I always feel sad that the original inventor of the misti did not handle her ideas/ customers better or differently or whatever the problem was . She had SUCH a good idea and it really has become as much of a must have stamping tool as acrylic blocks Such a shame for her You are so sweet. Unlike you, I don't feel bad for her. I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. She was an overwhelmed, new entrepreneur. But she reaps what she sowed. Harassing & threatening crafters on message boards. What is her "patent pending" good for now?

Damn! anyone want to buy my precision press! LOL! I sure wish I had waited now because this has everything. I just might cave and grab it when it comes out. Just a note. I tried my precision press with both rubber and acrylic stamps and it works just fine. And cleaned up great with a baby wipe.

i just bought a Stampaholic a couple of months ago so I'm good for a while. I still want to check out the video tomorrow. It sounds like there are some interesting features.

I just bought the HA one too because my Misti is ready to crack into pieces any day. I haven't used it yet, and turns out I still have the receipt so I'm returning it this weekend. But if I couldn't return it I wouldn't have been too upset... price is good and it's smaller so I'd probably still use it for making cards.

Looks good. I'm very happy with my Stampoholic but would consider this if it needs replacing. Me too. I especially like how the grid is molded into the lid and how the lid flips to accommodate clear or rubber stamps. For the person who wants to stamp on an already completed 12x12 page, I think you would have better luck using this TH product than trying to freehand stamp because you can always restamp any uninked areas.

What was with the whole patent pending with the misti? Was she not able to or you can't patent scrapbook products?

What was with the whole patent pending with the misti? Was she not able to or you can't patent scrapbook products? I doubt if there was anything to patent, since the hinged printing press was invented by Gutenberg in the 1400s. Since then, every version imaginable has been patented. The Misti was novel, in that it was marketed for the scrapbooking industry, but not a new invention by any means.

Was it a weird coincidence that Jennifer McGuire (a staunch supporter of the Misti) just uploaded a video on ways to use the Misti? I thought she was also a fan/friend of Tim Holtz? Or am I looking into it too much?

I doubt that Tim Holtz needs her endorsement for this, but I thought it was kind of funny that she even mentioned it.

But to be snarky about it, and to Tim Holtz of all people, kinda lowers my respect for her. She keeps saying that what she does is her "job". Well she needs not let her emotions get in the way of her business, imo.

Or am I looking into it too much? I thought the same thing. I didn't watch her video because I have the Precision Press by WRMK. I'm sure there will be plenty of others reviewing his stamp positioner, so I, for one, won't miss hers. * (not intended for you)* I'm very happy with my Precision Press, but I like looking at different options and possibilities.

I can understand and appreciate Jennifer McGuire's loyalty to someone who is obviously a friend. But the Misti owner conducted herself badly IMO, and has no right to attack others for creating a similar product. I'm sure she was disappointed, but she would have had a much more loyal following if she had focused on her own business instead of everyone else's.
Her attack on one of our own Peas, who created a little press for his own use, in his garage, was beyond ridiculous. I knew nothing about her product until that, and she certainly lost this potential customer right off the bat.
I think it's time for Jennifer to let it go. That Tonic press looks really awesome, and it makes no sense for her to alienate other manufacturers and designers over this.

Knowing how the MISTI owner acted with (potential) customers I wonder if she has a contract with JM that prevents JM from discussing other stamp positioners. Wouldn't surprise me.

I didn't even think of that when I saw the video. However, the tips she gives can be used with almost any of the current (and future) hinged stamp positioners on the market.

I've held off ordering a stamp positioner and now I'm really happy I did. I love Tim Holtz ( I've been lucky enough to have had two classes with him-he is an excellent teacher, and so warm and friendly), and have several Tonic tools that are not only the best but very good quality. I have their 12" guillotine paper cutter and several of their scissors. This stamp positioner looks perfect! I'll be ordering this for sure.
I almost ordered a Misti around Christmas time, but I'm so glad I didn't. I had no idea of all of the bad customer service problems and bad quality complaints. While I can understand perhaps feeling bad about the extensive competition from other products from the inventor of the Misti, that doesn't excuse her lack of customer service, or her harassing and threatening customers on message boards. Far from it. The Misti could have been a perfect product but with that type of customer service you can kill a business. Add in a defective product and you've pretty much signed the death warrant on your business. Customer service is key in my opinion.

She just started using that bar magnet in her videos and being Jennifer McGuire, I'm sure she gets SO many questions about any little thing she changes, so she did a quick video to help cut down on emails. In the past she's said she doesn't do product reviews because if she loves something, she'll support it but if she's not a fan she doesn't publicize it. I can appreciate that she only wants to put the positive stuff out there. I also don't think her not reviewing the other ones means that they're bad, it just means this is the one she's happy with. I have a Misti myself and while I don't love how the owner has behaved, I am very happy with the product itself. Just another perspective to throw out there.

I just think her timing was very unfortunate if she truly doesn't mean any snark. I'm another one who really doesn't think Jennifer meant to be snarky, but rather informative to cut down on the hundreds of repetitive emails she receives. My first thought when I saw the video was 1. She wanted to answer all the questions regarding the new bar magnet, especially now that SSS will be carrying it (the first time I saw her use it she linked to Amazon to purchase the magnet, which is where I bought mine) and 2. It was just a coincidence that Tim released a video of his stamp positioner and she was probably getting tons of emails asking if she was going to review it. If I'm not mistaken, she said she had no plans at this time since she was happy with her MISTI's.
My guess, is she might do one down the road for Tim...or not.
Anyway, I didn't automatically think she was being snarky at all....she was just being Jennifer doing what she does.

Thank you mimi3566 after reading that I might have to agree with you. I guess I was a little sensitive about her doing it 2 days after Tim released his product. (Plus I'm super stressed out atm and it's making me a bit grouchy/bitchy. ) I really love and admire JM so to see her video timing made me question her motives. I know she is a great person.

I too have an original misti and I absolutely will be also getting this I agonized over the 12x12 misti for scrapbookingbut for the price and customer service of tonic this is a real winner . I always feel sad that the original inventor of the misti did not handle her ideas/ customers better or differently or whatever the problem was . She had SUCH a good idea and it really has become as much of a must have stamping tool as acrylic blocks Such a shame for her Yes, her ferocious defense of her (pending) patent certainly did drive away a lot of people who had been very supportive of her..... And now everyone is making one! I totally agree... I was on the Misti Facebook group.... and she even drove those people away to the point that they had to change the name if the group ....

It's very unfortunate timing or the Misti owner asked of Jennifer to do it now because of the upcoming loss of business due to TH's stamping platform. This wouldn't surprise me as it's a common business tactic: lock in a few more orders before FOMO for a competitor's product takes over. TH's won't be shipping until April, now is the time to give people the impression this tool is really a game changer and you can have it in your hands straight away. Psychologically, customers tend to brush off most logical and rational reasons to delay a purchase (the improvements TH did on the other versions of the concept floating around) if you cater to their instant gratification needs.
What wasn't very smart on Jennifer's behalf was the epilogue. She should have scripted the final bit of her video better. It felt contrived, hesitant (she literally uh-ed while reaching for words), more like a warning than an explanation. It was very clear that she (at this time) will only endorse the Misti and thus not mention any other stamping platforms out there. But it could have been expressed better and in a friendlier tone. "This is my go-to stamping platform. I've absolutely fallen in love with it and that's why it's the one - and only one - I'm offering review of on my channel." Over and out.
Ironically, TH isn't one to take concepts and make his own version of it just to grab some money. I appreciate his cool jazz cat attitude in the SB industry. And I trust his products even more because of it. He only reworks existing concepts if he feels they're not meeting his needs and can be improved upon. Case in point with this platform.

I agree with all of this 100%. Lol at TH as a cool jazz cat! He certainly is always positive and professional. If something negative did happen behind the scenes at Ranger, you would never know it from the way he has conducted himself. I have so much admiration for him as a professional in this industry.

It was always my understanding that Tim and Jennifer were very good friends, she always posted her son's ( and hers) devotion to Tim and I took classes from both of them and they were having dinner together and if I remember right Mario and Tim I believe we're staying with her and they went around town together doing things . This was some years back in Cincinnati at the Stampaway Convention.

My eyebrows hit the ceiling when Jennifer McGuire said that at the end of her Misti video. Still love her, still gonna watch her, and at this point, when she owns like 20 of the damn things, I get that she's wholly invested in them and doesn't really need more from other brands, but still it stuck me super oddly when she basically said she wasn't even going to try anything else. That's really unlike her. She tries and compares freakin' everything. It made her look incredibly biased in favor of a particular vendor, when usually she's all about the best tool for the task, no matter the maker.
I'm buying from Tim. Even if I didn't want to support him because he's TIM, the rubber stamp functionality is mandatory for me. And it's not pink!

I just bought the HA one at Michael's with a coupon. Ugh!!!! Guess I will return it and wait for the Tonic one.
I love TH and all his products. I always feel that he really thinks about how things should work and then tweaks them. I mean look at what he did with acylic paints, the flip tops that make sure you don't spill paint out of them without squeezing them. I just LOVE how he teaches, thinks and he is always so nice. One year at GASC, I must have watched all his demos for 2 hours or more. He was kind, cheerful and super nice the whole time. I am a big fan of TH, Dina Wakely and Dyan Reaveley.
