I had follow ups with my GP, who then sent me to an ENT because it continued. The ENT stopped short of diagnosing Meniere's Disease, but didn't rule it out. @devildog I have almost-diagnosed Meniere's too. I can mostly control the symptoms by making sure I drink enough water every day. If I don't the tinnitus gets louder and the stopped up feeling in my ear gets worse.I've had 4 bad cases of vertigo because I let myself get dehydrated before I knew what was going on with the Meniere's. So, just a thought for you to make sure that you're drinking enough (more than you want probably) every day and it could help with any symptoms you have. Thanks so much for the suggestion! I didn't mention upthread that I, too, get tinnitus and it can be absolutely maddening! Plus, I also get pressure build up in my ears. There are some days I'll pop them every 10 minutes throughout the day. scrapnatya Interesting about the artificial sweetener. The ENT did suggest I try to stay away from certain foods/ingredients (in addition to cutting down on sodium) like caffeine, chocolate (I can't remember what else at the moment). I wonder if artificial sweetener was one. maryland The first bout I had, when I ended up in the ER, I think I was laid up for about a week. When that passed, it was really hit or miss. Like someone else said, the biggest issue is there's no telling when it's going to hit. It just comes out of nowhere, and I might be dizzy for an hour, half a day, all day...no rhyme or reason to it. Another thing I remembered the ENT said was sometimes vertigo is brought on by an inner ear virus (vestibular something). Since viruses can take a long time to pass, he gave me some time in between follow-up visits. When a couple of months came and went, he ruled that out since so much time had passed.

I went through this a few years ago. My doctor at the time didn't have much in the way of a solution for me. I took it easy for a few weeks and it eventually abated.
Sorry this is happening to him! I wish I had some helpful suggestions.

Go on you tube. There is s link for an at home epley maneuver. He can try that. Usually helps me. First time went to an ent who did hearing test and maneuver in the office. He told me to do it at home next time.
