I never thought I'd like the idea of art journalling but lately, it's appealing to me. I'm a former scrapbooker but I haven't done so in years. I do have olds stamps/inks, cardstock, water colour pencils, a newer watercolour field kit (small set). I do have a few mixed media journals THAT ARE BLANK LOL. How do I get started? Can you recommend 10 items to get started with art journalling? Great black/white pens? Spray inks? Beginner videos? I know nothing Thanks for helping a rookie.

Oh gosh, where to begin. Let me list my favorites first and most used items: 1. Use stuff you have (bubble wrap, security envelopes, old lids of all sizes, book paper, etc.). 2. Ranger Archival ink (it's waterproof) 3. Sigma micron pens (they are waterproof) 4. Golden gesso in white and black. Some gessos have a lot of tooth which I don't like. Golden does not. 5. Acrylic paints (to start just buy the cheap brands at Michael/Hobby Lobby, AC Moore). 6. Great scissors (I love Martha Stewart All Purpose scissors). 7. Stencils or make your own. 8. Waterbrush 9. Simply Simmons paint brushes 10. Stabilo All pencil 11. Vintage typewriter 12. Sewing machine 13. Makeup sponges 14. Glue stick Oh dear, I could go on and on but those are things I use on almost everything. I give lists of products used on my blog when I post my creations if you feel like looking there. There are a few posts without products because it wasn't necessary on those posts. Also, if you want a great class, Roben-Marie Smith's classes are amazing. She is the instructor I have taken most of my classes with over the past 6-7 years. She does have a few free things. Also check out Rae MIssigman, Alisa Burke, France Papillon, etc. You can google them or they are linked in the right sidebar of my blog. I'm on my iPad so it's harder for me to link them all here. Anyway, hope this helps. Find your style and follow people that you love. My style may not be your style. There are lots of styles out there.

Dyan Reavely with Ranger and Vicky Boutin with American Crafts have complete lines of art journaling supplies and tons of videos teaching how to use them. Patter has some lovely art journal pieces in the Gallery. She could give you some expert advice and a great supply list. ETA: I guess we were posting at the same time
