But I distinctly remember Michelle Obama saying, to Americans and other countries, how she was ashamed to be an American. So it's okay for the FLOTUS to say that, but not okay for a presidential nominee to want America to be great like she has been in the past? I remember the Cold War and how great it was when the Berlin Wall came down. When the USSR started making changes and breaking up, allowing so many of those small countries to have autonomy. I was a teen during the Reagan years, when the President of the US was considered the most powerful man in the world. When people from all over the world knew that America was the land of opportunity and hope. America is a wonderful country ("make America great again" doesn't mean it's a lousy country or "totally sucks"), but it certainly has changed. In some ways for the better, in some ways not so much. My thoughts are that until DJT was elected, the President of the US was still someone to be respected and a leader on the world stage. Until the anti-immigrant, anti-minority talk started in the last few years, the US was still seen as a land of opportunity. Maybe it still is, but that has deteriorated greatly since DJT has been nominated and then elected President. He is making a mockery of the office of the president and our country as a whole. His denigration of the intelligence community is going to have far reaching consequences that we don't even see yet. Not to mention his cabinet picks and the constant lying. That is not going to make, or keep, America great.

Jigglypuff, Trump has had women in key positions in his business and in his campaign. I don't believe your statement about it being ok to pay women less is accurate. I think this is baseless fear that has been used as propaganda by his opponents. Just because he has hired women doesn't mean that he has treated them equally, in pay or otherwise. Actually I've heard he was much better at it than Hillary, and paid more than Hillary. She paid the men working for her more from my understanding.

Yep, when you have a Cheeto in Chief telling you that it is Armageddon and creating the yuuuuge divide amongst people your hope would be it can only get better. Especially since their choice was the PE with the lowest approval ratings ever, and President Obama was the or one of the highest favored presidents ever! It's odd. Every time I see Cheeto in Chief or Tiny hands comments. They make me think of Skybar/pea and the comments she always made about President Obama, and calling him DBO, etc, and the responses on the left of "respecting the office, even if you don't respect the man", and "you're horrible for calling the president names" (This was even when she just used his full name). Funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same. Looks like we are finding out everyone here who will be this administration's skybar. I do not agree with the name calling, either.

I agree. My passive-aggressive compromise has been that I will (if necessary) refer to him as President, I will more commonly refer to him as Trump, but I'm not going to put those two words together. It doesn't change facts, nor is it disrespectful, it just makes me feel a little better.

I think this is baseless fear that has been used as propaganda by his opponents. It may very well be baseless and propaganda. Unless we can compare a woman's pay stub to a man's pay stub given they both have the same years, education and experience, we will probably never know for sure. But you cannot say that there is not discrimination. Simply because he has had women in key positions, does not mean he paid them equally. No, I cannot prove it. Neither can you prove that he does provide equal pay. So we've reached an impasse. However, history has proven that women have always been paid significantly lower than their male counterparts. I feel that gap has gotten smaller, but there is still a gap. I do fear that with his administration, that gap will start increasing again. I do hope I am wrong, and he works towards closing that gap even more. But I won't hold my breath.

Just one tiny typo in your post....anti-illegal-immigration. For some that might be the case, but there are plenty others, trump included, who have commented about all immigration. Remember the Muslim registry? I do understand that, and will fight alongside you against any form of Muslim registry. I'm not opposed to suspending immigration for countries with ties to terrorism until we can verify definitively their background. This would include countries like Syria, Iran, Qatar, Yemen in my opinion. I'm also for a complete restructuring of our immigration system to make it easier for average workers/people to migrate here legally and cheaply. It shouldn't cost thousands of dollars to work through the legal process to migrate here, and it shouldn't be limited to just skilled, college-educated labor either. The lottery of 50,000 (do they still do that?) should be broadened and we should have a visa class that allows for low-income, unskilled labor to migrate here just as easily. However, for illegal immigrants already here...we obviously cannot deport them all. I believe we should empty our prisons of every illegal immigrant and put them on planes to their home countries, or stop all foreign aid if the countries will not take them back and put them in prison. If a crime is committed by someone found to be illegal, they should be prosecuted, then sent to their home country to pay for and serve our their sentence. For the vast majority of illegal immigrants who are not felons, they are here. They should be able to work. The need to be able to drive. But they should never be allowed citizenship. That to me is the punishment for doing it illegal. You can stay, but you will never have a voice.

I think this is baseless fear that has been used as propaganda by his opponents. No, it's coming from subservient conservatives who think women should allow men to earn more as well as words straight out of Trumps mouth ("putting women to work is a dangerous thing" c. 1984). Trump making these statements himself is NOT "propaganda by his opponents" either Lauren. Trump appointing women to key positions has absolutely nothing to do with equal pay. His choices were solely and clearly based on who supported him and political placement, nothing more.

What trump has said about women (to the public, no less) does not make me very confident that I would feel safe working for/with him unless I was open to his pussy grabbing. Or maybe it wouldn't be a problem since I'm not a 10.

I totally get it, I just figure I'll try to be the good example. My kids are still young enough to emulate me. They know how DH and I feel about Trump. I figure even more than other times, I need to show them how people *should* behave. In fact, that's basically how I've presented it to them - we have someone in charge who believes in things Mom and Dad really disagree with, so it's that much more important that we try to stand up for what's right. (I don't mean this as a handslap, particularly as I find some of the nicknames pretty funny, just stating where I am with it all. Cheeto Tweeto and Twitler are my favorites.)

Well his cabinet is certainly shaping up to be the most white males since Reagan. But he does let Kellyanne tell alternative facts and said "thank you baby" to her publically, so women have that!

Well hopefully his administration isn't like Reagan's By the end of his term, 138 Reagan administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations. In terms of number of officials involved, the record of his administration was the worst ever.

Funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same. Looks like we are finding out everyone here who will be this administration's skybar. When trump started his campaign he set the tone for the "new" America with his name calling and his lies. Since he has been elected he has done nothing but re-force that tone. He shows absolutely no respect for the American people. All you have to do is look at all the lies he has told just since Friday. Lies that can be easily proven that he is indeed lying. Because he shows no respect for me I will not show him any respect. When I refer to him the word "president" will never be put before his name. There will never be a capital "t" when I write out his name. And following his tone I will continue to call him tiny hands, dimwit, fool, and twit. The man is unfit to be president. Yesterday was information overload and when I woke up this morning I had this sense of dread. Then I remember what tiny hands is doing to savage this country and putting our security and our soldiers in the field at risk. How his actions are going to dampen the American Dream instead of making it a reality for so many Americans. How the next 4 years are going to be nothing but turmoil. Overreacting? Maybe, I certainly hope so but I have this sinking feeling that I'm not. And the little bit that I saw of trump's grand plan this morning only strengthened that feeling of dread.
