Oh well. At least he did everything the ethics office wanted so there’s no conflict of interest. That was my main concern. Let’s see if he and Trump lift the Russian sanctions.

For some reason this one doesn't scare me as much as some of the others, especially DeVos for Sec. or Ed. I don't see Tillerson going out on a limb too far and he may even be able to talk some sense into Trump. I didn't agree with much of what he said in his conformation hearings but he was well spoke, seemed to understand the importance of the job and seems quite patriotic in a business kind of way.

I agree. Hopefully he can do his job. He isn't my pick but doesn't seem as awful as others...
I have been calling my senators and annoying my FB friends about Betsy DeVos. I have a special needs son and I am just HORRIFIED she is the pick for Secretary of Education. We live in a red state and even the teachers are horrified. I just pray everyone is calling, calling, calling to get this one blocked. I can't imagine how anyone thinks she's a good choice.

I find this appointment extremely concerning. So disappointed with McCain and Graham for going along with this. Ronald Reagan must be rolling over in his grave.

I don't think he has actually been confirmed. I think he just was cleared out of committee. Having made it that far, it's almost a slam dunk that he will be confirmed, but I don't think he has been yet.
OTOH, Pompeo HAS been confirmed as Director of the CIA.

I agree with most of you. Tillerson pales in comparison to the horror that is Betsy DeVos. gahhhhh
(I've been taking allergy medicine all winter and avoiding booze. Starting to think I really, really miss it.)

I tried several times to edit my title to say that he was confirmed by the Senate Committee for SOS!!! For some reason it's not saving! Grrr

Yes, he hasn't actually been confirmed yet, only out of the committee. I asked my dh about Tillerson and he said that he's not nearly as concerned about this guy as he is about some other cabinet heads. According to dh, Tillerson is a good manager for a company that has overseas operations. So he is used to dealing with foreigners. He also doesn't appear to be a right-wing ideologue. And he has talked about his concern for what's called the "energy deficit" -- those 1.3 more or less billion people in the world who have no access, or very limited access, to electricity needed to cooking, sanitation, education, etc. Dh also got called in, at the last second , to a meeting with several Trump people yesterday. Apparently they got in touch with the Bureau chief on Sunday afternoon and insisted on a Monday meeting. Dh said they asked lots of good questions, and took lots of notes. So that was positive. I'm feeling less concerned about this nomination since State has all the career people to advise Tillerson. Now DeVos on the other hand...

I think he's a less than ideal choice, but he seems intelligent and while I think his goal is enriching his own coffers, he doesn't appear to want to do it through complete and total evil. As best I can tell (admittedly I haven't spent a ton of time researching him), he seems to be capable of doing the job. I can't go so far as to say I approve of the choice, but I think he's on the top of my "least objectionable candidates of Trump's" list.

They were unilateral sanctions anyway. Had Obama placed the same sanctions on China when they hacked the OPM I would have had a bigger issue with it.

My issue ''tis that he's only agreed to a 1 year "hiatus" if you will, regarding refraining from voting or making decisions that benefit Exxon. After that year--anything goes.
