So we got 6-7 inches of snow last night. While that is not unusual for us we are still a southern town, we get one or two significant snow falls a winter and everything shuts down. One of my daughters friends is spending the night with us tonight while her parents stay at a downtown hotel for their anniversary. Last night they said they were going to postpone.. this morning they said they might still stick to their plans. They'll let me know So my daughter and I are cleaning the inside of our house, and have done nothing about the snow, in the driveway, on the porch. So I say if they come our drive way won't be clear, but I expected to clear our porch and walk to minimize the snow. They text that they are literally a minute away. So no time to clear the snow off the porch, I grab a couple of towels because our rug at the front door is in the dryer. They were supposed to come at 3 and it was like 1.30... They get here boots covered in snow.. and the daughter forgetting she has a back pack on knocks over everything on the table in my entry way, including one of those oil diffuser things with the sticks in it. So there is oil all over the entry... including two boxes of books I ordered for work. So no problem.. these things happen... Mom leaves... like 10 minutes later I am still cleaning up the oil.. it went everywhere. Mom is knocking at the door they are stuck in our driveway... do we have a shovel? I get dressed and go get the shovel.. which I didn't not have the foresight to get out last night so I have to leg it through like 10 inch drifts to get it out of the shed. Then I see... that they did not drive their HUGE 4x4 truck, they drove her tiny audi convertible?? That is my vent. I am sure for many places 6 inches of snow is nothing.. but for us in this part of North Carolina where it is very hilly and twisty turny it is a big deal.... I just wanted to say.. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??? Luckily my friendly neighbors... our local fire station.. saw us struggling and came and got the car out. Two of them helped me shovel enough to get my car out. Now the girls are baking brownies to take over there. But honestly I do not understand how people can be so illogical. Do you have a weather related vent? OR just any vent?

We went to the store yesterday, but I refused to buy milk or bread even though we were out. A woman got the last loaf of white bread, and another woman took it out of her cart when she turned her back. People are nuts!

We're in New England, currently getting 12-18"...even in 6 inches i'd take the SUV vs the Audi convertible. They had a serious lack of common sense this morning Well at least there are going to be brownies at your house, yum!

In some ways, living in the snow belt has its advantages when the snowstorm is actually predicted

The storms coming through are going to be so bad that church is canceled. You guys, Mormons canceled church. For the whole region. It's all Armageddon around here.
My husband had spent the last four hours trying to get the roof completely cleared off so the new snow doesn't make it collapse or (more likely) leak.
So fun. We haven't had a winter like this in years.

Wow, that is extremely rude! What is wrong with people, anyway!
Stay safe everyone! I've been snowed in for several days. No idea when I will be able to get out, as I struggle to do the shoveling. It is snowing seriously now, with more to come tomorrow. This is a crazy winter!

Wow, no common sense. I validate your irritation! Who would choose to NOT take the truck?

I'm in Boise. This is CRAZY! 16" on the ground already with another 6"-12" expected for the weekend. Our neighborhood didn't get plowed for some reason so we literally were out shoveling/blowing the street this morning while it was zero degrees. It's currently snowing so hard. We planned to go to breakfast in the morning and the grocery store as usual - hopefully people didn't go nuts and shelves are empty. This is so unlikely for Boise and we aren't prepared for it.

I shopped twice yesterday (SW Washington) and things seemed normal, even Costco. Only issue I had was finding a decent snow shovel and car scraper/brush at Home Depot. I did see that broccoli was down to two heads which was strange but everything else seemed normal. I am seeing FB posts that it is a different scene today.

Those women are clueless about pre blizzard shopping. Everyone knows that wine and chocolate are staples!

Those women are clueless about pre blizzard shopping. Everyone knows that wine and chocolate are staples! Right??? The only time I ever bought Pringles was for hurricanes. A friend told me that they were a godsend when Ivan hit Cayman so every single year I bought Pringles for the hurricane supplies. Wine and chocolate are always on my list. Yesterday I went to Trader Joe's to get said wine and chocolate and forgot the wine! Had to go back out and remedy that!

My snow related vent is two-fold: 1. We were supposed to get 4" of snow. Instead, we got 2" of solid ice. I'd rather have the snow any day. 2. I spent about 30 minutes chipping said ice off of my car - where I park, my car is shaded by my condo building, so I couldn't even open my door. It was 2-3" thick with ice, all the way around. Finally chip my way out...and the businesses I tried to go to were all closed anyway. LOL! I really wanted a pedicure! Or chick fil a. And had a return to a boutique. All closed. I finally just got Starbucks, drove home and chipped the ice off my back windshield. I'm over winter.

I think is is less of a snow vent and one of an inconsiderate person vent.
The store thing does irk me and make me laugh at the same time. I mean realistically we could survive on just the food that is already in my house for weeks. Why I feel the need to go to the store right before a store, I have no idea.

We haven't had a winter like this in years. It's definitely another weird one here in MN too. It's now January and there is less than 6-8" of snow covering most of our yard. What we have gotten is blistering cold weather that seemingly never ends. Which wouldn't be all that terrible, except we just adopted this tiny little dog that was matted up so bad that she had to be shaved almost down to the skin, and even with little clothes on the poor little thing freezes her butt off every time she has to go out. I hate it for her!

I did read (full disclosure on FB) that you could use a solution of water and rubbing alcohol to melt the ice... people were saying it was quick. I made sure I had some incase we got the ice... luckily our temps dropped yesterday that it was all snow.
