Closed, because the cats think it is a wonderland of unexplored fun, and I don't want them waking me up by "exploring" while I sleep.

Ha ! I thought this thread was about open cupboards like in your kitchen. I removed my cabinet doors and now have open shelving in my kitchen that I love. (Dusty or not). Closet door looks neater shut, but it doesn't bother me to sleep.

cats in the house = closed closet doors, except for if I'm actually getting something from the closet or putting something away. We have shut a cat in the closet before. Don't want to do it again! (Plus, I don't like the 'dark hole' if it WAS to stay open, lol.)
My craft room closet doors have been removed altogether; it makes for easier access and it's easier to see the stuff on the shelves. (we have closets with two sliding doors, so ordinarily only half of the closet is accessible at a time.)

There's an original Bozo the clown doll in there. The door stays firmly shut at night! I can handle it during the day as it's high up and I can't see it. At night though, I have visions of it coming to life. Bathroom door however, stays open.
