Looks like a sturdy machine and a good price. How wide are the cutting plates?

mamakoala, if I were just starting out with dies for card making, I would definitely pick up the basics - the circle and rectangle dies you mentioned plus double ended banner dies (great for sentiments), single ended banner dies, stars/hearts and various sizes/shapes of tag dies. I would also pick up some word dies. For me, it would be "thinking of you", "smile", "hello", happy birthday", "thanks/thank you" and "celebrate". For stamps and die combos, it really depends on your style and the type of cards you want to do. Basic stamp sets for me would include a whimsical floral, a more elegant floral, birthday (cake, presents, balloons, etc.), some good sentiment sets that include sentiments that can be used inside the card as well as on the front, and a masculine set (nature). One really good thing about choosing a company like Lawn Fawn or Paper Smooches is that their style is consistent through all their sets and you can easily mix and match images and sentiments. Buy what you love and what you'll use. And most of all, have fun.

Love paper smooches too and Avery Elle has some adorable stamps/ I ended up ordering the circle dies, a grass cut die from lawn fawn, scallop border and some adorable lawn fawn stamps. Eep!! it begins!!

Also check out Kat Scrappiness (?) because the dies are cheaper. Same design but i think they are "Gina Marie". I found them after I bought my dies from MFT...stitched frame ones.

Awesome find, wish we had Tuesday morning in Australia you guys seem to get awesome deals from that place.
My advice for dies is definitely buy the basics like circles and hearts and then look at the kinds of things you would use the most. I scrapbook mainly outdoors, camping and beach trips so for me things like anchors, shells and ferns are the most used but I also like doilys and tags. I would just have no use for things like animals and cars etc so I don't buy those.

I just bought stitched dies (circles, rectangles, stars, hearts etc) from Aliexpress for dirt cheap. I also got some small sized alpha dies and clear stamps. They can take up to 2 months to arrive but I have been very happy with them. All I need yet are some basic shape nested dies that are not stitched. I got some starter embossing folders from ACM, J, and HL with coupons/sales because I don't want to pay over #3 a folder. Aliexpress has some interesting folders but they are not as cheap as their dies and stamps. www.aliexpress.com/?spm=2114.01010208.1000002.1.3XAxrj

Congratulations, that is a fantastic price! I have the Evolution Advanced and I really love it! I love that you can either hand crank or use the optional motor and I also love that the motor is replaceable. That way, if it dies, you don't have to buy a whole new machine. What I have personally done is bought the Sizzix magnetic platform and Sizzix cutting pads and use those in my Evolution instead of what came with it. I like the magnetized shorter base and I also like being able to see what I'm cutting through the pads. I personally found that the cutting mat provided warps in weird ways so I prefer using the Sizzix set up. When I do embossing folders, I use my magnetized base, one cutting pad, embossing folder and a thick piece of chipboard on top. This way I can use the same height setting I use for wafer thin dies and don't have to adjust it. I think the Evolution Advanced is often overlooked but I love mine so much! I hope this is the beginning of a long and meaningful relationship for you two.

i love it! Just a wee bit sorry i invested in the spellbinders prizm. Oh well, my son will enjoy using it. The prizm is for crops and to keep out on your desk all the time. At least that's how I use mine. The bigger machines take up too much space IMO to have always on the desk. Great price on the evolution. Save

How fun!
For embossing folders, start with some of the cheap Darice ones that you can often find on sale at J's or M's. Get several that appeal to you, then see which of them you actually use.
I used to love embossing folders that had a little scene, but then I found I didn't really know how to use them on a card... until I discovered coloring them with chalks and makeup applicator swabs. Oh. My. Goodness, I went nuts! So fun!
