I've never rescued a pet from a shelter but most of my dogs have been rescued in some form.
Frodo: yorkie; he passed away this passed Friday at 15 years old. I've had him since he was 10. My friend didn't want him anymore so I took him. She got him at one year old from a rescue. I loved that dog! I've known him since she got him as we've been friends for a long time.
Shadow: sheltie; He is almost 12 now. We got him from a couple who had been fostering him, decided to keep him then changed their minds. I've had him since he was 6 months old.
Leia: shitzu mix; not a rescue. I paid $ for her.
Melvin: shitzu; I took him when my mom passed away. She found him on the side of a busy road we think he when he was still a puppy. She took him to the shelter but she wanted to keep him. They would call her if someone came in looking for a dog that matched his description. Nobody ever came so he was hers. She was so happy.
Dixie: she is a yorkie mix: My youngest DD found her in a field on super bowl sunday around four years ago. We tried to find her home but were unsuccessful so we kept her.

I got my kitten from a pet supply store that contracts with a rescue group. My dog came from a shelter. My son's cat really had a hard-luck tale, he was found on the side of the highway locked in a pet carrier with his mother and several siblings, some of which were deceased by the time they were found, and the crate had standing water in it and all the cats had respiratory infections. Fortunately it was August so at least they hadn't frozen. My DD's friend's mother found them and took them in, and I was sucker enough to take one of course. He's now a plump 12 year old with a very easy life. ETA photo of Oreo enjoying a stroll I really hope there is special place in hell for the people who abandoned them like that. And I love your cat stroller. I have tried for years to convince DH that our cats would enjoy one of those, with no success. The five cats we currently have all came from the same shelter. We adopted a litter of 3 boys, then 3 years later after the death of our old man cat, went back and adopted 2 baby sisters. I got the stroller as a lightning deal on Amazon last year, so I was only out $36. I figured it was worth the risk to see whether they'd tolerate it or not I really bought it for my old man cat who passed away a couple months ago. He actually enjoyed it, which made me really glad that he could enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while staying safe AND reinforcing my role on the bike path as a Crazy Cat Lady.

Bridget, 18 year old border collie from a rescue group, so she was living in a home when we adopted her fourteen years ago.
Wendy, 13 (ish) year old chiweenie inherited from my father, who adopted her from a rescue group.
Lily, 5 year old pit bull adopted from Austin Pets Alive, a no-kill shelter that pulls from local shelters.
Ben, almost 3 year old pit bullish mix, that my daughter found (hairless) on the streets of Waco, Texas.
Maeby, 4.5 month old tabby that was found homeless at less than a month, then given to son's friend as a "tip," then sneaked into my home. She had a serious case of ringworm, so we couldn't take her to a shelter. While at the vet for her last lime sulfur dip, there was a terrible mix-up, and she ended up with a chemical burn. So, I think I'm keeping her--much to dh's chagrin.

Both of ours are. The story is that Roast Beef came from a hoarders home in New Mexico to California. He was found with 100 other dogs. He is probably Boston Terrier, Chihuahua and Chinese Crested Hairless. DS adopted him from a rescue and we ended up with him temporarily 11 years ago after DS's landlord said no dogs. We picked up Bob from our local shelter after we heard through the grapevine that a family friend had given up on him after only 6 months. Bob is a Rat Terrier and is now 5 years old.

Our first black lab came from the humane society. He was about 6 months old and already huge which was why he was surrendered. DH fell in love with him at first sight. His partner in crime was a toy poodle that came from a pet store. We went to the mall to buy a shower curtain shortly after we got married and came home with a puppy instead. The next dog was another lab that came from one of DH's customers whose purebred chocolate lab had a litter of pups after our black lab died. She was his constant companion and went to work with DH every day. I got the Jack Russell from a breeder after my poodle died. We got our yellow lab from some random guy in the parking lot at the hardware store at the lake cabin. The parent dogs were both AKC but the litter wasn't certified. He turned out to be one of the best natural bird dogs DH had ever seen. Our next lab was on his second home by the time we got him. Even though he was (is!) totally nuts and completely worthless for hunting, we are his forever home. He's the most fiercely loyal animal I've ever known. Our newest one is another rescue, a very sweet little toy poodle. My friend was fostering her when her original owner had to be hospitalized, and the owner realized she wouldn't be able to care for her anymore. My friend tugged on my heartstrings knowing that my JR was not doing well, and we took her in. I wasn't going to get another dog but I'm SO glad we did, she has been a balm to my broken heart since I had to put my little guy down after Christmas and she's been a wonderful pet for my DD.

he next morning I went down to meet him and see if we were a good match. When I got there, I was told he had just been adopted. Fast forward a year and I start dating a man - who has a scottie - who was a rescue - the same rescue I went to look at! This is awesome!!!

our doxie came from the shelter with some anxiety issues but doing well, has big dog syndrome,we have had her for about 7 years, the terrier - My dh found in the orange groves across from the park on the way home from church. He was afraid she would get hit by a car so brought her home at 3 months. The alpha cat came from the shelter last century, man is she getting old but you would never know it. the other cat, the stupid idiots on the corner left the cat there when they moved. It stayed in our bushes, kind scared of people for awhile, all the neighbors took turns feeding her. She graduated to the garage and now mostly stays in my daughter's room. Now the neighbors are trying to get us to adopt a Siamese cat, but I think we have plenty right now.

Angel, our 13 year old border collie/husky mix. Adopted when she was 13 weeks old. Best $75 I've ever spent. We also have a rescue cat, but he refuses to have his photo taken!

Yes, not formally rescued, but became part of our family when they were dumped on our farm, most of who badly needed rescuing. We have adopted 5 different dumped dogs over the last 34 years, and our totally spoiled Chihuahua, Ginger, is the latest.
I really want karma to catch up with the horrible people who abandon innocent pets. But I am usually happy that they found us, even the sad, skinny mama dog who appeared years ago and presented us with 9 puppies on Christmas morning.
