We've been discussing the paper and the embellies and sticker options, but wondering what trends you are seeing and using when putting a page together?
I have been seeing--and using--a lot of circles lately. Also using PL cards on traditional pages.
Also noticing that the clusters are much flatter than in the past: clusters of paper elements instead of the poofy flowers and other "fat" pieces.
Less inking, maybe? Not seeing as much of the darker colours, maybe. Loving the softer inks blended into backgrounds for PL cards and scenes for pages and cards.
Still seeing lots of artsy splatters over the "white space" on pages on blogs and on Pinterest. That is a look I love, but don't use nearly as much as my ink/paint stash would lead you to believe.
What are you noticing for techniques and styles out there? Which ones have you attempted? What would you LIKE to do?

Love this thread! I feel like I am in a bit of a rut so I will be watching.
I definitely agree that I'm seeing pages with more paper layering as opposed to other more dimensional elements. This is a real saver in terms of album space!
Things seem lighter and brighter than we've seen in the past...especially at the height of the distress craze.
I like that it really seems like everything goes right now...I've collected enough supplies representing trends from years past that I think I have a lot of freedom to create pages based upon whatever suits the mood of the photos best.
I really like the idea of using PL cards on traditional pages...I need to get better at doing this because I have a serious over-abundance of these cards!

My pages are definitely flatter and cleaner than they used to be. Back in the day every edge HAD to be inked before it could hit the page! I do like the look of those splatters on a page....when somebody else does it! I either get too much or not enough. Worse yet they splotch instead of splatter. So, consequently,I don't attempt it often because I'm afraid to ruin a page I like.
My colors are also fresher and brighter than my Tim Holtz phase. I still like the look of distressed things but it all requires so much work. It definitely works for pages with vintage pics but not my everyday photos.

I pretty much only see what I'm doing, and what I am doing is clustering photos to the center and then having the outer part of the page as a frame and space to show the patterned paper and embellishments.

Personally, I am using fewer photos on my layouts. I am trying to be more selective. I am also trying to create fewer pages. I don't need 6 pages for each event.

I am using fewer photos and making less pages as well. Trying to tell the story while knowing the rest of the photos are backed up and easily available . My layouts are all over the place as far as technique and style- just depends on how I feel that day, I think larger patterns an white space with layering are more of a thing now.

Love this thread!
I'm seeing a lot of loud, bright color. Like a previous poster mentioned, it's like the opposite of the distressed trend.
I think a lot of things lean toward the kawaii trend. All smiles. Lots of happy. Animals with personality. Big eyes. Emojis. Reminds me a lot of things from Japan. And also Shopkins.
What I'm using a lot of?
Feathers. Dreamcatcher, Aztec designs in non-traditional colors.
I haven't jumped on with the cacti, yet, though.

I haven't inked anything in years, too lazy I guess.
Definitely less distressing (yay) and grunge (double yay). The problem with distressed pattern paper (for me) is it usually doesn't work when you cut the paper because the distressed part is around the edges or doesn't match the non-distressed patterned paper I also want to use on the layout. I have the same problem with patterned paper with texture (Carta Bella) not going with other patterned papers from other companies.

I'be never really been into distressing or inking edges in scrapping I guess, but I also notice even 'cleaner' pages - few embellishments and what I use is flatter, simpler designs. That's one thing that has made me rethink what I buy.
