I have that exact same question.
Why does someone think this is a good idea??

It's because no one in programming has an original thought any longer. It seems that all they do is remake or bring back old shows and movies lately. They need to learn to leave well enough alone!

It's crazy!
Did you know there's a CHiPs movie coming out next month? Is there no originality left in Hollywood?

I saw that commercial for Beaches a few days ago. Well, actually I heard -I wasn't looking up at the TV - that song (that I absolutely hate) and thought who would use that for product advertising?
Then I saw it was going to be a TV movie! Good grief, Hollywood. Please hire some writers with an original thought.
Honestly, I think Tekevision-land has sold their souls to reality TV and have totally given up on scripted shows.

I hate this.
I love Idina and would normally watch anything she's in, but this looks awful.

Will not be watching under any circumstances. I mean I wasn't in love with the first Beaches, but Bette Midler... This time around I just can't.

Sequels/prequels/remakes tend to turn a profit so they get made. If you look domestically, however, I think there is evidence that people are starting to get tired of this business model and going to other forms of entertainment. Probably for the same reasons they remind Steel Magnolias. Whatever the hell those were (the reasons, not the magnolias).

I posted about this a month or so ago. My bigger problem with it (unless they've changed the marketing) is the commercials we're touting it as a Lifetime ORIGINAL?! No, NOT an original, it's a remake!

Thank you for posting, I totally agree.
I like Idina, have several of her albums, but there is no one who can ever be CC other than Bette Midler!

Remakes have run amok. Netflix has a remake of "One Day at a Time". I saw a favorable review of it, but no. I watched it in the 70's, I'm not watching it again.
They can play re-runs for people who loved the original, but I want new shows to watch.
