It depends. Violence in movies for me is usually okay as long as it's between people. Adults only. Game of Thrones for instance has a lot of violence in it.
I'm absolutely not okay if it involves children or animals.

I love action movies. The more headshots and blood splatters the better. John Wick 2 was my Valentine's day movie. However, i don't like torture or rape scenes. I can't watch movies like Saw.

Enjoy them? No. Watch them as part of a bigger story? Yes. I'm currently watching SIX right now. It's intense but so is the war on terror.

I am okay with violence but not torture where there is cruel power over a person or animal who is defenseless. If it's a fair fight, I can tolerate it okay.

The fight scenes in movies get so long. I don't like watching violence, and the hand to hand fight scenes just drag on and on; enough already. Example: fight scenes in the Bourne movies. I like the parts where he uses his brains and training to figure things out and out smart them. I won't watch SVU, I do watch some Criminal Minds shows, but not many. I don't need to see all the ways evil people can hurt others. I witnessed a car/motorcycle accident last summer and it shocked me how it looked like a movie scene. Except the guy in this one didn't get up in the end.

Yup Dh is like that. He can watch the other stuff but if the animal dies in it NOPE! Same with my step dad if the animal gets hurt or dies he won't watch it either. People are different but if it's an animal forget it.. I have never read or watched Where the Red Fern Grows and I still haven't watched Eight Below Animals get me all the time. I even tear up in Homeward Bound when the older dog finally comes home (don't know why I can't remember his name all of a sudden)! When I taught first grade, I got to the part in Charlotte's Web where Charlotte dies and really got choked up. I skipped the actual part where she dies and I am sure there are a bunch of 35 year olds out there now that have no idea Charlotte actually died. Another book I read to my fifth graders was The Faithful Elephants. It is an awesome picture book that looks at the effects of war on animals. I made a kid read it every year because I could not get through it.

I can't watch a movie where the dog dies. Still pissed about how Somersby ended. I saw Somersby with my mum. At the end, we both turned to each other and said, "WTF was that?!?"

What kind of weirdo is going to say yes to this question?
Violence, I can deal with if it's a monster or hand-to-hand fight or an important part of the storyline. Or if it's Wolverine slashing the bad guys with his adamantium claws. Or Liam Neeson mowing everyone down while he saves his daughter.
But torture, NO. I also for some reason cannot handle violent WWII scenes, I guess I just think of them all as my grandpa and I can't take it. I tear up. Can't watch Saving Private Ryan, get choked up and teary-eyed during WWII documentaries. I don't enjoy recreations of other wars either, but none of them bother me as much as WWII.
I had to change the ID channel the other day because one of the actresses in the recreation was a little too into her role. Her screaming and begging was just awful. I like to know how they catch killers, not see recreations of people being stabbed and burned alive. Ugghh.

didn't read all the replies but no, this is my issue with Quinton Tarentino movies. just can't get past the violence, no matter how cool the story may be.

I think you're right about it being the music, I know he comes over that crest and I've seen the movie hundreds of times. But it still gets to me!!

No I don't. I don't understand how if they put it in a movie it's ok. But if it's happening down the road it's horrible. Why isn't it horrible to support it being shown in a movie. Isn't it then condoning violence as entertainment so why not in real life? (I'm sure someone is going to say I'm thinking it's ok to have violence in real life which I DO NOT, then you did not get what I'm saying ) I don't get wanting to watch it at all.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who was traumatized by that movie. That was almost 25 years ago, and I still remember walking out of that theater in tears!

I am fine with the Saw series for some reason but that is where I draw the line ... I'm more into psychological thrillers ... I'm a nerd that loves the Paranormal Activity series I have to say that I stay faaaaaaar away from any movie that might have an animal that dies ... just can't deal with that at all

There are two things I can't watch: torture and children in danger. Of course I am often caught unawares, and I hate that. If I know a movie or tv show is going to show torture, I will avoid it. The thing for me is that I can't forget the images. Even reading them in books. I can still recall new stories from decades ago about torture, and there's a book I read at least 25 years ago that had a torture scene in it, and I'd guess it still crosses my mind at least several times a month. So for me not exposing myself is taking care of my mental health. My husband doesn't understand it at all, even though we've been together 20 years, and he knows me as well as anyone.
I just wish I could forget unpleasant things.

No torture, no extreme violence, no Criminal Minds, Law & Order is too much now and honestly I would rather was something sexual before violence. I can't handle the nightmares and my family can't handle me having the nightmares. I wake everyone up screaming. Not happening.

I love action movies (and books) and with that often comes some fairly violent scenes. If a torture scene is appropriate within the context of the move I am okay. If it is a gratuitously violent scene thrown it just for the shock value I am not okay. (I am also enjoying SIX)

I can't watch a movie where the dog dies. Still pissed about how Somersby ended. I ended up in the aisle of the movie theater when the t-rex showed up in Jurassic Park. No, I do not watch torture. ETA: I do love a good haunted house though. Somehow being in the action is fun. Watching it is awful. Yup Dh is like that. He can watch the other stuff but if the animal dies in it NOPE! Same with my step dad if the animal gets hurt or dies he won't watch it either. People are different but if it's an animal forget it.. Old Yeller. I had to read the book in school when I was kid (who thought THAT was good idea?!?) Pretty much from that day forward, animals were totally off limits. I have never read or watched Where the Red Fern Grows and I still haven't watched Eight Below Animals get me all the time. I even tear up in Homeward Bound when the older dog finally comes home (don't know why I can't remember his name all of a sudden)! Shadow. We watched the 'dog dog' movie at least once a day for YEARS in my house. Both of them...Homeward Bound 1 and 2. ALL. THE. TIME. The only other movie acceptable to the boy was a compilation of Donald Duck movies.

On the other I grew up with big dogs (our first dog was a St. Bernard when I was 8 and I've had a German Shepherd, and my parents now own a Bernese Mountain Dog)-so big dogs don't scare me at all. I love them! So I knew as far as staging it they were using probably using recorded growling sounds (maybe?) or the dogs knew how to growl on command and probably smeared the actor with juicy smelling bacon juice or something like that so the dogs would be attracted to come up to the actor but not bite him.

I'm not a huge fan of torture & violence or anything, but if it works for the plot I can deal with it, as long as it is people. I can't deal with any kind of violence or even sadness with animals. I change the channel or mute the receiver any time there's a commercial for Humane Society or ASPCA. They kill me. I do give money to our local Humane Society and my Amazon Smile charity is the shelter that we adopted our dog from.

They wouldn't follow commands in scenes and they are above it all. I've only been owned by one cat, and he ruled the house.

I think torture scenes are disgusting putrescence. I do not watch them. It pains me the number of children who've been exposed to the gore and vile images thanks to absent or distracted or tired or emotionally immature parents.
