I did this post years ago on the other board.. It was a hit. I loved reading what things people drove by on their commute to work. There was some great answers. Reason why I posted it then, it that in one day I saw so many 'different' things that day and it hit me... I bet other people have cool views, scenes, etc.
So my commute isn't as exciting as years ago but here are some things I have seen or I see everyday:
Mountains all around me. I have to drive across Denver two days a week, and instead of going right through Denver I take the outer highways and I end up right by the foothills. So pretty right now with all the snow we are getting.
On my old commute, it was crazy. I had to take DD to sitters way out in the country: So I would have to wait for a train most days, get behind a tractor about once a month, pass a house that raised peacocks, then on my way to work I would be right behind Denver International Airport (which is pretty) and see all the planes (I LOVE planes), then pass a buffalo sanctuary and see buffaloes about once a week or so.
So not that exciting I guess except seeing peacocks and buffaloes... but the views in the morning could be breathtaking with the mountains and sun coming up.

My commute is on interstate-10 between the town of Casa Grande and the Phoenix valley... I see glorious sunrises and sunsets over the mountains regularly... it's a really picturesque stretch of highway with hills, Saguaro cacti, brush, and a dry riverbed. If I'm really lucky, I will see wild horses along the highway. Occasionally I also see wild / range-roaming cattle; it's pretty wacky to see a cow standing in among the cacti and brush right next to the interstate!!  (thankfully there IS a fence, though... otherwise that could be bad.) |

My commute is only about 8 minutes longer, there's not much to see. BUT without fail, every time it rains there's a car flipped upside down on the on ramp to the second freeway I take. People always take it too fast and the road is slippery so inevitably someone ends up upside down.

My commute is the Brooklyn Queens Expressway to either the Long Island Expressway or the Grand Central Parkway. For as annoying as traffic can be here I love some of the things I see on the drive:
- The Manhattan Skyline from Queens
- The Skyline again by the East River
- The Brooklyn, Manhattan and 59th Street Bridges
- The Newtown Creek between Brooklyn and Queens
- Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows Corona Park
- The 1964 Worlds Fair Unisphere in Queens
- The Arthur Ashe Tennis Center
- LaGuardia Airport
And believe it or not this drive is typically only about 50 minutes (should be 30 but what can you do).

My drive is about 45-70 minutes (depending on the time) from downtown Houston to the suburbs. Nothing beautiful or exciting, except concrete. I do see some "interesting" people though.....nose pickers, erratic dancers and headbangers, people looking at their damn phone while traveling at high speeds in traffic, children not in carseats jumping around the car, people smoking weed, road rage, etc.

I also pass by a buffalo farm every morning and every evening. It's not a large herd, maybe 35-45, but there are two white buffalo, which I understand are pretty rare.

I've had several different commutes over the past years. One took me straight through downtown DC early in the morning. I'd pass the Iwo Jima Memorial in Virginia then cross the river and drive by thee museums, the monuments, the White House, the Capitol....lovely. Then I had a commute down I-395. Not quite as nice visually but a heck of a lot faster to that hospital. I did pass by the Pentagon though. --Now I'm between hospitals and am only substitute teaching. That commute is a three-block walk and there's not much to see. Lol. Occasionally I'll see our local hawk and maybe some chipmunks.

We have a 20 minute commute from city into a rural area. One area has cattle, one day driving home we saw a newborn calf and mama. How did we know it was a newborn......the mama was eating the placenta as we drove by. I turned to DH when I saw her eating something pink and large and he concurred.

I take a bus. Same bus, same time, same driver every day. What's interesting is that I almost feel like I know the other six regulars on the bus every morning. It's the young girl who always plays Pokemon GO, it's the lady with the red hair who cut it short right before Christmas, it's the dad with the 3-year old son he takes to daycare (I saw the mom once! exciting day!), it's the angry guy and his girlfriend (not really angry, but he has an angry face, or BRF), it's the two boys who always gets followed to the bus stop by their dad (I was so sad when the youngest boy cut his amazing long, curly hair). These people fascinate me, beause it's gotten to the point where we nod to each other, and I can tell if they bought new clothes. I'm probably 'woman in dress and shoes not suitable for the weather'  And if I forget my buscard, the driver doesn't care. I gave him homemade Christmas cookies my last day on the bus before Christmas. People watching is FUN! |

I live in the country and the town I work in is transitioning from a cottage town to more of an urban hub. My drive is only 10 to 15 minutes and I see horses, often dogs running beside my truck, I drive by a very famous burger place, under an old orange CN rail bridge that carries foot traffic over the 4 lane highway to that burger place, gorgeous lake views and in the fall it's absolutely STUNNING. There are "cow on the highway" warnings about twice a year:).

i live just east of downtown toronto. when i worked downtown, i was a streetcar/subway ride each day (or to shake things up, streetcar/streetcar). just your standard city street views.
after i stayed home with #3 kid, my first job was 5 mins down the street from my house. i did that for 4.5 years. i walked past a catholic church so i often see the nuns in their habits (white and blue, not black). and i would stare daggers at the homes of my neighbours on the street who did not shovel the snow on the sidewalk. cuz i bet they felt totally intimidated by the lady staring down their home, shaking her head.
i got laid off from that job in july and was waiting to see if called back. it was perfect since so close and they worked around kids' schedule. nope, i am done-done.
HOWEVER, i just got a new job. my commute now from my bed to the computer. other than meetings, i work from home AND still works around kids schedules.
so on my commute i see all the craps my kids have left laying around from last night. lol!
eta: my kids do not *actually* leave craps all over my house. they do leave their assorted bits and bobs everywhere, and that is what i meant to say...

My commute is on hwy 101 between Ventura and Santa Barbara, CA. I see the Pacific Ocean, Channel Islands, dolphins , pelicans and cormorants almost daily.

I have a 15-30 minute commute in the suburbs, depending on traffic. On any given day, I see longhorns, deer, pelicans, and sometimes wild boars. I work on federal property that is also a wildlife refuge (and the longhorns are a project of the local school district). There are also Atwater prairie chickens and gators on the property, along with the regular wildlife of squirrels, skunks, possums, birds, turtles and snakes.
I get to drive past a space shuttle every day (granted, it was a trainer and never flew, but it's the only one you can tour and it's atop a shuttle carrier aircraft).

One day, I saw a dead cow, feet up in the back of a pickup truck just driving down the road.
Typically though I see wild turkeys who live in the field near my house, cows, and traffic. At my old job I used to see Lamp Dancer. he is a guy who dances in our downtown area with a lamp. He says he is bringing light to the world or something. He gets pretty dirty sometimes. But is always amusing.

I don't have a regular commute, but on days I go to the court I drive past MCAS Miramar and get treated to an airshow driving on the 15. I'd love to take photos but can't coordinate working the phone while driving.  Driving on the 5 through Camp Pendleton we are regularly treated to Marine training as well. SaveSaveSaveSave |

I work in Buffalo NY and drive in. It's not so much what I *see* that is cool, but what I *smell*.
Cheerios. General Mills makes cheerios here and you can smell them downtown.

no commute for me unless you count the walk to and from the girl's bus stops...depending on the day I've seen deer, raccoon, oppossums, squirrels, a gopher tortoise, rabbits, turkeys (we have about 2 dozen or so), even a fox
My older daughter's bus ride goes past a house with a (real) camel in the front yard...

I have had some interesting commutes in my day.
I took the train into central London for years..the view down the Thames never got boring.
I lived in the Cayman Islands and most of the time my commute was boring but for about a 6 mont period I was training staff at a hotel on the other side of the island.. I had about a 40 minute commute along the coast it was stunning.
Now I walk from my kitchen to computer.. so not exciting.. but I do take my daughter's car pool a couple mornings a week, and Asheville is surrounded by mountains and it is always beautiful. There are the best cloud formations by my daughters school, all the kids in the car pool (middle school are fascinated by them)
We also go across a bridge over the high way and get a rare view of the Biltmore House. (it was purposely built to be obscured from view until you arrived... they did not account for high way bridge.
As I drive around town there are 10 outstanding views that I never tire of and wish I could possibly do them justice with a phone or camera

My commute to work is literally four blocks. I live in a small town but in that four blocks I can sometimes tell you quite a bit about what is happening in our neck of the woods. If there has been an accident at the "big" stoplight then I see ambulances at the hospital or firetrucks returning to the station. We have two newsworthy murder cases happening in our area so if the news trucks are at the courthouse, there will be an update on the nightly news. And there's the disabled (I'm guessing) grandma and grandpa who ride scooters past my office everyday. I'm telling you what-they are ACTIVE! I'm guessing they watch a grandson because he pedals his heart out on one of those old Big Wheels that sits low to the ground. He's so adorable! I think he started school this year though because I don't see him with them nearly as often on weekdays.
In my more general being out and about....I live in Kentucky horse country. Everywhere I go is beautiful! Miles and miles of black fence and babies frolicking in the spring. It's awesome! I didn't grow up here, but I did grow up on a horse farm, so I have appreciated every single day of the last 15 years that I've had the opportunity to live here.

My commute is anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours from VA into DC. Most mornings the sun is rising behind George Washington's Masonic hall (whatever it is actually called). Then, up and over the Woodrow Wilson bridge where I can see the brightly lit ferris wheel at National Harbor or look up river and see the GW Monument. Then, I see traffic, traffic, traffic for 6 miles. When I pull into work, I see the Capital and boy does she look stunning with the scaffolding down.

I work in downtown Memphis. When NJ I get off the interstate and hit Riverside Drive from the south, it makes a curve and I have a beautiful view of the Mississippi River with the Hernando-DeSoto bridge off in the distance with the big pyramid behind it.

My commute varies between 20 minutes if the traffic is moving and dead stopped tunnel traffic. I don't go through the tunnel but I can't avoid the traffic that is. When I get to work the parking lot is right along the bay so there are often boats and ships there and sailboats in the evening in nice weather.
Along the way I do not pass anything I would call interesting. I don't even notice the dented guard rail where I totaled my car 3 years ago on the ice. It's pretty much just interstate.

I live in so cal so it is almost all concrete, strip malls and homes. Once in awhile I used to see a guy dressed like a mountain man walking a donkey beside the street. Other than, nothing too out of the ordinary. I get to see the ocean on my morning commute.

Mostly I see morons who do not know how to drive.
I commute from a north suburb of Minneapolis to a south suburb. In the summer I see orange cones and construction. In the winter I see random bumpers and car parts from the fender benders.
Can you tell I am sick of my commute?

I live in a very small town filled with an eclectic mix of people. On any given day I might see the Llama Lady who walks her Alpaca around her neighborhood. (Alpaca Lady just doesn't have the same ring.) or the gentleman who always wears a different full face mask as he has a serious allergy to the sun (George Bush is my personal favorite.), or Grandma Twitter who lives in Elder Housing down town walking her parakeet in its cage strapped into a baby stroller. We're like Stars Hollow on redneck steroids.

35 miles of country highway so I see deer, coyote, assorted birds... and an amazing house that goes ALL OUT for every holiday with thousands of lights and other decorations. They have a three bay garage behind their house that I imagine must be full of all of their decorations. Everything is red/white for Valentine's Day right now and after that they'll decorate green/white for St. Paddy's day. Such a nice break in an otherwise mundane commute.
