My nephew just called, asking to book a demo for these knives. I reluctantly agreed to it, so now I want to do my homework before he comes so I know if they're any good or not. I refuse to buy any if they're junk...even if he IS my nephew. Any experience with this brand? I've never even heard of them before.

Oh! I'd *love* to have some cutco knives. We had one of our youth group kids come do a presentation for us. (They do get paid for doing presentations even if you don't buy.) But we just couldn't afford it....not even one knife. I think if you dig on the internet you can get an idea of products and costs ahead of time so you can know what you're getting into.

Many many years ago – like about 20 years ago!! – I agreed to book a demo with a friend’s BIL so he could practice. Well of course I got sucked into buying a set of knives. My friend was shocked, she told me that I wasn’t supposed to buy anything, I was just supposed to let her BIL practice on me! Anyway, they cost me a lot of money. I’m pretty sure it was over $400 even that long ago. I got a set of 6 knives and a bonus pair of sewing scissors, which I actually needed as well.
The only thing that was a bit of a negative for me is that you can’t sharpen the knives yourself, you have to take them to Cutco to get them sharpened. But in all that time I’ve never had to sharpen them anyway. They are very good knives, it just depends on whether you want to fork *haha* out that kind of money.

Love love love my Cutco knives and the only reason I have any are because when my son was in college he was selling them - he needed someone to do his spiel on and me, my mother and brother all were his victims (just kidding) but we all bought some. Then 8 years later my niece was starting college and started selling them and we all let her do her spiel on us and of course we bought
I've had mine for 18 and 10 years and love them so much

This is the set that I bought 20 years ago: All Knife Set with TrayIt is actually a 5 piece not 6 like I mentioned in my other post. It looks like they don;t have the sewing scissors anymore.

I bought a pair of their kitchen shears years ago. They come apart to clean them. I love them and use them all the time.

Bought a set when I got my first real job in 1970. They cost me $115 and I paid $5 a month to pay them off. Still have those same knives and they are awesome. The handles are made from the material bowling balls are made from. At least mine are. My set had 6 knives, two turning forks, a spatula, 2 spoons - one slotted, a whisk, 8 steak knives, a sharpener and a free set of dishes as a bonus! My mom also had Cutco knives that she bought in the 50's. I still have one of her knives.

I didn't believe it but they are amazing. My mom and sister swear by them. I have a couple - they are $$$ but worth it! They do a demo up here with the kitchen scissor and cut a penny into a spiral.

They're good, expensive knives? I had no clue. We inherited a set of steak knives from my inlaws when they passed away 6-7 yrs ago. They're around here someplace. I guess I should try to find them and actually use them!

Love my Cutco knives. When the catalogue comes, I always feel like I should order another, even though I don't need any more.

I don't have any myself but I've heard nothing but good things about them. The name amuses me, though - Cutco sounds like one of those crappy knockoff brands you'd get in a discount store.

I LOVE my Cutco! I just had a knife replaced because I melted the handle (don't ask). We have quite a few pieces and they are still sharp.

Wow. I have been on the hunt for a good set of kitchen shears ever since my pampered chef ones broke...

We have a chefs knife and the scissors. The chefs knife is great, but the scissors are AMAZING. Love that they come apart and the would likely cut your finger off if you gave them half a chance. Would replace them with another set if something ever happened to them.

I got rid of all but the spreader. I think they are ugly. I prefer my Calaphon with the black handles. Had them for years and my husband keeps them sharp for me.

I bought my Cutco knives, serveware and kitchen scissors for my DH as a wedding present 33+ years ago. My mother has had her set since she and my dad were married back in 1961. Cutco products are excellent! You get what you pay for

If you have the $ to spare, get the Chef's knife. I use that one and the bread knife every day. Amazing.

I have a fairly large set and I love them! I don't like the Chef's knife, however. The tip is way, way too sharp. I got myself a small suntoku style instead (also cutco) and I love that one and use it instead of the chef's knife.
I know a lot of foodie people look down on Cutco (for whatever reason), but, I love mine and feel they are worth every penny. My mom has had hers for over 30 years and still uses them daily.

I have the steak knives, a paring knife and the pizza cutter. I wish I had an entire set of them. I had to send the paring knife back last year (after 15 years of using it)because the handle broke. I paid the shipping and they sent me a brand new knife. The old one was still sharp when I sent it back. I am still annoyed that a couple of years ago, someone lost one of the steak knives. How the heck does that even happen? I need to order a replacement but just haven't gotten around to it.

Plus, if you purchase Cutco, you're supporting a manufacturer in a small town in the Southern Tier of NYS. Totally "Made in America!"
