When we moved into this house 20 years ago, we were fortunate that the previous owners had done a kitchen renovation. Part of that was a double wall oven built into the wall, with bottom standard oven and top microwave/convection. Over time the microwave stopped working, then recently the convection part of the oven stopped working too. Now something snapped in the door hinge of the bottom oven itself. It wants to just drop open heavily. The first time this happened I ended up burning myself. It still works but I have to be very careful.
I need to replace the entire unit. If the choice was yours, would you go for two standard ovens or an oven plus microwave? I found one that has a microwave on top and on bottom you can choose to cook either conventionally or with convection. It's very nice if you're baking cookies to have both ovens going at once. But I would love to reclaim my counter space that the microwave currently uses.
What chance do you think I have of getting a nice proper fit? We had to replace the built in fridge a few years ago and there is a gap of an inch or so on either side.

I'm in the same boat, but with just one wall oven. Unfortunately, when I go to replace it I'll have to destroy the cabinet, as they don't make them that narrow anymore. <<sigh>> Have you measured the ovens yet? You can look on Home Depot or Ikea's website to get some ideas if they're the same size.
I'd go for double wall ovens. I don't mind the microwave on the counter but would love to have enough oven space to cook Thanksgiving dinner for the family. Plus, Christmas cookies can be made quickly!

I guess the question is - How often do you really use both ovens? If it is just for occasional cookies, then it's probably not worth it. We moved our microwave to above the stove and love the extra counter space

Ditto to measuring the existing cabinet and finding the standard sizes for whatever new unit you want.
If the cabinetry works, switch out the unit to the oven/micro unit and reclaim that valuable counter space! There is never enough kitchen counter space!
I currently have double wall ovens, but one is not reliable and is just taking up space. I've accepted my cookie making limits to one tray at a time and will not be replacing my double wall oven with a similar unit.

I think I'm going to have to have someone take it out of the wall to properly measure the space. But it looks like it's only 24 inches wide.

I'm going to be lucky to find anything to fit in that space. 😔 It appears that today's ovens are also longer than what I currently have. I'll have to leave it for another day and ask bil to come take out the oven and measure.

The ones we looked at had a top that was both convection and microwave and what we would get as right now we have the oven/microwave combination with no space for a microwave anywhere else.

We were just window shopping wall ovens last night. Our duel/side-by-side wall ovens from the 60s (yes, you read that right) are dying slow painful deaths (one is barely a warming oven, the other is being quirky). The problem is that the width hasn't changed much but they're about 4-6" shorter now than they were eons ago We don't have the funds for a full kitchen makeover so not sure what we're gonna do Anyhow, I'd go for whatever configuration fills in the hole the best.

Have you looked at Kitchen Aide? We had to replace our wall oven and the original was small. Kitchen Aide had one that fit and because of better insulation we gained an inch or two inside.
