My instant pot says do not use oats because of the foaming issue and it could damage your IP. But, I see all the recipes - someone with experience please tell me the real deal. Thanks,

I've done steel cut oats and they were great.

I've only done the steel cut oats. Those are fine in the IP. I'm going to avoid regular rolled oats. I prefer the texture of steel cut anyway.

Natural pressure release and foaming shouldn't be an issue.
I do steel-cut, pot-in-pot, 20 minutes high pressure, 10 minutes NPR.

They also have a recipe for steel cut oats in the cookbook that comes with the pot. I think that warning is just a way to cover their behinds when someone overfills their pot with the items that foam.

Cooking oats in electric pressure cookers is wonderful.
Even if there was some foaming, it wouldn't damage your IP. All you do is rinse the valve area of your lid under the sink.

Yep to what everyone already said. I cook steel cut oats often. Ten minutes and then NPR, totally fine. I love steel cut oats but never made them before the IP because who wants to stand at the stove doing all that stirring? Now I put them on, go walk my dog, and when I come home my breakfast is ready.

I do steel cut oats in the IP often and they turn out amazing every time, and no issues with foaming even when doubling the recipe. 1 tablespoon butter 1 cup steel cut oats 4 cups water 1/4 cup cream 3 tablespoons light brown sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 1. Add butter to pressure cooking pot, select Sauté. When butter is melted add the oats and toast, stirring constantly, until they smell nutty, about 3 minutes. 2. Add water, cream, brown sugar and salt. Select high pressure and set 10 minutes cook time. 3. When beep sounds, turn off pressure cooker and use a natural pressure release for 10 minutes and then do a quick pressure release to release any remaining pressure. When valve drops carefully remove lid. 4. Stir oats and add any fresh fruit. Cover and let sit an additional 10 minutes. Adapted from this recipe.

I haven't tried them in my Instant pot yet. But every morning for breakfast I put 2 cups of rolled oats 4 cups of water and a pinch of salt in a big glass bowl and throw it in the microwave for 5 minutes. Perfect, easy breakfast every morning. Jen

I think that warning is just a way to cover their behinds when someone overfills their pot with the items that foam. I was going to say that. Also the 'porridge' setting umm all the things they list not to cook in there are some type of 'porridge' lol

My take on that was no instant oatmeal but the other kind is ok. I haven't tried either yet, so take it for what it is worth.

The oats worked perfectly, used steel cut oats, but they were a little bland. So I need to work on adding flavor.

We do them in a bowl in the IP. Set it up the night before & the oats are ready after our shower in the morning. We use a bowl because he eats his share from it & it is easy clean up! We just use oats & water in the IP. We each add our own brown sugar and cream to our bowls.

I do steel cut every week with 10 minutes natural release.
I made oats with walnuts, apples, cherries and a touch of coconut this morning and it was great.
