Based on a true story, it's set in 1945 post-war Poland. A young Red Cross doctor is called to secretly help at a convent whose nuns had been raped and impregnated by Russian troops. Incredibly life-affirming! Beautifully produced - it's in French so you have to pay attention to the subtitles! If you see it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

It's on Amazon Prime-and I agree it is a must watch film. Everything about it is impeccably done. The music, the cinematography-the scenes of the nun walking through the snow filled forest with the bare trees are so soul stirring, the acting, the writing-it is perfection. It will tug at your heart and soul.
Another great film on Prime is "Remember" also a film with subtitles. It is about a two men in a retirement home. They are both Jewish, one is quite busy and works with Simon Wisenthal (sp?) tracking down Nazi War criminals still at large. But he is in a wheel chair so he can't go anywhere easily. His friend is still able to move about freely, but he has a wife who is in the home with him. He promises his friend in the wheelchair that once Rosie dies, he will help him track down the Nazi who killed both of their families (they were together in Auschwitz). Through the man's work who is in the wheelchair he knows the Nazi's assumed name and where he thinks he lives although there are 6 men with that name in the area. Great, suspenseful film.

Thanks for suggesting this! I hope I can turn off subtitles. They distract me to no end.

you had me until subtitles...I knit while I watch tv. Darn it! That's usually my deal breaker, too! Honestly, it's worth it. I had my laptop right in front of me while I made a rag rug at my kitchen island. Luckily, the storyline is not very complicated and The subtitles are very succinct.
