When I had them, I loved them - gave them to XH in the divorce.
A friend of my DS got caught up in sales for them (not knowing what the job was) the summer between HS and college. He called me and asked if he could come a do a demo. When I told the husband, he wasn't pleased--didn't want to spend money on what he thought was a sales scheme. At one point I sold Tupperware and he worked retail, so I thought we could be a good "starter" presentation for my sons' friend. Told husband we are under no obligation, just to listen and perhaps critique him. Husband absolutely loved the knives, and spent way more than I would have on a lot of knives, and he used them daily. Found out after that his sister and brother both had them for years. As much as I liked them, I willingly gave them up when I moved out - I don't cook all that much anymore.
Go for it!

They're good, expensive knives? I had no clue. We inherited a set of steak knives from my inlaws when they passed away 6-7 yrs ago. They're around here someplace. I guess I should try to find them and actually use them! If needed you can send them in to be sharpened up as good as brand new. Husband sold them them in high school, we got a set as a wedding gift. They are great, still going much stronger than the marriage after 22 years!

I have several knives.. and they will come by and sharpen for free once a year (at least here). I got the peeler and the can opener too.. and they are wonderful.. easy and safe. I have about 4 cutco knives and they are wonderful.. my cheapo dad has some too.. and he loves them. he cooks for himself every day.. so really uses them.

I am still annoyed that a couple of years ago, someone lost one of the steak knives. How the heck does that even happen? I need to order a replacement but just haven't gotten around to it. I lost one of mine (the one I got from my mom as a replacement when she passed away) and figure it somehow got thrown in the trash. Stuff happens. I have lost my bread knife AND the big carving knife. I was certain that I lent the big knife to someone one day but when I asked her about it recently she said she didn't have it. I am hoping one or the other will turn up when I de-clutter my kitchen.

I've had mine 30 years now and I love them. They have never been sharpened and still cut great. I bought them from my brother who sold them in college and while I choked a bit on the cost, I have never regretted it.

We are a Cutco family! Mom and Dad have had their set since the 1960s, and they are still going strong. I have had my set for 27 years. LOVE them, and I have never needed another knife set.

My parents bought a set of knives and serving accessories in the 60's - they STILL use them, they are still sharp. They recently mailed in a serving spoon which had a cracked handle, the company replaced the spoon under the lifetime guarantee. Mom recommends them highly.

LOVE Cutco ! I too agreed to a demo by a friend's son. Never thought I would buy any. Well, an hour later and about $1,000 I bought a butcher block set with 9 various knives plus 8 steak knives. Best money I've ever spent and knives are still super sharp after 20 years. During my kitchen remodel about 10 years ago, I included in my budget Cutco Silverware; I actually have the white handles. They come in black, white and I think all metal too. Treat yourself ! It's an investment.

I only have a couple as I just purchased some Wuesthoff knives before my friend's son came to give a presentation. Well I bought a few because I felt guilty and they are the most used knives I own. I would definitely consider buying more in the future. But they are pricey!

we have a set of steak knives we bought 25 years ago from a friend whose son started selling them. they are not the most aesthetically beautiful knives but they are great for cutting. they have that ergo handle so they are easy to hold. we still have them to this day.

I didn't believe it but they are amazing. My mom and sister swear by them. I have a couple - they are $$$ but worth it! They do a demo up here with the kitchen scissor and cut a penny into a spiral. Wow. I have been on the hunt for a good set of kitchen shears ever since my pampered chef ones broke... They were amazing! I'm not even going to lie. I tried them and it was like cutting butter....the penny was like paper to cut.

I will also say the Cutco office is in Calgary - 2 hours away. They told me to call them and they would come to my place to sharpen my knives anytime I needed.

Obviously there are a lot of people who love their knives they've had for many years, so I hate to be a buzzkill, but the Cutco sales model targets and, in my opinion, takes advantage of college students and those who can least afford it. You can do some googling on your own to find more info, but here's a few links: scambust.org/avoid-the-cutco-scam-in-2016/ clantilyscad.com/2010/07/13/the-cult-of-cutco-how-vector-marketing-mass-hires-students-into-dubious-contract-labor/ www.stealthsecrets.com/cutco-review-legit-knives-but-vector-scam/Prepare yourself for a pitch of spending $1K at a minimum. There are plenty of great knives on the market that cost way less, and the key is keeping them sharpened. If you want great knives, buy something else for your money. If you want to support your nephew, give him a gift with the money you saved not buying Cutco and educate him on "network marketing." It probably is a hard lesson he has to learn himself, but don't feel like you're doing him some big favor or helping him launch a lucrative career by buying over-priced knives. Most people end up out at least several hundred dollars when it's all said and done.

I bought mine 15+ years ago. The large white handle set.
My dh had a heart attack when he saw the charge on the credit card. However, he's the one that orders the new knife's if he thinks we need an add on.
