It’s remarkable that with N Korea threatening to test launch a ballistic missile and Putin ordering his Russian air force to prepare for war, our president is knee-deep in a “controversy” called Nordstrom.

That is because he can understand loss of business. Geopolitics is too complex.

Well thank God there's nothing important going on in the US/world so he has time to tweet about this crap. Maybe that's a good thing? People are being killed and all but maybe it's not as important to him. You know his daughter and her brand being so important. I have some of her shoes. They were damaged when I got them and would have cost too much to send back. #boycottivankatrumpshit

2. Ivanka's company actually said that Nordstrom is lying and did buy her spring line so Nordstrom responded with some vague tweets saying its only instore and not onlineIt was Belk,Inc that said that not Nordstrom @ annabella. It was never going to work being the President with so many business interests within the family. There was always going to be a conflict of interest. Tweeting about Nordstrom is a bit like blackmailing...........stock Ivanka's merchandise otherwise I'll attempt to ruin you by tweeting that you treated her badly. I fail to see how they treat her badly when the only action they took was a legitimate business decision. As a business woman she should know that if her products don't sell, she has to suck it up if retailers decide not to stock her merchandise due to the lack of sales.

The most distressing part of this (outside of the fact that he holds this office) is that none of the Republicans who said they didn't support him has the balls to stand up against him. I don't believe in following party lines when it comes at the expense of what is right. They are all afraid to cross him, which is pathetic. I want hem all gone. If they cant make checks and balances work the way it is supposed to, they don't need to be there.

If I was a grown (business)woman, I'd be ashamed that my daddy was making this his battle. Nordstrom's probably isn't the first. Probably won't be the last either. If the shoe was on the other foot, I'm sure Trump would cut ties versus stocking something that won't sell and take a financial hit. Business is about making money, not friends.

maybe they a just stock piling the offenses for now so when they go for impeachment, there is no question about the lines he has crossed. Nancy Pelosi said in an interview yesterday that they're waiting for him to do something impeachable. I'm not nearly educated enough on the law to know if he has or hasn't at this point, but I suspect they're waiting to build an iron-clad case. Impeachment won't do any good unless they can win the case. 'Impeachment' won't do any good unless you can also 'win' in the Senate for the 'conviction' and removal from office ( ask Bill Clinton ) Talking about conflicts of interest would Pence really get to break that Senate tie? ( if it were to happen )

I posted this on the "tweeter" thread: My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @nordstrom. She is a great person -- always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible! O.M.G that's just so wrong on so many levels, So he wants to do the wrong thing - but she pushes him to do the right thing? That implies he knows it's wrong and wants to do it anyway. Does he ever listen to her? Isn't she a bit old now to have daddy sticking up for her? Isn't this a conflict of interest? Is the President of the United States actually tweeting about his daughter's ability to make profits? I'll bet he didn't think twice or think it was so terrible when he made business decisions that cost other people money. It's seemingly smart to tweet that fighter jets are too expensive and that he'll cancel the contract, but if his daughter's products aren't selling at Nordstrom then it's "terrible" of them to cancel her contract with them?
I could probably go on but I'll stop there.
Oh, I forgot the main one, isn't he always banging on about Made in America...when all her products are made in China?

annabella, you could be right. This would be a pretty high-profile and possibly lucrative deal for her brand. Even if Ivanka feels that way, it's business. Nordstrom's can choose what to stock and what to drop. MSNBC's coverage is that they're honouring their spring orders but have exercised their right to not buy her brand for the fall/winter. That's not being unfair. Unfair would be trying to weasel out of paying and selling items previously ordered. No designer can assume that a retailer will always carry their line. In a free market, no one should have to lose money just to keep the first daughter happy.

Really, if Ivanka has a shred of common decency she should be MORTIFIED by this, and shut it down. Common decency doesn't seem to be a strong Trump family trait, but she seems marginally better than the rest of them. Her company should be a success or a failure on its own merits, and should most definitely not be propped up by the Office of the President. Ridiculous.

It's like doing what is right has gone out the window in the interest of political gain. It can't last, of course, but I'm not confident that we can ever vote in a politician with a good moral compass who will stand by what is best for America.
I don't think anyone (except Kellyanne) can argue that what's going on now is "best".

I am scared for our country.
But I have also heard that Ivanka knew about Nordstrom dropping her line a month ago. She is a business person and should understand that if things are not selling that they won't continue to order/stock. And she is a "big" girl, and can fight her own battles - daddy doesn't need to do them for her.

Why would they... their stock was up today! Any really smart business man with an approval rating on a downhill course should have seen that coming. I see more shopping at Nordstrom in my future... not so much because I think they were sending a message, but because it will eat at him to see their profits go up after his action.

I can't stand all this talk about Nordstrom's stock going down today. It went down a few cents! That's normal in a day. I was just looking at Nordstrom for some dresses for my vacation, and I don't know if it's because it's off season, but all I saw was a sea of ugly.

Or resign to avoid it. Need a few more lawsuits first.

If they cant make checks and balances work the way it is supposed to, they don't need to be there. Exactly! (bolded) During the election it gave me hope when some spoke out against him. Then he got elected. Paul Ryan bothered me the most (cheesehead here). I was proud of him for speaking out. Flash to day or so after election and I see him next to Trump and he has this stupid joker-like grin on his face and is all giddy. Because the Republicans have "all the power" and he was like a kid in a frickin' candy store. The fact that he didn't approve of Trump no longer mattered. Gross. In that instant I lost a bunch of respect for him. And I am neither Democrat or Republican and would have felt the same if rolls were reversed. I don't get standing by someone who you clearly don't approve of just to get your way. I guess no political life for me.

As I've been commenting on all stories like this "CROOKED TRUMP. LOCK HIM UP!" 1. I can't believe he is tweeting as President about his daughter's business (that she gave up) 2. Ivanka's company actually said that Nordstrom is lying and did buy her spring line so Nordstrom responded with some vague tweets saying its only instore and not online 3. This news story is so shocking and disappointing and yes we all need to start saying crooked trump It wouldn't surprise me if they had already committed to her Spring line - I'm sure they had to do that late fall or early winter. But that doesn't mean they have to commit to more. Plus they could move the product to their Nordstrom Rack discount stores.

Nordstrom stock shrugs off Trump's tweet attack, showing he's become a paper tiger "But there’s no public policy aspect to whether Nordstrom continues to carry Ivanka’s merchandise, only the question of how much lucre flows into the Trump family’s pocket... ..it’s very unusual for a president to settle personal scores with a corporation using his bully pulpit. But the Nordstrom tweet appears to have eradicated the line between the public interest and Trump’s interest. That’s why it was termed “outrageous” in a tweet by Norm Eisen, a former chief ethics officer for the Obama White House and the co-founder of the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. Trump not only issued the tweet from his personal account, but retweeted it on his official @potus account. " www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-hiltzik-nordstrom-20170208-story.htmlNordstrom, like any other for-profit company, is going to go where the money leads it. Vote with your wallets. The more you pour your money into companies that Trump threatens, the less those companies will care about him and his tweets and his dictatorial tendencies.

He has degraded the office of President to a level I never thought to see. It is now open to any crass, loud-mouthed, thin-skinned, vindictive, petty, blowhard narcissist in the country. I have never been more ashamed of our government Every day it's a new event that makes us wonder -- how can this happen??? ITA!

Again I say, when you lie with dogs, you get fleas. Sorry to Ivanka but when you didn't/don't denounce the horrible things your father has said/done, you get to live with the consequences of that. I don't have an ounce of sympathy for her.
I wish I could afford to shop at Nordstrom more often!

According to the fake presidents daily schedule, the tweet was created 20 minutes into his daily intelligence briefing! This country is fucking doomed! Am I remembering correctly that he is getting the briefings from people he chose? I would love to hear what these briefings actually include. Do they include info about his businesses or what as happening in the "press" rather than CIA briefings, as is more typical in the past?

They are online too at nordstromrack.com We have more nordstrom rack stores where I live than regular nordstrom stores. The rack I believe gets the returns/out of season and some new stock too. The prices are better than lot of regular stores.

Just an FYI for anyone who doesn't have a Nordstrom nearby... they do have free shipping and free returns on everything (no minimum) AND they price match (unlike places like zappos that will not because of free shipping). I have been able to take advantage on a cosmetics sale and for some designer sunglasses. Got the same great deal from a company with a stellar customer service record. Not going to replace Target for me... but for some purchases they will be my preferrred place to shop.
