I am aware this is a lame question but I have been wondering anyway....
I have been watching alot of youtube lately and I would love if someone could explain the long sleeve cover half your hand trend I keep seeing in process videos. Don't sleeves get in the way?

I haven't noticed that but I haven't watched process videos in a while. I dislike sleeves when I scrap, so I could see this being a bit annoying to watch.

Ah,the extra long sleeves... They started being a common trendy thing back in the early 2000s but mostly restricted to sporty lifestyle wear, pushed by several sport clothing items with half-hand covering sleeves (ski and snowboard jackets but also modern dance gear). They seem to have trickled down into overall mass public clothing nowadays.
I've seen several scrappy folks wear them in their videos. Like Ali Edwards, Theresa from Larkindesign, etc. If you look attentively, you'll notice that some of them have a hole for the thumb (which they're not using as that wouldn't be practical at all for scrapbooking). My guess is that these ladies are wearing a top or sweater from a sport gear company like Lululemon in those videos (after all, many of us like to get comfy with a pair of yoga pants or leggings and easy top when we get home). These thumb cuffs are originally designed to keep the sleeves from riding up and/or rain/snow/wind getting into the sleeves (and drastically cooling your body temp) during exercise outside. Since athletic clothes are now sold to mass public, they've just become super mainstream.
If the material of the sleeve isn't too bulky and glides well (like a lot of technical fabrics for athletic wear), it's really not much of a hindrance as long as you aren't doing some sort of messy scrapbooking with inks, water, glitter and glue.

I noticed this also. How this became a trendy thing i'll never understand. I do notice that some of the very thin scrappers that are hitting the 40 threshold are getting the old looking veiny hands. I guess it's long sleeves covering hands instead of the Madonna fingerless gloves to hide the evidence.

I was just having a conversation with a teacher about this. Instead of overheads, many teachers use document cameras and they project every single crease, age spot, dirty cuticle etc. to the 100th degree. No one has good looking hands with these.
I think people are just trying to cover up what they don't want seen.

haha, I hadn't thought about old hands being the problem. That might be it for some people!
I had noticed one scrapper in particular with her thumbs hooked into her long sleeve thumbholes, and almost-compulsively pulling down the sleeves when they were not thumbholed and it actually made me wonder if she had wrist scars to hide. A friend had told me that people who cut themselves (self harm) often compulsively hide their lower arms to hide their scars and injuries. (Apparently that's why a lot of young women cut thumbholes in their sweaters... so sad). I'm not naming the scrapper because I don't want to suggest that she has these issues, because she almost certainly doesn't. It was just where my mind went...
I find the long sleeves distracting and annoying too. But then I'm always shoving my sleeves up to my elbows. If I lived in a warmer climate I would happily never wear long sleeves ever again.

I didn't know they came with holes for thumbs or that it was a style thing, huh. I often leave my sleeves down like that because 1) I'm short, so my sleeves are always way too long, and 2) my hands are usually cold. Unless I'm doing something messy... then, roll 'em up!

I only wear short sleeves in the summer. So you'll typically find me scrapping in long sleeves. Both of my recent sweatshirt purchases had that thumb hole thing. I didn't even know when I bought them, but I like them. Although I don't use the thumb thing when I scrap. I could see the video ppl just being comfy and wearing what they have.
Oh, and I wear fingerless gloves a lot too. Yep, I'm almost always cold. Yet my family is always warm. I do sometimes wear them while scrapping if I'm doing nothing inky/messy.

I don't like long sleeves myself as I don't like feeling 'bulky' when I work. Unless the sleeves are very form fitting from elbow down, then I prefer 3/4 or short sleeves.
I 'think' I know the youtuber you are talking about joblackford....but I also find them distracting. That, and sniffing - if you have a cold for goodness sake, either don't talk and use captions or just post later when you have no sniffles....yuk

I don't know how anyone can do anything with sleeves flapping about. Even if they're fairly non-moving, I just can't imagine how they don't accidentally drag it across what they're doing, get covered in ink etc.
From: someone who cannot see her fingers at all if she wears long sleeves. Awkward to explain, but how my arms/hands work I look down the inside of my arm and then under my wrist to see my finger ends. Any bulky sleeve material obscures the view and I have no idea what my fingers are doing.
