I'm sure we all have something that is particularly scary to each of us, but to me, when he continually, incessantly, talks about how unfair the media is. He has called journalists “among the most dishonest human beings on earth," and “some of them are such lying, disgusting people. … (They’re) among the most dishonest groups of people I’ve ever met.’’ He said shortly after the election when meeting with the press, "we’re in a room of liars, the deceitful, dishonest media who got it all wrong,’” and he called CNN a “network of liars."
Just recently, he said about terrorism: "It's gotten to a point where it's not even being reported, and in many cases, the very, very dishonest press doesn't want to report it. They have their reasons and you understand that." His entire list was, of course, covered by the press.
Back last June, he said "“Based on the incredibly inaccurate coverage and reporting of the record setting Trump campaign, we are hereby revoking the press credentials of the phony and dishonest Washington Post." Today, he refused to answer any questions from media who are not considered very conservative.
He wants to change libel laws in the United States so that he can have an easier time suing news organizations. “One of the things I’m going to do if I win … I’m going to open up our libel laws so when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money.”
All I hear from him, in every speech he gives, after the beauty of whatever plan he has and telling us about his yuge intellect, is how dishonest the media is. This worries me SO MUCH. I really believe that the more you say something, the more people start to believe it, regardless of the truth. And in this day and age where there really is so much fake news, it's hard to tell what's true and what isn't. I try to get my news from places like the Washington Post and the NY Times and even then, I realize that they can make mistakes. But they are careful to retract if that happens and it doesn't happen a lot. But a President who harps on this is oh-so-scary to me.
I really believe that we are headed down a Nazi Germany path and I find each day, when good people do not speak up, scarier and scarier. There have to be more Republicans like Sen McCain who isn't afraid to go against Trump (maybe not a lot, but at least a little!). Why can't sane Republicans put a stop to this?!

Yep, when he said that "any negative news about me is/was fake news" or something to that effect. I'll google exact wording, but W.T.F.!!!!!!!
quoted tweet:
"Any negative polls are fake news, just like the CNN, ABC, NBC polls in the election. Sorry, people want border security and extreme vetting. "

Mine is 'trust me' He says it all the time and in my experience the people who say trust me are the ones you shouldn't trust a single bit.

OP, I totally agree with you, but pretty much every word out of his mouth is scary. However, I agree that without a free press, we are toast, and he's doing his damndest to destroy trust in the media.
His attacks on any court that disagrees with him are just as egregious.

That he loves the troops. Right before he sends them off on ill fated missions to distract from his crazy policies.

I agree with you 100%--his attacks on the press are deeply unsettling to me. I know the press hasn't been perfect, I get frustrated with all the infotainment and the focus on minutiae and the times when they have run with an incorrect story. But when he undermines the legitimate press, he is undermining the agreed-upon method we have to gauge reality, to hear facts and to act on them.
People have been talking about the novel 1984 a lot...I've read that book several times and every time Trump tries to make his own reality via tweet, and hammers over and over the idea that nothing is to be trusted beyond Fox and Friends, I think about 1984 and the environment where nothing was true, and the only reality was what Big Brother told you to think. This makes me feel very, very unsafe.

I have to agree. When a society cannot have Freedom of Press it is not a Democracy. President 45 thinks he can control the press and that will only work for a short while. He continues to insult the free press and he also continues to insult the Intelligence community that are currently protecting his ass and they wont put up with it for much longer.
How can one man be allowed to cause so much worry and concern to so many people? Putin scares Europe but with the US backing he was a little less formidable, now with #45 in charge the whole world is concerned. Europe may not have the backing of the US to block Putin, ISIL will be feeling lucky because #45 is an idiot and China will play the long game and then we all lose.
I have never been so involved in US and world politics as now. I enjoy a good laugh at the Cheeto trying to out shake another head of state, I laugh at his inability to form a proper sentence and the idea that as a President he is reading at the level of a 10 year old.
I do not, however, laugh that this man may allow Russia to continue to annex countries in Europe that it feels like taking over. I do not laugh when he signs EO about Immigration, Environment etc etc for the American people AND I CERTAINLY DON'T LAUGH WHEN FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS IS JEOPARDY.

It is quite frightening when you read some of the quotes and compare the reality of what Trump and his team is doing with the press to control the minds of the public. The saying of " the more you say it the more people will believe it" is quite true and falls right into their plan.

I totally agree. Freedom of speech and a free press are the very foundation of our democracy. It's ironic that Trump's popularity is in many ways the result of a misinformation campaign that began with the press -- Fox News and hate radio. They have complained about other media outlets non-stop, while spewing their own bullsh@t of the day for decades.
It is heartening to see the mainstream press rise to the challenge. They are calling the out the lies. Investigative journalism is in full swing, and insider information is flowing freely. We are seeing the best of how our freedom works, in the face of the very worst. No one can say it isn't interesting.

I'm not worried about his constant attacks on the media because I think he is only preaching to the choir and his choir is getting smaller all the time. There will always be those who think the 'liberal media' is out to get the Republicans. Yet there are far more people watching mainstream news sources than Fox News and other conservative sources. The only thing the mainstream news needs to do is tone it down a bit. The anchors are starting to look almost gleeful each day as they report all of Trumps' troubles. From their perspective, imagine how dull their broadcasts would be if Clinton had won. Instead they have a President who hands them scandals and screw ups every day. There's never a shortage of stories and angles.
Fox has its own issues right now with credibility given the sexual harassment that has been going on. That likely won't drive away loyal viewers but they aren't going to attract new ones, particularly women who didn't watch them before.
Trump blaming the media is just another example of Trump never, ever taking responsibility for anything. Nothing is ever his fault. He has done nothing to win over members of his own party in Washington. The support he got by default as the party's nominee and then President is waning. He still acts like a 5 year old. Actually my 5 year old grandson is more mature. He knows when he has done something wrong.
Trump's digging his own grave and he just can't see it. The one person who does see it though is Pence. I'm confident Pence is working to build his own coalition of Republicans who will help him when, not if, but when Trump screws up enough to get impeached.

I seem to have double posted. Yes Dotty, not only the Baltic States and the Scandinavian States. I agree. The whole of Europe is in danger and it's not from Muslims. I remember in the 70's sometimes not being able to sleep because I was worried about Russia, 40 years later I really did not think I would be in the same situation.

The comments Miller made about President being the ultimate authority not to be questioned (gross paraphrase) coupled with Trumps own comments about reporters scare me!!!
The comments about judicial system and intelligence community disturb me, but tgey have easier means to counter. Plus even the far right will eventually be persuaded to honor the system of checks and balances- maybe.

I saw an interesting snippet on the BBC yesterday about increasing military activity in the Arctic (both Russian and NATO). At the end they spoke to a few 'regular Joe' Norwegians who live near the Russian border. All said they were as or more scared by Trump than Putin. Given the risk Russia poses, that is kind of incredible yet also somehow not surprising. One compared the two as Putin being a "control maniac" and Trump an "uncontrollable maniac". Watch here

THIS scares me most If we are freezing then why in the hell is my winter in Michigan feeling more like spring right now?! We're supposed to be dealing with snow and freezing toes as they walk home from the bus stop, not getting ready to do a garden clean up this weekend! Hell, the winter fest in grand rapids for postponed and now cancelled due to unusually warm weather!

Isn't that the pope? :-) Trump scares the heck out of me. He is like the typical not too bright playground bully, who gets his own way because he is older than his little friends.
