Definitely a first world problem. Ordered a WeRMemoryKeepers mint typewriter from CraftDirect.com in Nov. Yes, it said it was on backorder. Instantly, my credit card was charged. I assumed when it was charged the item was about to ship. NO...after several phone calls, emails...never getting any response from customer service...Peas suggested posting on Facebook. That got immediate attention. So they said it would probably arrive after Christmas and their policy is to charge your credit card from the time you place an order. OK. Well, by New Years, nothing had been shipped. I called the company and someone actually answered the phone. Well, the demand is so great, they are only getting two or three at a time. So...when is the likely shipping date for my Christmas present? After looking up the order, I am number 40 in line...that means they will be getting about 25 shipments before I get mine...all the time sitting on my $175. In fairness, I was offered a refund which I accepted and it did show up this morning on my credit card. The company is still taking orders on their website.

How disappointing! If they are still offering it for sale, I hope they are letting customers know what the wait time will be.

It's ridiculous to take orders if they are that far behind. Sheesh.

Have you looked up review videos (especially ones showcasing it's downsides) for it? I was initially really looking forward to the possibility of getting one but after hearing so many negative things about it (especially taking into consideration the cost), I'm glad I didn't rush out to buy one. Maybe you'll feel the same and eventually feel relief instead of sadness! If it doesn't, then maybe it will just make you excited all over again and ready to wait it out or settle for the black or pink one from Michael's and just get or make yourself a really pretty mint fabric cover?

You can get an antique typewriter at the antique store for $75 or less... I saw two or three last week when we were out browsing. Mine isn't a popular brand (Adler) and it was $25 or $30 and works great.

That is ridiculous, taking your money and sitting on it for all that time, knowing they were not getting your product out for that long. Completely unacceptable business practice.

I remember your original post. So glad that they at least offered you a refund.

wow, no. That's not the right way to do business. It should clearly be communicated beforehand that it's a backorder before you hit submit, and in that case you shouldn't be billed until the item is ready to be shipped. They're going to have a lot of angry customers if they're taking weeks to get through the orders they have. I'm glad you got your refund.

I simply want the adorable color. Ever since we moved here and I was able to design my wonderful craft room, nothing enters it unless its the perfect color. Yes, I know I could go find an old typewriter but I want to be impractical and have the really cute one. I think I will actually use it quite often for journaling. Yes, I think CraftDirect should not be taking orders nor charging credit cards before they have the item to ship.

You can buy an amazing quality mint or light aqua vintage typewriter for a bit more than the WRMK new. Many have even found mint/aqua ones for a bargain on Craigslist and by going to yard sales. There are other options that might fit the bill for you. Good luck!

Try Embellishonline.com.
It's a family owned business. They have great business practices.

Karma in the universe is telling you to avoid this product. Personally I feel that everyone should cancel, then cause a clearance glut on the market and pay $25 which is probably what it is worth. It should be illegal to charge you for a product they don't actually have unless you know you are preordering prior to release date.

Very bad business practice. I wouldn't deal with that company again. I had something similar happen with a scrapbooking company and I won't be purchasing from them again.
