What is everyone working on? Anything new to share this month? I'm attempting a bit of Tunisian crochet, I've done ten rows of this shawl so far Woolpedia shawlI had to restart it five times before I figured out what was going on If anyone does Tunisian crochet do you have any tips? I'm finding the fabric is coming out a lot denser than I would like. Save

I received a new sewing machine for Christmas but haven't had a minute to sit down and try it out!

Finished a Wurm hat last night from a Yarn Bee blend of acrylic and alpaca. Nice and warm!

I thought I missed the messy bun hat fad, but I was asked to make a couple. I'm working on the first one from a new to me pattern in black. My eyes already hate this yarn.

I just finished a baby sweater and hat. I'm about to start another.
Lainey, I bought a set of Tunisian hooks a while back, but I haven't taken the time to learn it yet.

One of my DDs wants a arm crotchet blanket. Not sure I want to take that on as the yarn is pricey and I'm thinking I would get too hot working on it. Winter is the time to try though.

Mainly working on the baby blanket. I thought I'd get lots done over the Christmas break but I was feeling under the weather and didn't have much enthusiasm TBH.
I cast on my first attempt at knitting a sock. I've got an odd 50g of sock yarn that I'm sacrificing to it - fully expect to have to frog it a few times for errors and fit. I'm only about 5 rounds in so far! Not at all sure how I feel about such small needles, or DPNs in general yet...
I got the yarn pack for the Attic24 Coast Ripple crochet blanket for Christmas and I really want to start on that, but am resisting until I'm within sight of the end of baby blanket or the latter will never get done.
I'm slow compared to most of you so not much changes from month to month!

Our new little dog needed a drastic haircut and the poor thing gets so cold with the wicked freezing temps we have here. I've been looking for DIY fleece dog sweater patterns online. I had all these scraps of fleece and flannel left over from making DD nightgowns and PJ pants that I didn't want to throw away, and now I'm glad I didn't because they'll be just big enough to make some warm stuff for the dog!

I'm only about 5 rounds in so far! Not at all sure how I feel about such small needles, or DPNs in general yet... You might try the magic loop method for this instead of DPN - I found it so liberating. The secret is to get a good circular needle that will allow the stitches to slip easily from one needle to the other and the cable will not kink on you. I made two pairs of mittens for an online friend who helped me out in a bad situation on Swap Bot. Now I am trying to get the socks done that I started before the mittens. I have one sock done of two pairs. Don't know how that happened. But now I need to knit the second sock for each pair. Only, I got a sore thumb from a cut that is trying to fester. So it will be a few days before I can knit again. Save

My daughter wants one, but she wants really bulky yarn. Bigger than what the stores carry. Where dies one find really big yarn?

I made a quick sleep mask for DD(10) yesterday - she's lost the one I made a couple of years ago and doesn't sleep well without it

I'm knitting up a pair of gloves for my sister that I promised a month or so ago. If my desktop hadn't crashed, if I hadn't bought this new laptop/tablet, I would probably be almost done with it already. I need to put the new toy down and knit. After that is done, I have an order for knee-high socks minus the flowers. And then on to getting my sewing going again. My previous sewing machine died (think it was the motor, DH might tinker with it in the future) and I picked up a new one thanks to JoAnn's holiday sales. I've only used it a handful of times so I'm looking forward to playing with it more. My to do list for the month is long...
Maybe I can share pictures on here more easily.

Does anyone have a favorite, no-frills knitted sock pattern they'd like to share? Sock knitting is something I'd like to tackle this year.

I'm sewing soft shoes for babies. I'm a bit addicted to it. My 9 mo old has like 6 pairs and my 5 year old has 2 pairs of ones I had to create the pattern for. I love making them! I MIGHT try and make my own.

Does anyone have a favorite, no-frills knitted sock pattern they'd like to share? Sock knitting is something I'd like to tackle this year. Paton's has a few very basic sock directions in baby, kid, and adult sizes. That's the base for nearly all of my socks.

I'm making a simple quilt with a layer cake. The top is almost done and then I need to reread some tutorials for basting and machine quilting. I still need to buy fabric for the binding too.
Tunisian crochet is on my crafty bucket list for sure. Maybe next year!

I'm working on another square for the Christmas blanket. I opted for one of alternate squares which is a candy cane. No photos yet.

I'm not getting a lot done right now. I packed several projects for this vacation, but between the weather here (HOT!) and visiting everyone who we need to catch up with, including eating out and not getting home until late, I haven't found much time. When I do get time, I'm working on a simple garter stitch shawl, because it doesn't need much thinking to keep the pattern straight.

I cant vouch for the results (because yeah, just 5 rounds in) but I'm doing mine using the tutorial on this blog: winwickmum.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/sockalong-yarns.html (that's the first post in the series, rest are linked from there). She takes you right through step by step, with separate instructions for different needle options. So far I've found it really clear and helpful, as it is geared to a total sock novice.

I'm knitting a scarf (for myself) and it has a cable going up the center (my first attempt at cabling). It took about 10 tries to get it started but it's starting to get long enough to curl now... I'm not sure I want it to curl but it's too late to change the pattern... the first 3 stitches on the sides are garter stitch so I'm not sure what's going on... oh well I'm going to wear it anyway!

Does anyone have a favorite, no-frills knitted sock pattern they'd like to share? Sock knitting is something I'd like to tackle this year. I started with Silver's sock class. It has instructions for top down and toe up, one or two at a time, dpns or circular needles, so you can try things out and decide what you like best. I now make nearly all my socks top down, magic loop, because I can almost make them in my sleep. Once you master a basic sock, there are lots of ways to jazz them up.

My only craft project so far this year was a shirt I embroidered for my cousins daughter. She is having another baby this spring so I made her oldest dd a shirt! The word BE is sparkly vinyl.

Also, for all the crocheters out there I saw the cutest project on facebook. It's a weather chart blanket. Every day of the year you crochet a line of stitches. The color you use depends on the temp that day. There were like 8 temperature brackets all with a corresponding color. The blanket or scarf ends up being 365 lines long. It was so neat! I wish I knew how to crochet! The gal who made the sample blanket also stuck in a line of pink in the middle to represent the day her granddaughter was born!

I got a serger for Christmas and I have been reading the books, watching videos and studying the machine and have yet to step on the peddle to make a stitch. This weekend I must go from tentative novice to a serging tornado because I have 4 commissions I can crank out with this serger IF I can use it properly!

I've made a few Tunisian stitch afghans and they are nice and warm when complete since there aren't any gaps in the pattern. For a shawl, maybe use a finer yarn? Finer might not be the right word. More airy? I'd love to see some pics I was thinking a thinner yarn or a bigger hook would work? I like how the pattern is looking but it will be far too stiff for a shawl if I continue. SaveLet's see if this works. I don't post photos very often. This was made using Red Heart Super Saver yarn. My Dad made me an extra long crochet hook (he was a tool & die maker and so I gave him a sample of a shorter hook and he made a longer one using that as a sample).
