Ah yes, the Republican Senate continues it's outreach to women and people of color by shutting down a woman in the Senate trying to enter into the record something written by Coretta Scott King (that is absolutely pertinent to the confirmation hearing of Jeff Sessions). Their future opponents campaign ads continue to write themselves.

As an Oregonian, I am proud Merkley continued what Warren was silenced from reading.
As a woman, it makes me crazy she was punished and he was given the common courtesy to speak without interruption.
Looking for a good "Nevertheless, she persisted" t-shirt currently.

I can guess the words her male Republican colleagues used to describe her---I'm thinking they tossed around "shrill", "rude"...maybe a "nasty" or two.

Well instead of just letting Elizabeth finish her speech last night and move on now all the morning talk shows and social media outlets are all a buzzing with this story. Nice job there Mitch! Idiot!

Actually, next time I'm at the mall I might just have one made. We have one of those kiosks things that will put words on a teeshirt. My problem is that I want the shirt to be soft and sometimes they're not when you order from some random place. But I really want this teeshirt. And I want a button. I'm getting quite a collection of those.

That they silenced her is outrageous, but it gave her a far greater platform in the end. Backfired on them.
If they did, in fact, allow the male senator to read the letter, to applause, they're despicable.

I can't let this one go. It's boiling my blood. The very idea that she would be censured for speaking out during a debate about the candidates worthiness for a job where he would be required to uphold civil rights law because she brought up information pertinent to his ability to actually perform the job?? I can't even write complete sentences, I'm so mad.

Why was the male senator allowed to speak after they silenced the female senator? ^^^ THIS! I thought I heard they said something about the Coretta Scott King letter not being allowed into the record because of some reason, but if that's the case, then why was the male senator allowed to finish reading it? ...off to Google...
eta: okay, I heard right-- I heard that she was censured because they said she was impugning Sessions' character by the content of what she read. So why wasn't the male senator also impugning Sessions' character when HE read the letter?

I find it ironic that McConnell objects to the reading of the letter because it impugns a fellow Senator while his president has impugned the entire nation.
He did not object when one of his fellow Republican Senators called President Obama a liar while he was addressing a joint session of Congress in 2009.
Its truly amazing what honor the Republicans have developed now that they have a stooge in the WH.
