According to his email signature, mine is a Principal Software Engineer. Apparently the Principal means something. It used to be senior software engineer. He writes code for product life cycle management software for the apparel industry.

My DH is now in Fire Prevention. His title is Chief Fire Inspector which translates to Assistant Fire Marshal. He was a fireman for years before that and last year celebrated 20 years with the City. He LOVES what he does and it is such a joy to see him in a position that is related to his passion - fire safety. He also spends time in schools (mostly elementary) educating kids about fire safety and is active in our Fire Department's Honor Guard. I am very proud of him.

He is not a doctor...he is like the caddy to the professional golfer. He assists the cardiologists with the procedure and recommends devices and tools. He really is one of the best in the business and has experience in multiple modalities including pediatrics. Doctors are usually fighting to have him in their OR rooms because he makes them look good. My dh is a surgical first assistant so similar to your analogy. He works at 3 different hospitals here in Nashville and has basically been trained in every service. He loves it and the surgeons love him. We totally understand night and weekend call as well

Fieldman is his title. He goes to local poultry farms and insures they are operating correctly, inspects the chickens, and helps the farmers regulate their food, water, air and any medications the birds may need. He's also on call 24/7 in case a farmer needs him.
He has worked with this company since he was 19 and worked his way up the ladder to this position. I'm so very proud of him! We couldn't afford for both of us to go to college, so he took care of the kids and worked lower positions so that I could go to school at night (I worked during the day also). We now both do something we love!

Mine is a full time farmer. A dying breed. I think Farmers are so under appreciated. Long days in the heat, late nights during harvest, all kinds of weather to battle. I very much admire farmers. They have to love what they do. Tell your DH I said thanks. And thank you, Gail, for being a supportive farmer's wife.

Mine was a cop. He loved it. I totally understand the call outs. We had lots of that during his career. It was only really ridiculous when he did a 6 month stint as a detective for Child Crimes. He was NEVER home during that period. Other than that we figured it out. HE really enjoyed training the rookies. He was a born teacher but didn't realize it till he got that position.

DH is an engineer who also manages other engineers. His company makes systems that refine recycled aluminum. He is currently in Abu Dhabi assisting with the startup of a new system. At his company's sales conference I attended last September, I learned that most of the aluminum ever produced is still in circulation. I thought that was cool.

Used to be a body mechanic on cars.. you wreck them, he fixes them.. then he went to a bigger company and worked on buses, they wreck them he fixes them.. lol
He's got out of that type of profession and is getting ready to start as a truck driver. Any day now... He will transport frozen foods.
Yeah, I was just joking with him yesterday, "Yes, I never ever thought I would be married to a truck driver"... He said 'yes, dear I know that!" LOL

The diversity so far is astonishing, and I'm enjoying this thread immensely. Thanks, OP. My husband is a television engineer and has worked in network sports and entertainment for 35 years. I'm proud to say he has won several team Emmys over the years. How cool! Sounds like an amazing job. My DH is a tool and die maker who specializes in moulds. He makes moulds for companies like sun PAC, igloo, Rubbermaid etc. My dad was a tool and die maker! He worked for Lockheed and made parts for airplanes.

My husband is retired Navy and now works at the State Correctional Center in the maintenance department. He supervises inmates and tries to teach them job skills so when they get out they can try to get a job instead of going back to whatever got them in prison in the first place. The recidivism is very high though and he only knows of one true success story in 14 years. Sad, but he does what he can.

A few years ago I had to have a stent and I very well remember the man that was the right hand to the dr-I ask if he was an RN and he told me no and that he was the cardiac intervention specialist--later he couldn't believe that I could remember to tell my daughter who is an RN he title. I appreciated him and the dr for saving my life--my blockage was in the so called"widowmaker"
