Would you go? Would you take your kids? I bought tickets last night but I'm not sure if I'll be in town yet.
I know nothing about him but can always sell the tickets if necessary. My 16 year old is doing to go.
Do I need to find someone more hip to take him?

I doubt he has a lot of fans on this forum Would I go? If he was down the street, sure. If I had to drive to Philly or Camden, no.

Never heard of the guy. I wouldn't want to go to a rap concert and I doubt my kid would want me to go with him. Not that they like rap.
sounds like hell to me.

I wouldn't go to a concert (or let my kid go) when I wasn't familiar with the artist at all.
If you want to take your 16 year-old - I would listen to some of his music first to determine if it is/isn't the kind of music that I would want him listening to. If you approve of the music, then take him (since you've already bought the tickets) but if not, then sell the tickets.

I wouldn't go to a rap concert if it was in my back garden!

My 16 year old DD loves him.
Not sure I'd want to go (cause I'm old and that's not my thing), but I'd let her go.
Seeing him on the Grammy's, I thought he seemed intelligent and I liked how he spoke and I wouldn't have a problem with her seeing him.

He played as part of Bluesfest here last summer. He was on a smaller stage in between 2 larger shows we were waiting to see. I am not a rap fan in the least but he wasn't bad. Both kids 12 and 16 liked him and I think Ds now 13 has bought some of his music.
If you have already bought the tickets go you might be pleasantly surprised.

In an interview I saw with him, he seemed really positive and I liked that.

Tickets went on sale last night for his concert in NC. I would love to go but I have no one here to go with. I would be fine with a 16 year old going. He is really talented and I admire what he is doing with his life.

Im familiar with his music, as familiar as I want to be with any rapper really. I doubt many members here are fans, but its likely their kids are.
Concert culture can be different than what is presented on The radio, there are a ton of artists id let my kids listen to but would instantly veto them attending the live show.
I dont really tell him what he can and can't listen to or read, hes two years from being a legal adult and is capable of being responsible for those choices. I tend to listen to music in different places/genres all day everyday so im familiar with most but any rap concert is right above a root canal for me personally. If im in town ill likely take him, the experience and time with him is more valuable than my eardrums. We may also consider letting him take friends and waiting at a local restaurant/pub for them afterwards. Their driving experience isnt enough to navigate the city and concert traffic.
Hoping someone has experience to share about the live side.

Seeing him live but as part of a bigger festival I can't really say how his show with just him would be. He was articulate not much swearing, very lively. I can say there was a lot less pot smoking at his then there was at Snoop Dogg, if that helps at all

My son wants to go and he is 19 so he could go on his own. He is not going though due to the 5 hour drive and cost of the concert and camping. If you already got tickets I would go and enjoy the people watching.
I have listened to a few of his songs and they are okay. I still think late 80's early 90's rap is still the best out there.

Every live show will be different. Crowd, city, day of the week, his mood, concert goers mood etc. will all change the "feel". Do the lyrics reasonate with you or your boys? That's the question I'd ask myself before attending a live show I am unsure about.

Oh, there is definitely no way he wants us anywhere near him. We'll be sitting two rows back, awkwardly tapping our toes and pretending like we don't know them.
I would be a nervous wreck sending him into a gospel choir without me nearby in case things go down. I'm googling some lyrics, J listens to his music all the time, but I try to turn it out and can't really understand much of what he says anyway.
This post and thinking this through are giving me a hard core reality check of how old i've really gotten! lol.
Less weed than snoop is a plus for sure! ha

I only heard about him at the Grammys so I went on itunes to find his stuff and found nothing. The next day on E!Tonight they were saying how he chose to only release his music on some other venue. I just thought why would a new person do that? I'm not signing up for an account anywhere else. Taylor Swift can take a stand against the establishment, but if you're new on the scene, I wonder if he's losing a lot of potential fans who might buy his music? Or maybe younger people are more hip to these things than me? lol I really wanted to know who the white guy with long hair was? They always went on stage together, are they part of the rap group together?

Apparently he doesn't sell his music retail (although it looks like his latest - Coloring Book - is on Apple Music). You can listen to all of it on SoundCloud.
