That is good to know how deep they are. I still haven't really decided what I need to change exactly!

I just bought a 9-drawer Alex unit, assembled it, only to find out it doesn't fit 12x12 paper, ugh! Now I'm not sure what I will do with it. Sadly the tall unit doesn't fit 12x12 paper, but I use mine to store all of my embellishments, washi, wood veneer, Thickers, colouring tools (markers, pencil crayons, watercolour crayons), and extras like blades for my cutters and spare adhesive. While it's disappointing that it doesn't quite fit the paper I have found that it was a great tool for corralling all of my embellishments and little things. I have started removing a lot of the bulky packaging from things and have managed to fit quite a lot of stuff into this unit. The shorter wide unit is more than big enough for 12x12 paper, but you would have quite a bit of extra room in the drawers. I use mine for my wood mounted stamps, ink pads, embossing powder, etc. The stamps fit about two deep in the drawers and it's nice to be able to see at a glance what I have. SaveSave

Because we moved in the last 6 months I had to do a reorganize, purge, new set up and am so glad I did. My old room was in the basement and wasn't a place where my family hung out with me so it seem isolating to go down and scrap by myself. (and I didn't much) Plus I just had so.much.stuff. So it's been good to go through what I've got, purged probably 1/4 of it and start over. Our new house has a finished attic (instead of a finished basement) where we pretty much all hang out and my craft area is at one end of it. I've been getting so much more done because I'm not in a room by myself. In my other room I had built an island from the old JoAnn's cubes and I still use that and love it.That wasn't easy to move. Had to take it all apart, haul cube by cube up from the basement of the other house, then up 2 more flights of stairs in the new house. Plus all the paper and everything. My husband said the only way he's moving it out of the attic is through the window! ha ha I also at one time, had worked for a LSS so have 2 tall paper racks plus several bins that move around. I've got the IKEA Expedit to hold all my scrapbooks. Love my new space.

I just bought new furniture to reorganize my space. I already had an Expedit that has 4 x 4 cubes so 16 cubes that I kept (though I plan to replace with a Kallax white one and move the black/brown one to another room in my house). And I had one with 2x4 cubes so 8 cubed Expedit that we moved into our storage room/ large closet that now holds most of my albums. Besides the Expedit, I now have 3 wide Alex drawers and a long desk from ikea. I also bought some hanging shelves but those are waiting on my husband to hang them. I kept some of my 12x12 sterilite drawers although they need to be reorganized. I still need to go through some things but my main advice is decide on what type of storage you like to have. I like drawers for some stuff and cubes/baskets for others. Before, I mainly had cubes and realized I did not have enough drawers so I changed this up. For my cubes, I bought bins at Walmart and Target. The Walmart ones are a little deeper than 12 x12 so they hold kit bags really well. They are larger than the Target ones. I bought Target ones that go 1/2 way up. I use those to store my stamps, 6x6 paper pads and die cuts in small iris containers. My stamps are stored similar to Jennifer Mcquire - but I use the target cloth bins instead of the plastic fridge containers. Good luck on figuring it all out. I do think it takes time and sometimes you find out what does and doesn't work after you use it for awhile
