Do you get emails every time they post? What is the advantage to following a Pinterest board, and is there any disadvantage?
Thanks!

Their pins come up on your main feed for you to choose to repin ... you won't get e-mails ...

If you follow someone's board their pins show up on your main page. You then have the options of pinning to one of your boards or not.

The more people/boards that you follow, the faster moving, more variety in your feed.

Ditto to what everyone above said.
I can't think of any disadvantages. Even if you get tired of their board or they start Pinning stuff you no longer care for, it's easy to unfollow -- click on the board name under the Pin, and then click "unfollow" at the top of the board. When you reload your feed, all of the Pins from that board will be gone.
Following people and looking at my home feed is really the only way I use Pinterest. I do occasionally search for something (especially recipes) but I never look at the popular/everything/category feeds. Just my home feed with the boards I'm following.

Following the right people is how your newsfeed is interesting to you. I usually hit the follow button but then I'll go to their list of boards and unfollow individual boards that I don't care for. That way I'm not scrolling past a ton of stuff that I'm not interested in!

I agree that I can't think of any disadvantages.
I follow people whose interests and tastes are similar to mine. You can choose to follow only one or some of a person's boards if you like rather than just following 'them'.
There are people who I follow, which includes all of their boards, and others where I follow just some of their boards, because they have some that do not interest me. That way I don't get pins of tattoos, children's crafts, t.v shows that I don't watch, etc. So my feed isn't full of things that I would just scroll past.
I can follow their photography board, or their fashion board, or crock pot recipes and just see their pins that will be more relevant for me.
It is interesting to see what other people are pinning, even if you don't want to repin everything. And there are often things that I'd never have seen otherwise except that someone I am following found it and pinned it.

I started off following people (and therefore all their boards), but learned quickly that with many of them I was happier just following the individual boards of theirs that I found interesting. Otherwise, you can easily get your feed clogged up with stuff that is just a nuisance to you.

I agree that it is best to follow individual boards. I really like seeing what other people find to pin
