Apparently Pudzer stepped down as labor secretary nominee. Anyone want to venture a guess why? I'm not complaining (though I don't hold much faith that his replacement will be any more appropriate for the job either), but I'm really interested to know why he's stepping down, was he asked to? Is he afraid he won't be confirmed thus causing a "loss" to the "winning" president? Is he afraid that his businesses will lose money should people "grab your wallet" and stop eating at his burger joints?

He didn't have the votes to be confirmed. People generally don't want to proceed forward knowing they will be voted down.

because who in their right minds would want to answer to Trump? LOL! You make a valid point there, Guess I wasn't giving him enough credit as being in his "right mind" in the first place.

They didn't vote, but he knew the votes weren't going to be there. Exactly. The Republicans had counted votes (and maybe asked Manchin what he was up to) and knew he wasn't going to have enough. So they notified the administration and he withdrew. My understanding is that there were four R's who said they wouldn't vote to confirm.

Labor hated him, but DeVos certainly showed that a large part of the group you're supposed to be working with hating, you doesn't seem to matter. When the tape of his ex-wife on Oprah discussing spousal abuse popped up - he was toast. He probably could have overcome the the nanny problem - seems that other Cabinet nominees since Geitner haven't been forced out over undocumented help. Apparently there are enough Senators who dislike wife beaters - or at least ones where the media can play video about them. ETA or I could have just been succinct like pudgygroundhog

I just read that a major concern among Republicans was: WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump's nominee for labor secretary abruptly withdrew his nomination Wednesday after Senate Republicans balked at supporting him, in part over taxes he belatedly paid on a former housekeeper not authorized to work in the United States.Apparently he did pay the taxes, but not until Trump nominated him, and the taxes were unpaid for five years after he fired her. With their stance on illegal immigration, it would be kind of foolish to vote him in.

I thought it had to do with his undocumented housekeeper. I hadn't read anything about him being a wife beater. I figured he was done after that came out.

Dude's sitting at home with his wife, feet propped up, saying "Whew! That was a close one!"

I guaran-damn-tee you it had nothing to do with domestic abuse. There is not a single Republican senator who would consider that a real issue.

I saw in the news a few days ago that Oprah was handing over the tape from the show (which apparently was hard to source since it was old). Even if Oprah wasn't directly involved, I'm sure nobody wanted to be seen as on the wrong side of Oprah, lol.

I think the domestic abuse thing stuck in my mind because of Oprah. Given the problems with the some of the other appointees, I'm kind of surprised this guy was brought down by these two things.

Let's just say I seriously doubt that the party who put an accused wife rapist in the White House would have too much concern about an accused wife beater as Labor Secretary. But I will concede that I can't read the minds of all the Republican senators.
