I've not watched it yet, but someone recommended The Bletchley Circle to me. It's about a group of women who cracked Nazi codes during WWII reuniting after the war to solve a serial killer case.

I just watched season 1 of Last Tango in Halifax, it's a drama/comedy of a senior couple who reunite after 50 years and decide to marry.

Bletchley Circle is very good and I hated when Bomb Girls was over. I don't care for Texas or Football but I'm watching Friday Night Lights right now and I like it. One of my favorites is The Grand, about a hotel and all the guests. Luther is pretty good too if you like police/detective series.

Not with the mostly female cast, but for time period: Inspector George Gently, Heartbeat, Foyle's War, Endeavour, or Father Brown...
Rosemary and Thyme is about a female gardener and a retired policewoman who restore old gardens and solve the local murder...
Inspector Lewis or Midsomer Murders are good too, but they're basically modern day and the two main detectives in each are males...

I'm not sure if it's on Netflix, but HomeFront was a great TV series that lasted a couple of seasons. It was on in the early 90's but is about life at home in the US during WWII. We enjoyed it very much.

Senior moment here... can't remember if this was Netflix or Amazon Prime, but I really enjoyed Monarch of the Glen. It's pretty wholesome, not quite a drama, not really a comedy, just a nice mix of both. Loved the characters so much and it's several seasons long.

Thank you for all these suggestions! I am about to be finished with True Blood and needed something else. Since I loved both the series in the OP, I will certainly be checking out some of these.

Landgirls is excellent (set during WW2).
Bless me Father is very funny - set in the early 50s. It's an older show (70s maybe)

Loved Monarch of the Glen but binge watch it because it comes and goes on Netflix.
Doc Marten is my favorite. LOVE, Love him and I think there is a new season 7 coming in 2015.
Mrs. Brown. Not for the pearl clutches. Only a few episodes but hilarious. Not on Netflix but you should be able to find it online.
The Paradise - there is a new season starting soon

How many seasons of The Grand are there? There is only one season of The Grand but they ended it wonderfully. I loved the ending and hate that there aren't more seasons.

Love Call the Midwife. It takes place in London in the late 1950's and is about a group of nuns and midwives who tend to mostly the poor of the area. It may not be for everyone because of the conditions the people must endure. It will be on again this year but without the main character, Jenny. She will be missed.

Mrs. Brown (think they call it Mrs. Brown's Boy here), is funny - but definitely not for pearl clutchers...
The woman who plays Chumy in Call The Midwife has her own show - a half hour sitcom, but I'm drawing a blank on the name... It's funny, modern day, and not as risqué as Mrs. Brown...

I thought of another great series, not specifically the WWII era, but a period series. It's called House of Eliott. It's 3 seasons on DVD, through Netflix, but not available through streaming. At least not yet.
If you love the 20's and specifically 20's haute couture fashion, get this now. It's fantastic! And it has a strong female theme which is lovely too.

Thanks for the suggestions! I started watching the Rosemary & Thyme series last night. I had to force myself to go to bed!
I recommend the Miss. Fischer's Murder Mysteries. They are set in Australia in the late 20's. I have enjoyed them. One of our PBS stations is showing them, but they are also available on Netflix.
