I wish I could but I pass out at the sight of blood (especially my own). I tried once in high school and passed out half way through, after resting a few hours I tried to go back to class and passed out walking down the hallway (had to be walked to the office by one of the gym teachers). All the blood they draw while you're pregnant about does me in and that's nowhere near a pint.

Yes, I donate whenever there is a local blood drive. Last time I donated was in November.

I give once or twice a year. Our school does a blood drive several times a year and it makes it easy. My dad and brother both donate to the day when they are eligible. It is important to try and give if you are able.

My husband's last donation put him at the 19 gallon mark. When I first met him, I was too squeamish to donate, but I eventually toughened up and started donating with him. In 2013, I received a letter from the Red Cross saying that I have a fabulous platelet count, so I've been donating platelets since then.

Do I *like* it? Not necessarily. But I do try to donate regularly.

I donate regularly-scheduled for this Saturday. I swear the minute I am eligible to donate again the Red Cross is calling or e-mailing me!

My mother donated every six weeks (or eight weeks, however long you have to go between), like clockwork. She was O- so they were happy to have her. I think she'd have donated more often if they'd have let her. But when my sister and I were little and went with her, they would always let us have cookies, too. I think that might be the first place I got to eat a milano cookie.
I tried to donate once. They were surprised I knew my blood type (although they still had to test and not take my word for it); I was surprised they were surprised. I feel like that's a pretty important vital to know. Anyhow, they couldn't get the needle in no matter how they tried. The co-worker I'd gone with was ALREADY DONE donating, and they were still trying to stick me, so we gave up. I am leary of trying again, not because I'm worried about them digging around in a vein but I've had multiple vasovagal reactions (passing out) as I've gotten older, and I am a little concerned that taking a pint of blood would trigger one.

I give a couple times a year. I'm O+ and sometimes they call me to come in when there's a need for my blood type. The next time I can donate is next month.

I was a two gallon donor. But, I lived in Europe for too many years and am under a life long ban. It is something I feel strongly about and really hate that I can't give blood. I am hoping that somehow somewhere I will be cleared again (we were banned, then we had a reprieve, but then I hit the next cut off and they haven't changed it again.)

Good reminder that I need to get out and donate.
For those that can't donate regarding mad cow. My dd had a friend die from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease which is the human form of mad cow. It is a horrific disease with no cure. It's supposedly rare but it happens more than I thought. So sad.

I started donating blood when I was 18yo. I have low blood pressure so I have actually passed out a couple of times after donating - so embarrassing!! The last time I donated (which was several years ago now) I passed out. I have tried to donate again a few times after that, but they keep knocking me back because my blood pressure is too low. I haven't tried for a few years now. I guess I should try again.
