Why do manufacturer's have what looks like old tape marks on their paper? I have found a couple of sheets in my stash with this recently. And I was just looking on A Cherry On Top at some Crate Paper (Lovely Paper was the exact name) and on the back side you can see brown tape marks. On the papers I have here it is just one tape mark on the sheet and really looks out of place.

I don't know why but I actually like it. I think it is to make it look mixed media or vintage or altered. I have found I don't mind it, especially since I actually have some memorabilia with tape marks from where I used cello tape to adhere it in my scrapbooks.
I would say it's a design element.

What myboysnme said...it is to make it look distressed and vintage. AS if the paper had already been used, maybe even had a photo or ephemera taped to it previously. I like it too...seems to be a love or hate kind of thing for most people.

I guess I am on the hate side. Both my girlfriend and I thought it was an error in the paper run! We both had the same paper with the same tape marks. Ugh. Luckily it is only on one spot so I can cut around it.

Crate Paper does that all the time and I am not a fan of it, I usually crop it out because their paper is too pretty not to use. My layouts tend to be clean and bright, on the rare occasion I ink or distress I want to choose what I do that to myself.

Luckily it is only on one spot so I can cut around it. I get that. When I buy new paper, I kinda want it to LOOK like new paper. If I want to have tape on it, I will put it there. I think I would find a way to just cover up the tape mark with something else. It took me a long time to warm up--slightly--to distressing. I couldn't understand why anyone would want to take nice new paper and then rip it &/or crumple it up and make it all dirty looking! I have since come to love the torn edges effect (keeps me from stressing over if I cut or glued a matt crooked), and I ink edges if I get the urge or feel the page elements need definition. I [might] come to like the look of tape marks on my pages? Just not now. But I guess we wouldn't be very creative if we all loved the same things!

I'm definitely in the love it camp but I don't generally like my layouts to be too clean or bright, I like the slightly vintage aged look.

I love vintage, but I'm not a fan of the tape. I wish Crate Paper would leave it off their paper and just sell stickers that look like old tape. Seems like that would be a win/win for both camps.

It's a huge trend -- and I hate it. I feel like every paper manufacturer adds fake tape. It ruins an otherwise awesome piece of paper.

Not a fan of the old tape look either. I usually cut it off or try and cover it up

crate paper has literally been doing it for years and I'm so over it. luckily I scrap 8.5x11 and cut all my paper down, so I never really have to deal with it

Ohhhh! I love your idea QueSeraSera. I love the tape look and stickers would let me add more, or put it where I want it.

Like something has been set on the paper and it leaves a watermark for lack of a better word?
