tiffanytwisted and christinec68 makes me nostalagic to hear you mention SDVs. I went to so many before they went out of business. Always so much fun. The first one I went to was great. That's where I took the photo of the 'scaffolding', lol. The next one is always one of the stories I tell on the 'Crop Nightmares' thread. Sad that they let it all go downhill. I will have to look up your story. My friend and I were signed up for the last one. You know the one where the week of the crop they went out of business. They sent out emails saying it was canceled and a store owner that was going to be a vendor kindly offered to take it over. I guess everything was already paid for through the hotel. We went and still had fun. That store owner has crops and retreats and we just go to the ones she puts on now. We were so thankful that she stepped up.

I took my 4 month old baby. It was a small group. We have scrapped together for years. She ate mostly milk I had to pump. My group talked me into bringing her so I wouldn't miss. She was great and slept most of the time.

Well, I found the SDV photo (not as great as I though), but apparently the file is too big, so it wouldn't upload. Sorry!

It was either that one or the one right before that was supposed to be in NJ. My friend & I were trying to think of a way to sneak in just to shop the vendors. They had been asked if they would just sell 'shopping passes', but of course, they said no. We had remembered that there was a side door that you could get in & just hit the vendors in the hallway w/no one knowing you hadn't come from the ballroom. Never got to execute our little caper, because the event went down in flames.

I pack pretty lightly when I go to crops... too much stuff makes me nuts!
Probably the craziest thing I ever took to a crop was a Holter (heart) monitor. I had to be on the monitor continuously for a week, including the crop weekend. My scrappin' buddies knew I had it but because it is concealed under your clothing, no one else knew.

what is SDV?
I go to a couple of camp crops - nothing too weird - extra tables, lots of drinks (both non and alcoholic), small scaffoldings, cushions for chairs, heaters, seems like I'm missing out!

My loads get lighter and lighter every time because I despise loading and unloading all that crap! The one time I brought a sewing machine the other girls thought I was kinda crazy. And when the Clip it Up first came out I brought that and they all wondered if I was selling things.
I always bring my small Ott lite and my coffee warmer. And Jell-O shots.

My friend brings a footstool which I thought was odd, but I tried it and it really helps out with the back. So I bring a mini storage ottoman so at least it provides a dual purpose.

SDV was Scrappers Dream Vacation - they scheduled huge weekend retreats all over. I went to one in NJ. One of my friends used to go in PA and I know they had events in Disney World among others. Here's a review of an event that was posted on the Disboards with some pictures too. www.disboards.com/threads/scrapbooking-convention-sdv-scrappers-dream-vacation-2010-trip-report.2551206/

The table at our beachy getaway is a huge 2-pedestal table, so I couldn't do it there, but the next time I'm going to a crop w/'regular' tables, I think I might have to do that! The first one I went to really was great. The massages, THE VENDORS, the uninterrupted scrappy time and just being in a large room (or 2) with people who shared your obsession hobby. Really made ya feel good to 'bond' with so many!

tiffanytwisted I agree about SDV. It was my first weekend retreat and it was great and overwhelming at the same time. It was nice being with people who "got it" and I liked that secret sisters & swaps were coordinated. The vendors!! Oh my gosh...the vendor area was larger than any scrapbook store I had been to at the time. I only went the one SDV event and that was over 10 years ago. Previously, I had just been to a Friday night things held by the PTA of a nearby school which is a whole different game.

wine is my craziest thing, I guess. Oh, and my electric typewriter, but I don't think that was crazy, lol! (I surprised the heck out of some ladies on the other side of the room, when they heard me start typing on it, though!)
ETA: I always overpack and bring at least half my room for a 12-hr crop, let alone for a weekend crop! I never had room in my car for my own chair, but I do understand why some of the ladies would bring their own. I'd bring my hotel room chair down to the ballroom; much more comfortable than the metal 'banquet-type' chairs they usually have there.
I have to be careful with the wine drinking when I do bring it- just a little will help out my creativity, but one drink too much, and I'm done for the night, lol! (I typically try to stay up till at least 2 am at a weekend crop, so...)
I like the footstool idea- sitting in those chairs for too long can be extremely uncomfortable; a footstool would help.

I was sad when I downsized vehicles (I had an Expedition) and couldn't bring my chair anymore. But like you I pack like I am going to a month long crop.. LOL.. I just can't get my thinking cap on when I don't have my "stuff" around me. I do try to limit it but yeah....ends up if I cut back on one thing I add something else!!
