It premieres this weekend, I think... I've seen a few commercials for it, and it looks interesting. I liked all the Dan Brown books and movies that are set in and around Vatican City, so I think I'd maybe I'll enjoy seeing the religious insider intrigue and all the pomp and circumstance, sets, costuming, etc.
(doesn't hurt that it's Jude Law, either! )

I have it set on my DVR. I'm also interested in the Diane Keaton character.

I love Jude Law, and Diane Keaton so I was planning to watch it. I saw a preview for it and it looks interesting. j
I didn't realize it was based on a Dan Brown book-haven't seen any of the movies based on his books previously yet.

No, it's not based on one of his books. The OP was saying the subject matter of the TV program might grab her interest as Dan Brown's books do, and I agreed. Hope that's clear.

Oh, thanks for clearing this up. I was reading it too quickly I guess. As a Catholic I'm interested in seeing this series. I did see a very short blurb last night while I was searching through Amazon Prime on one side of the screen and HBO was between shows on the right side of the screen. They were talking about this upcoming series "The Young Pope" and how much work went into the costume making for the film-how much of it was made by hand and how meticulous it was. Jude Law was saying a "Thank You" to Rome for welcoming him with such warmth and friendliness.

It looks really interesting, although Jude Law is kind of creeping me out in the previews.

np!! Sorry I wasn't clear in my original post about the fact that it's NOT based on a Dan Brown book, but that I like them, so I hope I will like this, too. I do agree; Jude Law is playing the part really creepy. And I only saw one clip with Diane Keaton, so I forgot she's in it, too... it will be interesting to see her character.
The synapsis I read about it-- him being such a young Pope-- and his wanting to take the church back to the days of exclusivity and a bit of fear, and his power-tripping (seen in the scene where he forces the Cardinal to kiss his shoe, I think?) make it look really interesting. I hope it will be the kind of intrigue I like.

I just didn't care about whatever the storyline was... Jude Law's character wasn't likeable at all. Obviously that's how he wanted to play it, but he was so unlikeable I'm not going to watch any more of it.

So disappointing! I watched episode 1, gave up part way through 2. Although it was occasionally humorous it was slow moving and all over the place. Too bad; I really like the way it was filmed and the sets and costuming.

We watched the first two episodes and on the fence at this point. The premise is good, but the show just has not hooked us yet.

Well damn. Those reviews from you guys don't bode well for the show. I didn't know about it, saw a commercial and was planning to watch on demand because Jude Law has been my real husband since "The Talented Mr. Ripley".

I was just bored, can't see any real storyline. I'd be happy to hear from anyone that liked it, though. Maybe I'm missing something.

I really WANTED to like it, also because of the costuming and locales. Maybe I should have given it another episode or two to get into it; it just didn't catch my attention enough. But there's enough other stuff I want to watch but don't have time for, I doubt I'll give it another go.

it's just really slow. the adversarial relationship with the guy with the mole is interesting but they just need to pick up the tempo. it doesn't need to be "24" but it can't be like watching cement set either.

oh, the guy with the mole! I'm sorry, but that is NOT something I want to see in a close-up on a 65 inch television screen, lol!

I don't get the attraction to Jude Law. Not only do I not find him physically attractive, he's one of those people who has cheated on their partner with the nanny. Yuck.
