Dang. I teach in rural MN, and I keep thinking I'm going to see Russian paratroopers dropping in the fields around us any day now. I thought that movie was complete fiction and a little out there, but I'm starting to think it was prophetic!

I posted that I was having flashes of Red Dawn on a thread a few weeks ago.

I remember having a school girl crush on half the cast, but at the time, half thought it could actually happen.
I'm too old for that kind of baloney now though!

There was a remake?! I loved the original (at the time, it was me - a young mom - and all the teenage boys with war fantasies).
So far I have not reached the fear-of-Red-Dawn stage. Yet.

The new on is from 2012 with Chris Helmsworth and Josh Hutcherson. Plot: econmic crisis in Europe, weakened NATO, increasing deployment of US troops abroad, increasing cooperation between an increasingly militant North Korea and ultranationalist-controlled Russia. North Korea invades. Set in Washington state this time. ETA: I didn't realized how many times that summary I paired down used the word increasing. Someone needed a thesaurus.

No , but I'm sure our "armed militia" will protect us.

That movie scares the shit out of me. The scene where the paratroopers come down and the school teacher walks out...man!

I don't think that would happen here BUT the alarm bells should be ringing about even the mention of ground troops in Syria. No way in hell should we venture into that. We will go to war with Russia and frankly, I do not believe we would win. That pool is too murky and just WHO would we be fighting?

Regretting not being more of a prepper, with a shelter, armory, and several years' worth of rations.

I loved Patrick Swayze pretty passionately back in the day and those two are just way too young for me, but I want to see what they did with the story. It's still called Red Dawn, right?

One good thing is that with the sanctions, Russia is nearly broke. They don't have the money to invade us (yet).

There is not a doubt in my mind there would be those with money that would support Russia and other groups in that area to fight us. Trump has made us enemies aplenty now. Urban warfare is not advantageous for us. But I am sure there are many who want to see the Middle East turned to dust regardless of the innocent civilians.

My DH intentionally rented and played Red Dawn for me on our very first official date (in his dorm room when we were college sophomores).
Talk about romance. . . I'm surprised we had a 2nd date.
