I'm trying to justify keeping my Cricut and 20 odd cartridges but I literally haven't used it or any other digital die cutting machine in about 10 months. I have a huge stash of Thickers and other alphabet stickers and I am using Project Life to capture our memories this year.
I've been on this big simplifying kick-threw out about 6 years worth of old magazines and idea books, sold 100's of sheets of paper and embellies I knew I'd never use, but this monster of a machine sits there mocking me day in and day out.
I tell myself I'll use it again-maybe for the Universal Studios trip album or a school project.
So, why should I keep it? Or should I "let it goooooooooo"?

My vote - Don't let it goooooooooo! Just start thinking a little about what you could do with it. Then think about it a little more. Given time, I feel that the two of you could form a beautiful friendship.

My E has sat unused for over a year. I got a Cameo for Christmas and use it all the time. I need to decide what to do with it.
If yours is your only cutting option, I would tend to keep it. But I would try and think of things you could do with it, and if nothing really comes to mind, then I would think about selling it.
I love my Cameo so much more than my Cricut. A quick search thru my files to find a cut I want, or my fonts to weld a great title or look in the store to find something is so much easier than going through books to find the right cut. I did not use my E often for that very reason.
Plus I had bought $30 carts that I used only one image!
If having it sit there unused bothers you, and you can't justify keeping it, then it should go.

I would want to keep it too, just in case and because you don't have another electronic cutter. I would hate to scrap without mine though. I did give away my Cricuit when I bought my Cameo. I gave it to a friend I crop with regularly, so I know if I really needed it for something, I could borrow it back. So far, no regrets.

Tools are one thing I really think about before I sell them. I sold my Expression when I got my Cameo. That was the only reason i let it go. If I hadn't bought a replacement machine, I would have kept it.

I would say keep it. Maybe go through your carts and sell off the ones your not in love with. I recently did this. I had over 100 carts. Got it down to about 30. Not so overwhelming. I would keep it. You never know when you might want to use it for something.

I'd say keep it and make an effort to use it over the next 2-3 months. If you get to the end of that and haven't used it and don't see yourself doing so, then why not sell it?
I use my cricut a lot - but with sure cuts a lot not cartridges. When it dies I plan on getting a Cameo.

Do you have it in a spot that it is convenient to use? I think that makes a huge difference in using a big tool like the Cricut. Like a pp said try to make an effort to use it and see how you feel about it. Sometimes I challenge myself to try to do different things with my layouts. I think it's easy to get into a rut and just always do the same techniques over and over.

I've also been simplifying too. I had a baby Cricut and expression. Sold the smaller one, kept the expression and did sell some cartridges. Since then, I have bought a couple more, but put more thought into instead of, "OMG! Black Friday special."  I do like the capability of not being hooked up to the internet. I have the SCAL program, so that's a big reason why too. If it ever does die, I might switch to the Silhouette or Cameo. |

If you want to simplify, start using the machine. Then you don't need various packs of Thickers in different colors, never able to use up all the letters. Just cut your letters on your machine. If you want, add glitter to them. More variety, more color options, no extra storage space needed for Thicker packages.

I am keeping mine because it's not worth anything. They are not fetching much $, and after paying over $200 for the thing I will just hang onto it even if I haven't touched in a year. If you're not tight on space, then I would just hang onto it.

If I did not have another electronic cutter I would definitely keep it, even if it meant packing it away and storing it in another room. You just never know when you'll have the need to die cut some letters, etc. Especially if you have kids.

got rid of mine, all my carts, and my GYpsy too. Used the money to buy a Cameo that I use ALL THE TIME. So happy!

I guess I would ask why don't you make an effort to use it?
I kept mine even though I have a Scan n Cut. I tend to go in spurts on its use.

I would make a plan to use it with in the next 6 months. If you haven't touched it, or find that it's just not your "cup of tea" then sell it at that time. There are plenty of cutting machines available to purchase should you change your mind in the future. I personally just don't see the point in keeping the machine if it just ultimately ends up taking space and collecting dust.

This is all great advice. I do have it in a convenient spot, right next to where I scrapbook. I just find it to be a huge hassle to pick a cartridge, set it up, and cut out letters/shapes & then put it all away; when there are so many fun Thicker fonts and pre-cut diecuts to work with. I think I'll give myself until the end of September-challenge myself to use it a least once in that time period, and if it's still collecting dust, then off to craigslist it goes. I'm all about simplifying my life-letting go of clutter and I feel like my scrap space has been the hardest area to let go of things.  Thanks for all of your responses! |

I can relate. I have a baby bug, E and a Silhouette Portrait. I really don't use any all that much, but I def love the ease of use of the Portrait and not having to mess with cartridges, etc.
I've wanted to sell my other ones but like Katie said, you barely get anything for it and the hassle of having to ship or whatever just doesn't seem worth it. I keep debating if its better to put a whole lot of items together or sell it in parts. Not sure.
If it's your only diecut tool, I would say hang onto it for now. But I totally get the feeling of wanting to purge!

Do you have kids? Are they still school age? I honestly use my Cricut more for the kids and school projects and DH and his volunteer activities than I do for scrapping.
It really comes in handy for making signs for the Scouts and home work and stuff like that.
