This is totally my fault. I should have checked my emails. I just noticed that Hawaiian Airlines changed our flight. It departs two hours earlier. Which means I we have a 4 hour layover in Honolulu. I called today to see if they could put us on an earlier flight which they could but it would be a $30 change fee PLUS the difference of the cost of the airfare. They gave us 14 days to switch after they sent the email out and it's been 28 days. So they won't help me.
I wonder if 4 hours in Honolulu is long enough time to show the kids Waikiki? Jen

Depends on the traffic. Waikiki has horrible traffic. I actually like the Honolulu airport for strolling around though

i don't think so. by the time you get out of the airport and weave through traffic getting to Waikiki, it will be time to get back in traffic and go through security to get back to you gates.

If you only have 4 hours total I would not leave the airport. You need to reclear security, etc and with Honolulu traffic it won't be worth it. The airport has several very nice shops and some good eats too. Several parts are open air, so just sitting "outside" in the airport is nice too.

There are a few places closer to the airport, like you can drive by the Arizona memorial and the Pearlridge area of Honolulu if you want to get out of the airport, but no beaches. Traffic going in that direction is not as bad as heading into downtown Honolulu, but it all depends on what time you are there too. Rush hour traffic going in both directions is terrible. Since you won't have bags to check, getting back through security at the Hawaiian Airlines terminal isn't too bad. And the Hawaiian Airlines terminal does have some shops and good eating places.
