I have a buyers revenge situation. DH bought a new blue ray player for $350 despite the fact we have had a PS4 since Xmas 15 that does the same thing. So, DH, challenge accepted. I have a cricut create. Does not do 12x12. I have an old version of either SCAL or MTC that still allegedly works with it as I never upgraded the firmware. *IF* I were to invest in an new machine - and it doesn't have to be new, because I am slightly more frugal than dh - should I get an older expression or a cameo ? I do print planner stickers and cut from hand. I have about 15 cartridges for the bug. I don't NEED it. I know I don't. But I was looking at a new cartridge and was thinking that for the $$ I could buy images and weld my words and do whatever magical things the cameo does. Talk me out of this.....

I would go with a Silhouette if I were looking for a machine today - it's more versatile, I think - I love my Cricut Expression (and have SCAL) but I only bought it because at the time, it was the more frugal option (Cricut plus SCAL was cheaper than a Silhouette but that was right before the lawsuit. I've honestly NEVER used the cartridges I have...I've only ever used it with SCAL so...

Agree totally about the Cameo. My cricut create that I used with SCAL finally died last year and I replaced it with the Cameo. Even though I don't actually scrap 12x12 (I do 9x12) I love the ability to cut a full 12x12 sheet. I now cut envelopes for cards, gift bags etc which I could never fit on the 6x12 mat. The Cameo is fantastic - can't speak highly enough about it. Print and cut (no more hand cutting), cut around stamped images using the Pixscan mat, switch out the blade and use sketch pens etc etc. I would sell the cartridges and invest in a Cameo. I don't think you'll regret it SaveSave

Cameo. I still have my Cricut Create and use it, but much less than the Cameo, and won't replace it when it dies.
I LOVE my Cameo.

No you don't NEED it, but he didn't either. I am very frugal also but I would definitely upgrade to a Cameo! It's awesome, so much better than the Cricut, imo, and this is a great time to get it guilt free. Go for it!!!

Since you do a lot of print and cut, I'd get the Cameo. I believe the Cricut only does print and cut at 300 dpi while the Silhouette does it at 600 dpi. Also, you can print on a bigger area and then cut it with the Silhouette. I would suggest going on Youtube and watching comparison videos from Ken's Kreations about the machines, he has a lot of great info. The Cricut (at least the Explore) does cut thicker materials than the Cameo but at least for me, that's not really what I need it for so I prefer the Cameo. Also, the software for the Cricut is apparently not great and is completely cloud based so you always have to be connected to the internet for it.

I just want to say how much I love the concept of "buyers revenge". Too bad that I'm always the one buying!

I never felt more free to buy scrap stuff than when my husband bought a boat. The kind you can sleep in. And have 12 people on. Ha! I love my Silhouette, and I have several machines.

LoL...I'd get the Cameo, too. If you want to be frugal, get the 2 instead of the 3, or wait for them to have another bundle sale. I don't know how often they do the bundle sales, but their Black Friday sale is always excellent. (Can't see you waiting that long, though!) Last year if you got the Cameo, you also got a mint stamp maker, designer edition software, and some other stuff free with it.

If I could, I would go for the Cameo.I started out with an original Silhouette and now I have a Portrait and love it. Due to my budget I couldn't justify the price of the Cameo vs. the Portrait, because I really really wanted that 12x12 size, but if you can go for it I certainly would.

I have a very old Craft Robo (that alone gives you an idea how old!) that has recently started stop-start cutting, often many times in one design, as well as becoming increasingly noisy. Thanks to this thread, I looked on youtube at Cameos, and have just about sold myself on a Cameo 3. DH was home as the old Robo was misbehaving last night, and when I hinted at maybe it being time for an upgrade, all he said was 'does it use the same templates or whatever as this one' (I guess he was thinking of my old die-cut machines) - when I assured him it used the same downloaded designs, he didn't say no, so I'm taking that as a yes! There's a Craft Fair here next weekend, and I know at least on Silhouette vendor will be there, so I might just pop along and see what sort of Show Special they are offering. You are all such horrid enablers!
